The Villanueva Legacy: Chapter Three, Part 9

Arya went on her second date with Stacie at a hotel in Willow Creek. It was bustling with energy when they grabbed a small table in the corner to chat about school and family.

Then this ghost sashayed through the hotel.

And tried to turn this into a double date - which Arya was just not having.

At least both couples went on to have a good time.

It ended up being a perfect date. If only Arya could have stayed in Stacie’s arms forever instead of coming home to tragedy.

As soon as I returned to the home lot, I got the notification.

Rufina moved to the hallway to see her wife one more time.

Before returning back to her bedroom.

And collapsing to the floor. The founder of our legacy perished.

Everyone upstairs rushed into the room just as Death arrived.

They were decidedly uninterested in the shock and cries of the Villanueva family. This was business as usual.

Everyone was utterly devastated.

Emilia had been downstairs working on homework when she heard all the commotion upstairs.

Arya was in a love bubble eating leftover pancakes.

Izumi brought Rufina’s headstone out into the garden.

Even though she had seen the signs that Rufina’s time was coming, she had still hoped that they could go out together.

Still, Rufina’s presence was etched deep into the house. Izumi found reminders of her everywhere.

Arya went into a distant phase. She withdrew from her family swallowed by the guilt of how happy she had felt that day. Had she known it would be Rufina’s last, she would have stayed home.

Romi took a day off from work to go visit family. Theodore was still a little too young to understand what happened to his grandmother.

Mauricio felt awful he hadn’t been there, but Izumi felt instantly lifted just by having him nearby.

And despite how low Romi felt when he first arrived.

His nephew’s presence reminded him that life goes on and there are plenty of little joys to cherish together.

The Villanueva Legacy: Chapter Three, Part 8

While her sister was off spending quality time with Stacie, Xochi celebrated her last birthday as a child.

Romi looks so upset that his girls are all growing up! You can’t fight the pending transition to the next generation, sir.

Xochi Villanueva is a Popularity sim and wants to be a Joke Star. She loves the outdoors and is materialistic. 

Wow, how did we end up here... well, Xochi burned out REALLY fast from her child prodigy days. Even though nobody pushed her to get perfect grades, she felt an internal pressure to perform expertly. Now she just wants to relax, be the life of the party, and enjoy the little luxuries her family has acquired. She promptly quits the Scouts and picks up a joke as a cashier.

She can still whoop your butt at chess, but she’ll do it with a proper manicure.

Xochi wasn’t the only one who grew up. He’s a charmer - just like his dad was.

He has such a sassy attitude. I can just imagine the sitcom laughter.

Rufina is so happy to see her sons - retirement permitted her much more time to pay regular visits.

And the new parents are both content with the modest life they’ve cultivated together. Sure their apartment could use some sprucing up, but they have each other - and family is important to all of them.

Cue laugh track.

Of course, Rufina had to sit down with a good book and a dramatic read. It’s a tradition for all Villanueva children. Theodore clung to her every word.

While her spouse reads in the other room, Izumi confides to Itsuki that Rufina’s health is wearing. Since both Romi and Mauricio are preoccupied with their own families, she wanted at least one of the kids to know.

They all head out to the Hijinks Festival together and join the same team.

Itsuki thanks Izumi for trusting him and the two grow even closer.

Romi sets off several fireworks and watches them disappear into the sky.

Everyone was being so affectionate and sweet - it was very touching! They all clearly love each other very much.

Izumi took Rufina to the Willow Creek spa for message and meditation.

Rufina felt right at home in the meditation center and made a note to come back more often whenever she needed to clear her head.

Emilia was disappointed that she was the last Scout in the family, but she wore her uniform with pride.

Rufina gave Itsuki all of her best advice for living a happy life. Even though he was a little annoyed about being told what to do, he let her talk his ear off and gave her a hug of appreciation.

And then had a big ice cream cone for dinner. Because that’s what adults do.

The Villanueva Legacy: Chapter Three, Part 7

Mauricio and Myra’s son, Theodore Villanueva, was born. Rufina and Izumi bolted over to their apartment to meet him.

Rufina was overcome with all that “new baby!!” giddiness and had to be shooed away by her daughter-in-law.

The Villanueva’s put together a modest ofrenda for their departed pets.

With Day of the Dead around the corner, Xochi woke up quite spooked thinking there were monsters under the bed. Despite being a knowledge-driven child, she couldn’t knock the superstitions deep-seated in her family’s history even if Rufina rarely spoke of them.

