he acknowledged it and said more info would come soon. That info still has not come. We got a post from Chelsea confirming the regionlock and updating the banner, but nothing else. Still don’t know when/how we will be able to watch it.

GEN:LOCK IS REGION LOCKED AND YOU SHOULD CARE

As mentioned in my last post, gen:lock is officially black listed from Japan. We are not allowed to watch it, and nothing has been said about the situation. The above image was only added today. Before it was just a black screen, leading JPN fans to piece the situation together enough to complain on reddit, where we finally got some confirmation from an RT site engineer. (Link here)

The main problem here is of course, we were never told. Gen:lock has been massively advertised and promoted as a FIRST exclusive show. So many JPN region fans with FIRST accounts excitedly logged on, only to find a blank screen. Not once in any of the advertisements was it said that it would be blocked in Japan. We had no idea. We still don't have any sort of official confirmation on why. All we want to know is when and how we will be able to watch the show.

Maybe they "forgot". Maybe they didn't think the JPN fanbase was big enough to complain, or don't speak English well enough to say anything. That isn't true. RT made this show and they are the ones who choose the distribution licenses. They chose to do this.

As far as I know, this is the first time a region has been excluded from watching a video on this site. If this is now the new normal, then Rooster Teeth has to start telling people. Not just sitting around and hoping no one will notice.

So why should you, those who don't like in Japan, care about this?

Well, you might be next. That sounds dramatic yes- but it is true. This is a major shift for the sight and they definitely won't implement this just for one show. As RT works with more outside licenses, such as with Day 5, we may see more shows removed or blocked from certain regions. Even shows that are marketed as FIRST exclusives, despite this, you will still be paying the same amount for a FIRST account with no additional programming. Licenses are tricky, and I'm not going to blame RT for deciding to make distribution deals.

But I will blame them for not telling anyone.

Luckily, if this starts happening you will at least know why your video doesn't play - you will have the screen above, which us JPN region fans did not have. But if you want to know ahead of time if something will be region locked, I recommend you start caring now. Because they didn't feel the need to tell us, and if no one complains they won't feel the need to tell you.

We aren't asking for them to break the distribution deal, rather to just tell us that it even exists. For the sake of transparency, they should be telling us that it will not be available in certain regions, and since RT owns the license, they should be providing updates on when and how the show will be available.

If you live anywhere that isn't in the US, you probably deal with this sort of annoyance all the time. My recommendation is to let them know now what you want out of this change, so that getting blindsided in the future doesn't happen to you. If you don't want to see the site split up by region then give them feedback. If you expect transparency give them feedback. More people need to do this, not just the JPN region fans.

As of now, I have received no official comment on anything. I will update accordingly when (if) RT ever decides to tell us what is going on.

Guess what, we didn’t either. RT never announced that it would be, JPN region fans were surprised when we logged into our FIRST accounts only to find the episode wouldn’t play. That’s right- the above notification didn’t even show up until today. 

We still haven’t heard anything from Rooster Teeth about gen:lock distribution in Japan. The region lock has not been acknowledged. All we want to know is how, and when we will be able to watch the show. We should have been informed ahead of time, not told that it would be a FIRST exclusive when it is actually just for non-asian countries.

It’s Valentine’s Day, so I figured now is a great time to talk about an upcoming project I’ve had in the works for a very long time but never quite knew how to execute.

Rather than talk about “romantic love”, this entire project is based around “self love” and “forgiveness”.

If you’ve known me for long enough, you know that I’ve struggled in a lot of ways and done/said things that I wholly regretted and apologized profusely for.  To which, if you haven’t seen me around for the past 8 years, I want to reiterate my apologies for all negative, hurtful, or derogatory actions and words.

The last 6 years, even more so, have been a journey for me.  Finally accepting myself for who I am, devoting my time to helping people, and attempting to find my place in the world.

In addition to that, I recently opened up in a Twitch streams talking about, specifically, my spiral into depression, self-loathing, and mistreatment of myself.  If you saw my post about World Mental Health day, you’ll remember my bouts with suicide in the past, ultimately ending with my final attempt in the beginning of 2013 which only failed due to “luck”.

Finally, I talked on Twitch about something that has plagued me since I was 10.  Since then, I’ve been consistently stalked and pursued by a violent abuser of mine.  To this very day they still actively try to contact me and find any information they can about my life.  I don’t know why they’ve continued this, but their actions over the last nearly 20 years have made me overprotective and paranoid.

So, how does this “upcoming project”, tie into all this?  Well, again, I talked about it on my streams, but it’s essentially this:

The last 8 years of my life have been that of reform, I’ve worked to show rather than say that I’ve done everything I can to be the person my childhood version of myself desperately wanted to be.

While I’ve continued to make mistakes and missteps along the way, I have pushed myself to never deteriorate and allow myself to be influenced into doing stupid and hateful things “because it’s funny”.

I’ve forgiven my abusers, though the apologies never came, and pushed on with my life best I could.

The one thing I’ve never been very good at, is forgiving myself for anything.  I live in a mental state of consistent self-blame and self-hatred.  So what I’m attempting to do with this project is opening up, talking to you, and having everyone help one another deal with trauma, apologizing, forgiving, and re-learning how to enjoy life.

The first episode will be dealing with my personal stories and issues, and every episode afterwards I will be going through the comments and suggestions from everyone and doing my best to bring their issues to light and have us, as a community, help them and everyone else through it.
