Hello, do you have any advice on being approachable in this roleplay? I was a member in the past and unfortunately could not complete the activity checks due to a lack of plots with the other members (and I did not want to keep turning in self-paras). It wasn't that I didn't talk to them or didn't message them, but I got very little to no response and it felt like I was just pulling all the weight. Soon I might have time to give this place a shot again and I'd like advice to be a better member.

Thank you so much for bringing this to our attention and we want to sincerely apologize about your previous experience in the roleplay. We understand how discouraging it can be when it feels like you're putting in effort but not getting much interaction in return. But we really appreciate you wanting to give us another chance as well. As for advice on being approachable, if you've done your part by posting plot calls and contributing to plot discussions, we feel it would be up to the other person to reciprocate that energy. However, it could also be a matter of members putting caps on their thread/plot counts or going on hiatus, resulting in slower responses or activity. If you feel that those who have reacted to your plot calls have not been as responsive, you are always welcome to initiate conversations in the group chats (or join in whenever topics are being discussed) or approach other members' DMs. We know that some of our writers won't mind people coming to them for plots and are always up for it!

With all that said, this concern is something we take seriously. We will raise it with the group and remind them to be more proactive with plotting and welcoming newcomers and old members alike so such situations can be avoided and improved. Despite Nocturne's dark themes, we want to foster a welcoming space for all writers where their OCs can thrive.

On the other hand, we are aware that a lot of our members are currently busy with this month's holidays so it also might take time for others to reply or get involved in too many plots/threads due to real-life commitments. So we kindly ask everyone to be patient and understanding while waiting for responses and not take these delays personally. Again, we'd like to thank you for approaching us with this concern and we're happy that you're considering joining us again. We hope that once you do, your experience will be much, much better!

Just an update about our roleplay, we've recently created a cheatsheet for the collective. We hope that this will help both existing members (especially newcomers) and interested applicants gauge the current ongoings within Nocturne and its characters.

If anyone is ever curious about what's canon or not and the developments that are happening for the muses, this cheatsheet serves as a summary of it!

Keep in mind that this list is a work-in-progress and will be ever-changing as muses continue to develop their storylines. Currently, not all characters have been included as some have been on hiatus or joined the group after we posted the form for cheatsheet submissions.

We'll keep updating the list as necessary as possible while we continue to collect submissions, add new muses to the list, or if there are any developments within the characters.

I wanted to vote on humans and scholars.

humans in general (whether that be regular, scholar, or forgemasters). i also.. would personally love to see more older muses, specifically with more muses like demons / vampires / forgemasters being 100-300 years old or more (or even just humans/scholars/lycans/etc who are 27+).

need more scholars with different elements so we can have the Avatar squad

HUMANS. forgemasters would be neat, and scholars too. though twisted demons with emotional connections to current muses would be fun too

can you describe the ways of speaking in the rp? i'm sure it's not thee's and thou's, but i was wondering if it was more purposefully proper with the given time period. also, can you pinpoint the exact year this rp takes place? i saw mentions of the 1800's, industrial era, and daysdeath beginning in 1802 specifically. does that mean the year is also 1802? thanks in advance. =]

To answer, we think the style of speech by the muses is quite appropriate for the period Nocturne is set. It's definitely a mix of formal and informal language. However, everyone's vocabulary and way of writing is different so we aren't really /that/ strict when it comes to how people want to write their muses and how the characters speak. As long as the dialogue isn't glaringly out of place, we allow everyone creative liberties. As for the exact year, Nocturne is currently in 1805. 1802 is when daysdeath began and three years have passed since then.

The answer is yes. You can make your muse as a demon who was brought back by a forgemaster. We don't have many demon muses currently but we would love to see more people bring them into the roleplay!

When it comes to the writers' activity levels in our collective, it's difficult to pinpoint since everyone's speed in replies, engagement, and activity hours vary a lot. Some writers prefer to discuss plots on a 1x1 basis so we can't exactly gauge how much engagement is being done in private while some tend to be more active in the group chats.

However, we did notice that activity overall decreased quite a bit compared to the previous weeks. But it's also the holiday season so some slowness was to be expected and we understand it's the busiest time of the year for some. Most of the writers are people with full-time jobs or are still studying and real life always comes first.

That said, we still see a pretty decent level of writing activity happening. Starters are posted throughout the week from both new and old members while we see threads being replied to every now and then. We hope we were able to satiate your curiosity with this answer and that you consider joining our group! Thank you again!

hello! i'm very interested in joining, but it's a little overwhelming upon first read. any tips for newcomers of themes like these? i'd hate to stick out like a sore thumb and ruin the vibe :( tips on etiquette, too, maybe? any help would be appreciated! thanks!

We understand that it can be quite a lot to take in when reading the lore and overall theme of the roleplay but we’re more than happy to help you out!

Some tips we can give is to try and immerse yourself in the base lore first. It serves as a brief history of the current themes in the roleplay and how things began. This could also help give ideas for your OC’s backstory. Afterward, you can slowly start diving into the other parts of the lore, like the settings, the bloodlines, the bestiary, and the regions. 

Feel free to ease into these sections and take your time reading so you won’t feel too overwhelmed with the amount of information. Though we do recommend reading the settings thoroughly so that you won’t miss any details like the period Nocturne is set. Once you’re done, you’ll potentially have more things to fill up your OC’s story!

Don’t be afraid to also ask us any questions any time if something seems confusing or you simply want to clarify certain things! 

If you’re a little lost with where your OC can fit, you can also give our wanted connections or coteries a peek and go from there. Many of our members are actively seeking connections or muses to fill up their factions! This can make it easier for you to develop connections with the existing members as well. We also have an epochs section where we post our plot drops, but you can check this part out much later. These are the group plots/arcs that happen within the collective. They also serve as events that everyone can participate in!

When it comes to etiquette, standard roleplay etiquette is usually observed. Being kind and respectful towards other writers is a must. Most players usually have their own OOC guidelines so it’s preferable to read those if you’re interested in writing with them. You’ll also know what to expect of them as a writer in terms of their activity levels.

Most importantly, don’t worry about sticking out like a sore thumb and we hope you don’t feel too pressured! We’ve all been a newcomer at some point and our DMs are always open for any concerns you may have. We’re here to make sure that you enjoy your experience in Nocturne as you write out your character’s storylines if you decide to join us. Our members are also usually very responsive in helping out other fellow writers as well so you can reach out to them if you’re comfortable!