Yuki was pissed at being woken up so early so Romi chuckled and took care of it. What Xochi doesn’t know is just Febreeze won’t hurt her!

Since he was already up, he left a sugar skull offering for Selena.

And was hopeful that she had received his message.

After school, the girls headed to the park. While Xochi challenged a random old man to a game of chess, Emilia tried to make friends.

Arya, however, had one mission in mind when asking Stacie to come along.

And despite being rudely interrupted by a ghost walking right through them..

She somehow managed to tell her that she had a crush on her since they were kids. Stacie smiled and said they should see where it goes.

Izumi made herself...two drinks?? and chilled in the backyard while reminiscing about the dearly departed - pets, friends... she worried about who would be next to pass on.

Stacie stopped by wearing this amazing Day of the Dead suit.

Arya was surprised because she hadn’t invited Stacie, but she ran outside nonetheless and shoved her grandmother back indoors to have some privacy. 

And having grown up with grandparents that had lived such an epic romance, Arya decided to take a risk.

And give her heart to Stacie Caldron.

Stacie didn’t hesitate to be Arya’s girlfriend.

And then Arya proved to be like her grandparents in another way.

Awkwardly, Yuki stood by in approval (Romi slept through it.)

Stacie just walked out like a champ and introduced herself.

I think she’s a keeper.

The next day, the girls went to the library together. [Mainly because I am slowly replacing all of the default lots with the gorgeous builds from the gallery!]

Xochi finally got around to developing those emotion potions she had wanted to experiment with as a child genius.

Emilia chatted with Cameron Goth, a boy she had met at the park, about cartoons and movies and everything else that came to mind.

After her sisters went to their (ugh) Scout meeting, Arya snuck off to meet up with Stacie at the gym next door for their first date.

They flirted incessantly in the lobby and then headed to the spa upstairs.

By sheer coincidence, Mauricio was also at the gym taking a soak in a bath.

Which made it funny for me when Arya ended her date fooling around in the sauna with Stacie.

And then Stacie joined Mauricio for a yoga session after their date ended. Oh if only they knew..

When Arya came home, the rest of her family was watching scary movies in the living room together. But she didn’t feel like joining them and just went straight to her room to sleep.

The Villanueva Legacy: Chapter Three, Part 6

Arya Villanueva is gorgeous as a teenager - holy wow. I love that she has Rufina’s grey eyes and just subtle hints of her parents in her facial structure.

Aspiration: Romance - Soulmate (just like her grandma Izumi)

Traits: Kleptomaniac - Hates Children

*sighs* You’re lucky you’re so beautiful.

Not to be outshone by her older sister, Emilia also ages up into a child!

Emilia is a Social Butterfly and Self-Assured (what a great combo!)

Here are the three kids altogether. Look at that sneer on Arya’s face - she already thinks she’s too good to hang out with her sisters!

Arya’s bad experiences in elementary school make her not want to be around young kids anymore. Too much teasing, gossip, and bullying. She immediately quits the scouts.

Xochi has such fond memories of going to Granite Falls as a toddler that she has taken to the outdoors like her grandmother.

Emilia had such an amazing support system as a toddler that she grew up to be self-assured and craving large gatherings and social groups. Emilia joins the Scouts so she can meet more friends!

Izumi takes the kids to go visit with family. 

Arya vents her frustrations about being around ~children~ to Itsuki, but as the youngest of three... he just can’t relate!

Looks like Maya is the loser this time!

Arya ended up ditching her family to hang out with Stacie - one of the few friends she kept from elementary school. 

Emilia enjoying the last weeks of autumn.

They all gathered together to a watch a movie together and half of them left feeling utterly bored.

Arya spent more time with Stacie than she did with her family. She was thankful for any excuse to get out of the house and away from ~the children~

Soon, it was time for Izumi’s birthday. She invited her sons over, but wanted to share a moment alone with her wife.

Rufina belted out happy birthday at the top of her lungs as Izumi made a wish.

And I’m very happy to say that these two are just as cute and in love as they’ve always been.

Romi was happy to catch up with his older brother.

Itsuki hung out more with the kids than anybody else. Xochi thought him to be a little childish for her liking haha

Even though she still sneaks away to play with Puddles every now and then.

Izumi took a commemorative selfie with Rufina.

And swiped through her photo gallery to relive all of their favorite moments in life together.

And, naturally, they ended the evening playing video games on the couch together while everyone else slept.

