And by trying to enforce boundaries - essentially 'laws' of what they think their media should be interpreted like - they actually grossly misstep the established boundary between creator and audience. Creators prohibiting certain art being made about their creation never ends well. And furthermore it never actually amounts to anything other than harassment. Literally one of the oldest sayings from early internet is fucking rule 34 - if something exists, there will be porn of it. In general it also means that if something exists, especially if it's any sort of media, derivative works will exist. Shipping will exist.

But also I think we do have to take into account that fandoms these days have become an extremely, outwardly queer space, and that shipping and fan works, and nsfw, has become a method of queer expression. And how by shutting down shipping and nsfw work and framing it as 'creepy' 'gross' or 'freaky', they are perpetuating negative stereotypes and attempting to prohibit predominantly queer art. There's something about that I think, especially coupled with a recent rise against nsfw content in general, too.

But really even without going that deep, these idiots need to stay in their fuckin lanes fr.
