so where do we begin?

you and hanbin have been friends for years. ever since you met in high school you became the best of friends after realising how compatible the two of you are. both of you were immediately drawn to each other and the amount of times you were mistaken to be a couple since then is more than you could count.

to be honest you saw where all these people came from with that point. you and hanbin do usually act couple-y with one another but never think much of it. i mean you go on study dates, coffee dates, walks together, he gets you flowers, takes you to the movies and so on. but that’s just what best friends do right?

wrong.

you can’t lie and say that you haven’t developed feelings for hanbin after years of doing all of these things but there’s nothing you could really do about it. so you don’t. you live happily in your delusions pretending that all of this is real.

one of the many couple-like things that the two of you do is your annual christmas sleepover. this tradition came to be a couple of months after your friendship began when you were 14 and your parents decided that your families will spend christmas together. hanbin and his family stayed over on christmas eve and you all opened your presents together the next day.

this tradition continues up until now, where both of you attend uni together and continue your completely platonic relationship.

so your currently setting up the apartment waiting for hanbin’s return from the store. he went to go pick up some snacks while you finished setting up the fort in the living room. the setup was cosy and warm. you managed to get some matching christmas pyjamas for the two of you to wear as well as matching mugs for your hot chocolate. the selection of movies was laid out in front of you while the pile of pillows and teddies was laying behind you.

just as you ran into your room to grab hanbin’s gift to place under the christmas tree the door opened and in walked your best friend.

“hey i’m back” he said as he walked through the door.

“bin you’re finally here” you ran to him after placing the gift down under the tree. you almost wrapped your arms around him before remembering that he’d been out while it was snowing so you instead unzipped his jacket and took it off for him, hanging it up on the hanger before embracing him in a hug. “right on time. i just finished setting up” you say into the embrace before letting go and looking up at him. your eyes meet his for a few seconds before you grab the bag of snacks out of his hand and bring them to the fort. “come on! put your pyjamas on!” you say and hold them out to him. he only chuckles at you.

“okay okay. i’ll be back in a second” he says and leaves to his room to get changed. soon he came back through to the living room with a gift in his hand. he walked over to the tree and placed it next to the gift bag that you had put there not long ago. he sat next to you. “so, what are we watching?” he said and reached out to pick up some of the cds which were laying on the floor before him.

“hmmm” you pretend to think while resting your chin on his shoulder to look at the movies. “maybe the grinch?” you say and pint to the cd in his hand.

“great pick” he said and popped open the cd’s box. “you get comfy, i’ll put it on.” he said and patted your head lightly. you moved back into the fort and got cozy under the blankets while waiting for him to put the movie on. you opened some of the packs of snacks that he brought just as he came to lay down beside you.

the movie started and as the plot rolled out you lay your head on hanbin’s shoulder. this was, again, quite a normal occurrence for you but this felt more intimate than normal seen as he reached out shortly after and laced your fingers together, holding your hand in his bigger one. it felt so warm. so comfortable. it was home.

and before you knew it, the first movie was over and on came another - you and hanbin only separating for the few minutes it took him to put on the polar express - and the two of you were back to your previous position. about halfway into the second movie you started to feel drowsy and started to drift away into dreamland on hanbin’s shoulder.

he, of course, noticed and only moved you so that you were laying right on his chest. for comfort he thought, but he wasn’t sure if it was yours or his. he must admit he completely melted at the sight of you peacefully sleeping on his chest, one hand wrapped around his torso and the other lightly gripping the shirt of the matching pyjama set that he had on and he could only hope that you’ll appreciate the gift he has prepared for you.

he soon found himself feeling a bit more tired and decided to head off to sleep - holding you tightly - but not before checking the time which now was 00:02.

“merry christmas my love” he whispered to you quietly before making himself comfortable in the small fort that you have built for the two of you.

you woke up warm and comfortable (with a blanket that fell off the fort on your face but comfy nonetheless) you yawned and stretched as you heard your back pop in a couple of places from sleeping on the floor. as you were stretching you felt the arms around your waist tighten around you. you were pulled into hanbin’s chest and found yourself with a small smile on your face as you melted into the warm embrace.

“merry christmas bin” you whispered to him after noticing he was awake.

“merry christmas y/n” he says with a sleepy smile while rubbing his eyes tiredly. both of you stopped and looked at each other. everything just felt so right at this moment - waking up in his arms and hearing his voice first thing in the morning. hanbin couldn’t help but reach out a hand to cup your cheek. “you’re so beautiful” he whispered so quietly you almost didn’t hear him. his eyes flickered down to your lips.