The Villanueva Legacy: Chapter Three, Part 5

Rufina’s birthday was just the thing to lift everyone’s spirits. Romi returned from his melancholy mood to enjoy playtime with Emilia.

A rare sight of people sitting at the dining table and eating - how novel!

Arya had an AWFUL day at school. She came home very depressed and promptly hid in her parents closet and cried.

She couldn’t wait to be a big kid.

These lovebirds stuck around each other like glue.

Everyone took turns instructing Emilia, but Izumi enjoyed her shifts the most.

Our first spotting of Ghost Selena. She wandered around begging for food.

Project Day feels like a common trend across generations of this legacy. Both kids came home with science projects and they holed up in the living room with parents and grandparents in tow to get them finished.

Romi helped too! but he was distracted by the presence of his kitty.

Izumi took Emilia to the park to get out of the house whenever it emptied. 

They spent a lot of time bonding together and although she would never play favorites, she did enjoy pampering her youngest grandchild.

Izumi, Rufina, and Emilia paid a visit to Mauricio, Maya, and Itsuki. It turned out that Mauricio and Maya had big news - they were expecting!

Rufina was so happy to hear that she would have ANOTHER grandchild and then teased Itsuki when he would settle down.

Maya was very excited about becoming parents. Even though they still lived in a small apartment, she felt they could make it work.

Arya invited some friends over for a midnight water balloon fight. It was the night before her birthday and she wanted to go out big!

For the most part though, she was ready to no longer be a child.

The Villanueva Legacy: Chapter Three, Part 4

Hoping to lift everyone’s spirits, Yuki arranged a family play date at the park. All of the kids ran around expending their energy in ball pits and on monkey bars while the adults relaxed on the grass.

Emilia took to running around and playing like a fish to water.

She bravely climbed the highest peaks on her own.

I can practically hear the static electricity of the plastic against her calves.

Romi played chess with strangers.

Until little Emilia got too tuckered out and it began to rain.

With their parents at work on the weekends, Rufina carried on playing chess with Xochi.

While Izumi kept Emilia preoccupied with talking lessons.

The eldest kids both enrolled in the scouts. Arya wasn’t too into it, but she didn’t mind being able to get out of the house for a few hours. Xochi, however, loved being outside with their friends.

Arya is totally dunking on Xochi for liking the Scouts here. “When I’m grown up, I’m going to quit.” 

Soon the alert came in that it was Rufina’s birthday. Romi invited Mauricio and Itsuki over so the whole family could reunite for the festivities.

They grilled food, baked a gourmet chocolate cake, and busted out the party poppers to tease their mom about aging up.

Izumi was very excited to see how handsome her wife would look.

The Villanueva Legacy: Chapter Three, Part 3

Xochi is the first sim of the legacy to take to reading books and playing chess. Though logic-focused and contemplative, she’s not above distracting Izumi with what’s outside their window to swap her pieces around.

She’s a much more tender-hearted kid than her sister Arya. A bit independent, self-driven, and eager to lend a hand around the house.

She helped Izumi rake the garden as the autumn leaves began to tumble in dense blankets across the yard.

Arya would much rather play in their meticulously combed piles than grab a rake and help out.

Romi celebrated his birthday and aged into an adult. He still looks young and cheeky as he always did though.

This has to be a bug, but whenever my sims grab leftovers they stand in front of the fridge our counter instead of rerouting. You’ll often find the Villanueva’s crowded around the kitchen instead of sitting in the dining room.

Later that night, Selena bolted outside. I thought for sure she was going to run away - again - which had become a habit of hers at this point.

But she rolled over and her heart stopped beating. 

Romi had just put the kids to bed and his parents were both downstairs when they heard Selena’s last howl through an open window.

Romi was devasted. Rufina and Izumi adopted Selena as a gift to Izumi and himself. Now that it was his birthday.. she was being taken away.

Rufina and Izumi always had a soft spot for animals so they too this loss pretty hard as well. They took turns sobbing, but the Grim Reaper was swift.

Just before they could pass their scythe over Selena, Horchata appeared.

She immediately joined her family in mourning.

As the sun rose, Romi buried Selena in the backyard. He would be the first of the family to leave an offering at her tomb.

It was a beautiful morning, but he couldn’t enjoy it at all.

Rufina left early for work and Izumi busied herself with washing the laundry by hand. She needed an excuse to get out of the house. Laundry, gardening... anything to avoid putting Selena’s things away in storage.
