Akeredolu urged the people to recommit themselves to the unity and advancement of the country, expressing optimism that the nation will overcome its difficulties stronger and better. In a statement by his Chief Press Secretary, Richard Olatunde, the governor who congratulated the residents of the state on witnessing 2023, harped on the need for everyone to imbibe the spirit of gratitude to their creator. Ondo State, he said, had good reason to be grateful for God’s unfailing compassion and mercy, which had kept it and its residents alive through the difficulties of 2022. While soliciting support for the candidate of the All Progressives Congress, APC, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu at the polls in February, Akeredolu said the former Lagos State governor is capable of improving the country’s democracy tremendously. He emphasised that Tinubu will provide opportunities and as well make the country a shining beacon of hope and stability. According to him: “2023 is a very crucial year, especially in the life of our country. We must be deliberate in making the right choices. Our collective targets must showcase our respect for our diverse interests. “Let us embrace reason and truth. We must be unanimous in shunning cynicism and mistrust. Our chief objective must be competence in the choice of leadership. “As the 2023 general elections approach, let us make a conscious effort to deepen our democratic gains by electing a competent candidate as the next president.” [ad_2]

Fani-Kayode, a spokesperson for the Tinubu/Shettima campaign council, said Obi’s endorsement by Obasanjo is an exercise in futility. His statement was contained in a post via his verified Twitter handle. Recall that Obasanjo, in a New Year message to Nigerians, endorsed Obi for the 2023 election, citing a track record of ability and performance. While reacting to Obasanjo’s endorsement of Obi against his principal, Bola Ahmed Tinubu, the presidential candidate of the All Progressive Congress, APC, for the forthcoming presidential election, Fani-Kayode said it could not change the fact it is Tinubu’s time. He wrote, “OBJ remains a father to us all & I will always respect him. Despite that, I reserve the right to disagree with him when & where necessary. [ad_1] The All Progressives Congress, APC, presidential candidate, Bola Tinubu, has described former President Olusegun Obasanjo’s endorsement of his counterpart from the Labour Party, LP, Peter Obi, as worthless. Tinubu said Obasanjo lacked any political goodwill or leverage in Nigeria to make Obi win the presidential election. Speaking through his Director of Media and Publicity, Bayo Onanuga, Tinubu said the former president was a political paperweight. Tinubu, however, noted that the former president has the right to endorse any presidential candidate of his choice. Stressing that the former president was not a democrat anyone should associate with, Tinubu vowed not to lose any sleep over his endorsement of Obi. A statement by Onanuga reads partly: “We make bold to say that our party and candidate, Tinubu will not lose sleep over Obasanjo’s move, as Obasanjo is notorious for always opposing progressive political forces, as he did against MKO Abiola in 1993. “The endorsement is worthless because the former President does not possess any political goodwill or leverage anywhere in Nigeria to make anyone win a Councillorship election, let alone win a Presidential election. He is a political paperweight. “He is also not a democrat anyone should be proud to be associated with.” Over the weekend, the former president endorsed Obi in a letter addressing issues in the country. [ad_1] The All Progressives Congress, APC, presidential candidate, Bola Tinubu, says he pities his Labour Party, LP, counterpart, Peter Obi, following his endorsement by former President Olusegun Obasanjo. Tinubu said Obasanjo cannot win his polling unit; hence Obi is at risk for associating with the former president. Speaking through the Director of Media and Publicity of the APC Presidential Campaign Council, Mr Bayo Onanuga, Tinubu said nobody in Ogun State could rely on Obasanjo to become governor or councillor. The APC presidential candidate noted that the former president has never succeeded in making anybody become president in Nigeria. A statement by Onanuga reads: “From our records, President Obasanjo has not successfully made anyone win an election in Nigeria since then. “Not even in Ogun State can anyone rely on his support or endorsement to become a governor or councillor. “We pity Peter Obi as we are confident that Chief Obasanjo cannot win his polling unit and ward in Abeokuta for Obi in the coming Presidential election on 25 February 2023.” Tinubu said Obasanjo’s endorsement of Obi was not a “political currency” that the LP presidential candidate can spend in the country. He stressed that the former president was not “a political force” in Nigeria. The former Lagos State governor recounted how Obasanjo endorsed the Atiku Abubakar of the Peoples Democratic Party in 2019 against President Muhammadu Buhari. He, however, noted with his support, Buhari defeated Atiku by a wide margin. Tinubu vowed that history would repeat itself in February when he defeats Obi by a wide margin. [ad_2]