“wait” you whispered softly. “wait one minute” you said slightly louder and got up to grab the gifts under the tree. you gave him your gift. “open it please” you said and he lightly tore the neat wrapping paper.

he carefully removed the paper to reveal a sleek black box. he opened it and inside was a small silver chain bracelet with a small thin rectangle in which ‘forever’ was engraved in small lettering. he let his finger slide over the word as he examined the box. he soon came to realise that on the inside of the lid ‘i love you’ was written in fine gold print.

“i-“ he didn’t even know what to say. “thank you” he said and looked up at you with slight tears in his eyes. he couldn’t believe it it finally happened. “thank you so much” he wrapped his arms around you so tightly you almost could breathe. “i love you too” he whispered to you as you embraced him back.

you broke the hug and looked up at him with sparkling eyes. you cupped his cheeks in yours and brought his face to yours placing a light peck on his lips which he, of course, reciprocated.

“open mine” he said. and you did. he had gotten you a gorgeous golden necklace which had a small gold circle hanging from it on which both of your initials were engraved and a heart on the other side.

and on the lid of the box ‘i love you’ was written in fine gold print.

christmas cookies

pairing: zhang hao x fem!reader

in which: you and hao bake christmas cookies together even though you are both fire hazards in the kitchen.

warnings: reader chokes, kisses, lowercase intended !! in love and concerned hao, fluff fluff fluff, not proof read !!

“hao stop it!” you shout shielding yourself from the flour which is currently being thrown at you.

“nuh uh, this is payback!” your best friend says back while grabbing another handful of flour to throw in your face.

as of right now, you are about an hour into your baking experience with hao and it’s been eventful to say the least. in the time that you have currently spent trying to make cookies together you have:

1. remade the dough

2. dropped three eggs on the floor

3. got butter everywhere

4. remade the dough again

5. thrown flour at hao

6. finally put the cookies in the oven

7. gotten flour thrown at you

8. fallen even more in love with your best friend (and you didn’t even know that was an option)

to be completely honest you’ve been harbouring feelings for hao ever since you became friends when you were kids. he was just so charming even at the age of 5 (he gave you his spade in the sandbox) and you just couldn’t resist the cheeky little prince that the universe so graciously gave to you.

even now, at the ripe age of 23, the two of you continue your tradition of baking christmas cookies together without somehow burning the kitchen down and you just can’t seem to take your eyes off of your best friend.

he is always so kind and thoughtful towards you, although it may not show in times like this where he’s attacking you with flour, and with each passing day you find yourself falling for him more and more.

you wouldn’t exchange this for anything in the world. what more could you want during christmas other than laughing with your best friend (read; the love of your life) while making sugar cookies with christmas songs playing in the background and the fairy lights-

and apparently a coughing fit to interrupt the moment. (it turns out that breathing in flour isn’t the brightest idea.)

“woah are you okay?” you hear the laugh in hao’s voice immediately disappear as he puts down the bag of flour and runs over to you while patting your back. “i’m sorry i didn’t mean to make you choke” he says sheepishly as you catch your breath again. he fills up a glass of water and hands it to you.

“no it’s okay” you say while taking the glass. “thank you” you say after taking a sip. you look at hao only to find him staring back at you already. you notice he starts to move towards you holding out his hand which you soon feel resting on your flour-covered cheek.

he wipes away the tears which you didn’t realise have formed while you choked on the flour but doesn’t take his hand away while you stare into his eyes. his eyes flicker down to your lips momentarily as he starts leaning closer to you. you close your eyes and lean up towards him. you can almost feel his breath on your lips when-

beep beep

the cookies are done.

he immediately pulls away and you turn away from him thankful for the flour on your cheeks for covering the redness which has bloomed on your face.

“sorry, i’m sorry” he says and massages his neck. “you go and get cleaned up i’ll get the cookies” he says and you leave as quickly as possible.

you hop in the shower quickly to get rid of the flower in your hair. did that really just happen? did i really almost kiss my best friend.

that is all you could think about during your short shower along with what do you do next? do you bring it up? do you stay quiet? do you go up and kiss him?

despite all of your rushing thoughts you threw on one of the shirts hao gave you and walked back into the kitchen.

“the cookies are basically cooled now so we can decorate them soon” you heard hao say as if nothing had happened.

