Here is my how to lose weight 101
I want to preface this by stating that the only knowledge of weight loss and nutrition I have is through my own experience, consulting with dietitians because of my own health issues and reading articles online.
With that out of the way, the thing you have to realise, is that height plays a role in how many calories you burn simply by being alive, because the bigger the organism - the more calories you need to survive. Same goes for weight, the heavier someone is, the more they need to eat to maintain their size. The only difference between the two is that you can lose weight but you canât shrink in height.
If you are short, your TDEE (total daily energy expenditure) will be lower. Iâm 5â5 and 83 kg so my basal metabolic rate is 1600 cals, if I were 5â0, it would be 1500.
Now, if you want to lose weight and keep it off, i suggest not starving and losing slowly. If you lose weight too quickly your metabolism will eventually slow down and youâll almost definitely gain back all the weight you lost and more. The second option for this is you keep st@rving till your body canât lose any more fat and it starts eating at your muscle, a.k.a. Your heart.
I know this disorder sucks, but the thing I like to keep in mind is that I want to be skinny, not dead.
1. The first thing you need to do is weigh yourself in the morning, without clothes, before eating and drinking water and after going to the bathroom,
2. You enter your height and weight into the TDEE calculator and look at your basal metabolic rate.
3. You take that number and you minus 200-300 from it. Thatâs your calorie limit.
* if you ever plateau after a while of losing weight at this deficit, it means that you reached a point where your current calorie intake became maintenance calories. Try lowering it by 100 and proceed.
4. You cut processed sugar & carbs. Fruits are fine, so is whole grain bread/pasta etc. but try to limit that to maybe one or two small portions per day.
5. You increase your protein intake. You body burns 20% of the calories you consume in protein by digesting it.
* to calculate how much protein you need to have per day, multiply your weight in kg by 0.8. If i do mine, i get 83*0.8 = 66.4 . I need 66 grams of protein per day. You can lower this number according to your weight once u start losing.
6. Start intermittent fasting if you can. Start with an 8 hour eating window but gradually reduce it to 4. This means that youâre basically fasting for 16-20 hours every single day. Itâs allows your body to depleate all the calories it gets from food and start eating at your fat for energy.
7. Drink black coffee or green tea in the mornings. Some say that diluted apple cider vingegar with water also helps. This will basically curb your appetite a bit.
8. Try your best to stand as often as possible. If you spend your life sitting all day, the amount of cals your body burns is obviously gonna be lower. You donât have much either way by being short so try to always be moving. Take the stairs, take a walk during your lunch break, walk in the mornings etc.
9. Try to get an active hobby. This is pretty self explanatory. If you like the gym, go to the gym. I hate the gym, so instead I like to walk as much as i can while listening to music, it makes me hapoy. You can play a sport, dance, cycle, literally anything except rotting in bed.
10. Water. IF is gonna SUCK in the beginning, youâre gonna want to snack like crazy, but most of the time your body is stressed, bored or thirsty. All of these are helped by water. Make routines to remember drinking water, like a glass after waking up and a glass after every meal.
11. Lastly, sleep. Your body burns A TON of calories when you sleep, so sleep as much as you can. You can even take naps throughout the day if you canât get a solid 8 hours of sleep at night.
Bonus tips: chewing gum is your new best friend, so are non-sugar sweeteners like stevia. Get a good cal counting app like lifesum or mfp. Consistency is better than intensity. You can do this!!!