In a letter made available to NjenjeMediaNews, which also doubled as his new year message to Nigerians, former President Obasanjo disclosed his position on the 2023 presidential election and who he will be throwing his support to. The former President of Nigeria, Chief Olusegun Obasanjo has endorsed the presidential candidate Labour Party (LP), Peter Obi, and Datti Baba-Ahmed for the 2023 presidential election, NjenjeMediaNews reports. The former President described the past seven and a half years under the President Muhammadu Buhari-led All Progressives Congress (APC) government as stressful and eventful. He urged Nigerians to be cautious while electing a new leader Obasanjo stated that his choice of a preferred candidate was based on previous relationships with the major contestants for the 2023 presidential election. “We need selfless, courageous, honest, patriotic, in short, outstanding leadership with character and fear of God beyond what we have had in recent past. “None of the contestants is a saint but when one compares their character, antecedent, their understanding, knowledge, discipline and vitality that they can bring to bear and the great efforts required to stay focused on the job particularly looking at where the country is today and with the experience on the job that I personally had, Peter Obi as a mentee has an edge,” he noted. The ex-President challenged Nigerian youths to ignore divisive antics employed by politicians. He also noted that the job of a President was too vigorous for aged candidates. “The vigour, energy, agility, dynamism and outreach that the job of leadership of Nigeria requires at the very top may not be provided as a septuagenarian or older. I know that from personal experience. And it is glaring out of our current experiences. Otherwise, we will be fed with, ‘The President says,’ and we will neither see nor hear him directly as we should. “I challenge the youth to arise. Let nobody pull wool over your eyes to divide you and/or segregate you to make you underlings. Nigerian youth, wherever they come from, North or South, East or West, need education which is now denied to over 20 million children; Nigerian youth also need skills, empowerment, employment, reasonably good living conditions, welfare and well-being,” Obasanjo noted. He also pointed out that challenges plaguing the country, including poverty, unemployment and insurgency, resulted from actions of elected leaders. The letter from Chief Olusegun Obasanjo

The Speaker in a new year message by his Media Aide, Kunle Alabi asked Nigerians to strive to ensure that tested and quality politicians are voted for in this year’s general elections to herald a speedy recovery of the economy. Owoeye also stressed that residents and citizens must wait in hopes that all that was lost with the economic hardship of the previous year could be recouped through determination, hard work and perseverance. He reiterated that the nation would surmount its economic and security challenges as Nigeria is entering into a new phase of economic prosperity in the new year. “I encourage my good people of Osun and Nigerians to rise in hope and take their destiny in their hands as they step into the year 2023. That little contribution to the development of the country by all and sundry will go a long way in having a better Nigeria. “We must also take seriously the general elections this year, every hand must be on deck by ensuring that the election is free and fair from violence, and quality people who can move Osun and Nigeria to greater heights must be voted for. “When voting, our tribe, religion or personal interests should not come into play, we must vote for the best. No matter how hopeless a case may be, it can be changed with the right attitude, if we all put the country first in all we do, the change we all desire will happen in our lifetime.” [ad_2]

[ad_1] Sky Sports pundit, Alan Smith, has said Arsenal has a better squad than last season. The Gunners currently sit seven points clear at the top of the Premier League title, following their 4-2 win at Brighton on Saturday. Mikel Arteta’s men were in a good position to finish in the top four last campaign but they collapsed in the final few fixtures to end up fifth. “The wheels came off at the end of last season – the Spurs game and the Newcastle game away where they didn’t turn up, they ran out of gas, their squad was stretched to the limit. “Their squad is better this season in terms of strength in depth and they’re more mature. They’re still the youngest side in the Premier League with their average starting XI, but there’s that experience. “You would hope they’ve learnt from last season. They’re a year older and hopefully a year wiser,” Smith said. Arsenal welcomes Newcastle to the Emirates in their game, while Manchester City takes on Chelsea. [ad_2]
