There's this idea of some Grand Fucking Thing that is supposed to be the most important part of life, something that you apparently can't live without, and it means Absolutely Nothing to me. That's really the only way to say it. It sounds so tragic to some people but to me it's fucking amazing

Woohoo I have a story to post.

I have a friend who is five years younger than me and practically my sibling at this point. We talk about a lot of things, but I obviously don't mention anything that is situationally inappropriate or would make them uncomfortable. Here's where it gets awkward:

I am aromantic.

I am not asexual.

They think I am.

There is nothing wrong with being alloaro and I am happy to discuss things with the friends closer to my age. But can you blame me for not wanting to clarify that I am sexually attracted to guys when talking to a fifteen year old?

Especially after they once vented to me about being sex-repulsed. I could relate because dysphoria caused me to grow up despising the idea of sex which is, admittedly, where the misunderstanding begins.

Now, I’m not saying romantic relationships are inferior, or that they’re useless, or that you being in one or that you shipping some characters romantically is Bad or something off the walls like that. What I’m saying is that two people (or characters, since we’re talking shipping here) can be just as devoted to each other, love each other just as deeply, mean just as much to each other while being in a platonic relationship. The end point of caring about someone doesn’t have to be romance.

Friendship isn’t a stepping stone between strangers and romantic partners, it’s a different path. And you can follow that path as deep into the wood as a romantic one if you want, and neither is inferior to the other, they just have different views.
