everything’s rose.

This is a weird one. I suppose it’s more about mood than anything else... I wanted to focus on the idea of songs/sounds that shouldn’t go together or that wouldn’t be considered to “fit” on a playlist but show that they can. And also the idea of going from different moods... the sweetness of the Ryan Beatty & Brockhampton songs to the switch to more tense sounds like clipping and Ty Segall. Anyway, it’s odd and eclectic and I really enjoy it and hope you might too. (I almost titled it kanye is blonde, so you can think of it that way if you want)

2019, SO FAR...
So, June is nearly over which means we’re halfway through the year & I wanted to one of those “, so far” posts but lists can get boring, so instead I’m just going to give some random thoughts...
🐕PUP! PUP, PUP, PUP! I wasn’t into this band before 2019 but as of now, Morbid Stuff is my most-listened-to album of 2019. It has been a long time since I got really into a rock album... I just really love this damn album.
🔥Weirdly, there are only a handful of rap albums I’ve listened to this year (released this year): Anderson .Paak, Injury Reserve, Kevin Abstract, Schoolboy Q, Zeelooperz, 2 Chainz, Lil Pump. I have to say the .Paak and Injury Reserve albums are my top contenders for best rap albums of 2019.
🔥 Racks On Racks by Lil Pump is a song I love & will also defend.
🔥 This is the first 2 Chainz album I have cared about in a while... Momma I Hit A Lick is just crazy; so weird and interesting and pushing genre boundaries in a way I did not expect from 2 Chainz (but, Pharrell & Kendrick, so).
🍿Devoted is the best pop album of 2019.
🍿NASA is probably my most listened, favorite pop song of 2019. Maybe Real Love.
😓 James Blake’s album is so good. I’ll Come Too has a lot of plays.
🔥Jailbreak The Tesla makes me feel like Injury Reserve is what Odd Future could have been if they had any kind of focus & had all matured together instead. Anyway, it’s just such a fucking good song.
🤘Why isn’t the FIDLAR album as good as it should have been considering how good Alcohol and Too Real were/are!?!?! t
🤘I expected to fall completely in love with the Vampire Weekend album, and I really like it, but was a bit underwhelmed after how strong the stuff we heard before the release. I think the big thing for me is I don’t really like all the Haim girl duets.
🤘Those Bon Iver songs tho 😍
😬I love the dumb videos (Gladiator Khaled is just too good) but the album is so so so bad. Holy Mountain is kind of the only thing worth more than 1 listen & it’s kind of just weird.
😍LIZZO😍
👀I Am Easy To Find is one of the highlights of the year (the song, though the album/film are great). How low Matt sings... it’s nuts (and sexy) but it’s just a perfectly beautiful sad song.
🔥other songs I love: Peach - Kevin Abstract Fine Mess - Interpol Cuz I Love You - Lizzo Song 32 - noname Not That I Want To - Starflyer 59 Gigolos Get Lonely Too - Prince
😓I haven’t listened to the new Bill Callahan album yet because I want to be in the right mood & have enough time to dedicate to it the 1st time but I anticipate that it will shoot to the top of my list when I do.
💽I want Yandhi already 😭😭😭

UP TOO LATE

I really like this one... it‘s for when you’re up too late & in your feelings. Like, you’re sad about a boy but maybe want to dance or just get really sad & cry. It started w/ Don’t Leave Me Lonely from the new Mark Ronson album (which is a killer song) which I heard and automatically thought of Not This Time by 2 Bears which took me to Ever Again because I’ve been into the new Robyn album and then it was a playlist.

sad boys + electric guitar.

this one was basically built around my love of the song Never Forever by Dead Soft and my complete and 100% ironic-free obsession w/ Ryan Adams’ 2003 album Rock N Roll (which is, apparently, a love letter to The Strokes and basically perfect from beginning to end). sometimes you just need some loud, unruly rock music by sappy emo boys *shrug emoji*

(spring)

new spring mix... some chill vibes. not gonna lie, the kind of laid back/lazy tone of this mix/songs is one of my favorites to put to put together. i tried to use really new songs because there were a hand full that fit this vibe that i was really into & i built it from those. anyway listen HERE

HALLOWEEN PARTY PLAYLIST!!!!
If it were up to me every playlist for any Halloween party would be The Monster Mash on repeat because that’s the best song. Others feel differently, so heree’s a playlist of spooky fun songs that I’ll be adding to for the rest of Oct.

If you are looking for creepy/spooky sounding music to listen to during October, I highly recommend John Maus.
He doesn’t sing about creepy/spooky things specifically but he also kind of sings about creepy/spooking things. And his sound evokes a horror movie vibe and always seems a little unhinged. Here’s a pretty good example:

But if you’re having a creepy October hang out you can put on his album I Want To Live! or Songs and it will be a perfect soundtrack.

I’m just going to put it out there that Noname is correct and Room 25 is the best rap album of 2018. We have a few more months... but yeah, she’s fucking brilliant and I love this album as much as Telefone.
I’m probably going to talk about this album/the songs on it more.

NEW MIX IS LIVE!
this one is just a bunch of punk rock songs i like... i enjoy mixing new stuff with the stuff that influenced it... connecting the dots between the Stooges and FIDLAR is interesting to me. more than anything, these songs just kind of fit the attitude of the very random title that popped into my head: COOPERATION IS FUTILE. don’t ask what it means, just rock out to the songs.
check it out at the link above or follow nomoretapes on Spotify!

DEATH TO FALSE EMO
i kind of want to make DTFE shirts with the above design. someday.
anyway, this was a really fun list to make... i’m a sucker for a good emo song and i want to make it very clear that there is little-to-no irony attached to this list. most of these songs are songs that i sing along to regularly. are some of them kind of cheesy? fuck yes! but aren’t we all at a point where we can just like things because we like them and not care if it’s cool? probably. i’m not going to put the song list here because there are 30something tracks so hit shuffle and sing along until your throat hurts and then cry about it.
yes, MCR is on here... don’t @ me
PS: maybe my favorite moment in ‘emo history’ is in the song Work by Jimmy Eat World when he has the audacity to sing “it’s not like me to wear it on my sleeve” because wearing emotions on your sleeve is the whole fucking point of JEW’s music.
PPS: none of Dashboard Confessional’s best songs are on spotify :(
