Regarding Lily's latest video

(the one about Return to Ash, NomNomNami's latest release)

While watching this video, I noticed that Lily has omitted some crucial context regarding this game's development. Well, perhaps "omitted" isn't the right word.

"The entire game is about isolation and metaphorical death; in a dev diary, Nami says those themes were heavy on her mind when she wrote up the idea for it in 2022." - CD-Call, "Return to Ash: My Favourite Game of 2025", 20:44 - 20:54

Lily implies that Nami wrote this game as a response to the impact of Covid-19, which could make sense. However, the bulk of the pandemic's effects were felt throughout 2020 and 2021 - Not to downplay the still ongoing effects of Covid-19, but by 2022 the majority of the United States had returned (or was attempting to return to) some sense of normalcy.

So, what was Nami's inspiration? Well...

In January 2022, NomNomNami was accused of grooming and being romantically involved with a 14 year old in 2015, when she herself was 22. By April of 2022, Nami had acknowledged that the fallout of these accusations had cost her her job and likely a significant portion of her fanbase.

This game is inspired by the social isolation Nami experienced as a result of these allegations, allegations of her own predatory behaviour, coming to light.

Pretending that these allegations simply don't exist, as Lily is doing, is not only disingenuous, not only limiting her ability to critique Nami's work honestly, but is actively dangerous behavior. It runs the risk of giving unchecked influence to a person who has harmed minors before, a person who could then use that influence to harm minors again.

But then, Lily wouldn't know anything about that, would she?

I haven't finished the game yet, but I've never taken the joy. And I immediately started playing in pain mode. And I also want to brag that I passed Russian roulette without losing a single teammate. I just went to play Russian roulette after each save and rebooted if my teammate died.

If you were to ask me who my biggest inspiration was on the Internet, I would say it was Seedy Orchid.

Despite the massive amount of false accusations, and death threats thrown her way, she'd always stick it to the pathetic, neckbearded basement dwellers that constantly harass her on the daily.

And at one point in time, I'm ashamed to admit, I was one of the many people who once believed the allegations. I was a young, naive fool back then.

But then I actually sat down, and watched her kingdom hearts video, and I found she wasn't the illiterate, abusive freak people claimed she was.

She took no nonsense. She stood her ground, and told those assholes what needed to be said.

That's what I love about Seedy. She isn't afraid to speak her mind, and address the REAL issues in kingdom hearts, media, fandoms, etc.

She opened my eyes to how truly deplorable fandoms really are. I wouldn't be the person I now am if it wasn't for her.

Seedy, you changed the way I look at kingdom hearts, and how I view kingdom hearts so much.

Also, worth noting about Lily Orchard who's rebranded to Cd-Call :

She manipulates and low key abuses her wife by unpaying or straight up not paying Mikaila Turkleson for her artwork. Lily uses Mikaila as her free illustrator and has her do a dozen fully colored sketches that Lily uses in her monetized videos that she uses to MAKE MONEY and She DOES NOT PAY MIKAILA for them.

She made a joke once that she would give Mikaila an '' allowance '' of 200 dollars. But lately, she's made no mention of whether or not Mikaila is on board as a paid contributor for her channel and brand.

Why do you think Lily/CD is so against recommendations from her audience?

Lily absolutely despises getting recommendations from her audience, and while she’s given some surface-level explanations for this, the real reason runs deeper than just “I don’t like people telling me what to do.”

On the surface, she frames it as a boundary issue—that she doesn’t want people flooding her with recommendations because she doesn’t have time, isn’t interested, or doesn’t want to feel obligated. But if that were the case, she wouldn’t react with outright hostility whenever a suggestion comes up. There’s a clear level of disdain and resentment when people recommend things to her, far beyond the irritation of someone just being tired of hearing the same suggestion over and over.

The more likely reason? Control. Lily hates not being the one to dictate what media she engages with. She wants to frame herself as an expert—the one people listen to, the one who has the “right” opinions about things. But when someone suggests something to her, she’s no longer in control of the narrative. The person making the recommendation is, in a small way, guiding her experience, and that goes against everything she wants. She thrives on being the one who dictates taste, not the one who takes suggestions.

She also seems to view recommendations as people asserting superiority over her—as if someone suggesting something is inherently them saying, “I know something you don’t.” And Lily hates being seen as lesser or uninformed. That’s why her responses to recommendations aren’t just dismissive, but often aggressive and condescending. She can’t simply say, “No thanks.” Instead, she has to act as though the very suggestion is offensive or an attack on her personal taste.

It ties into her insecurity as well. If she does engage with something recommended to her and doesn’t like it, then she risks people pushing back against her opinion. And because she cannot handle dissent, it’s easier to just reject recommendations outright rather than engage, form an opinion, and risk people disagreeing with her.

Ultimately, it comes down to Lily’s deep-seated need for control—control over what she watches, control over her tastes, control over her audience’s perception of her, and control over the narrative she crafts. Taking recommendations from others, even passively, chips away at that control, and that’s something she simply refuses to tolerate.