“oh that’s great” you said a bit disappointed that he decided to ignore the situation. you thought that maybe this could have finally been the time where you could have done something about your feelings for him. “you go clean yourself up i’ll get the decorations out” you said with a forced smile and he left the room but not before shooting you a slightly worried look.

you let out a small sigh after he left the room and your eyes teared up slightly at the thought of him basically rejecting you. you got all of the decorations for the cookies out and set them on the table. you blinked away your tears quickly as you heard him coming back into the room.

“i got all of the decorations so we can start now” you said trying to put a slightly cheery tone in your voice.

“finally, this is my favourite part” hao said with a smile.

now it’s been about half an hour of cookie decorating time and you decided that you want to tell hao about your feelings outright to get a straight answer.

you’ve come to your decision because these past thirty minutes have been filled with nothing but subtle and not-so-subtle touches from hao some of these consisted of:

1. his hand brushing yours while reaching for the sprinkles

2. him putting his arm around your shoulder while grabbing something on the other side of you

3. him holding you by your waist to move you over so he can stand where you stood

4. wiping icing from your cheek (and staring lovingly into your eyes)

so with the final cookie you had you wrote across it as neatly as you could in icing ‘i like you hao. christmas date with me?’ and waited for the right moment to give it to him.

what you failed to notice is how hao started at you the entire time you were decorating the last cookie. he saw what you wrote and smiled the widest smile anyone could have ever seen.

next thing you know you see a cookie being slipped towards you with ‘yes :)’ written on it messily. you look over at hao to find him staring at you yet again with nothing but love in his eyes.

you smile at him and burry yourself in his chest after putting your cookie down. he reciprocates the hug and wraps his arms around your waist.

“i cant wait to take you out” he whispers and you lift your head to look at him.

“i cant wait to go with you wherever you take me.” you say with a soft smile. “i’ll always be happy wherever you are. you press a light kiss to the corner of his lips and before you could even pull away hao places a hand on the back of your neck and pulls you back in for a proper kiss.

you and jiwoong met in university, you both studied the same major and quickly became friends. you often hung out with each other which caused the two of you to have a strong bond despite knowing one another for only a few years.

it would be a lie to say that jiwoong hasn't made you feel anything towards him in those few years. he was an attractive man with a great personality which honestly checked all the boxes. he always put you first and made sure you were okay and comfortable in any situation he could. he truly was all you could ever ask for and more.

so this year you decided to do something about your feelings for him.

you had the perfect plan. both of you decided to spend christmas together at your apartment so you made sure to buy a hefty supply of mistletoe and try to stand under it with him.

you ordered the mistletoe and carefully planted it at practically every doorway of your apartment before he arrived at your place.

you managed to set up a gorgeous dinner for the both of you in your small cosy apartment, candlelight beings the only source of light along with your fairy lights and the set table on which stood a beautiful bouquet, and you hoped that he would appreciate what you have organized. you got ready and perfected the flowers on the table.

just as you were away to reach for the mulled wine which just finished heating on the stove you heard a knock.

"come in!" you shouted from the kitchen. you heard the door open and soon jiwoong walked into your kitchen in a white dress shirt and black slacks, a matching blazer hung from his shoulder. in his hands a small gift bag which he left under the tree next to your gift for him before walking over to you.

you felt the butterflies in your stomach as you turned off the stove and embraced him.

"merry christmas ji," you said into the embrace

"same to you y/n. you look amazing," he unwrapped himself from you and moved to help you with the wine claiming he doesn't want you to burn yourself while handling the hot beverage.

after pouring the wine into glasses he picked them up, headed over to the table and placed them down.

"sit, i'll get the food" he said with a warm smile and moved to pull out your seat.

"no, it's okay. you're my guest, i should be serving you, not the other way around." you waved your hands frantically but he just walked towards you with a smile.

"you’re so cute” he whispered under his breath “let's go together then, yeah?" he said and grabbed your hand in his. it was soft and warm and embraced your own so perfectly.

you were too occupied with the feeling of his hand in yours that you forgot to mention the small sprig of mistletoe above the kitchen door. he grabbed some of the food that was layed out on the counter while you took what was left back to the table.

the two of you sat down and started to eat.

"this tastes increduble y/n" he said as he took a bite of the food you prepared.

"thank you ji," you felt yourself blush slightly and were thankful for the the limited light that was iluminating your face.

“you know” he started “ i think we should get to the gifts soon. i cant wait for you to see what i got you” he smiled and took another bite of food.

“i think so too” you said and took a sip of the warm wine.

you both finished off the rest of the food and after some other conversations and laughter jiwoong got up to use the bathroom.

“i’ll be back in one second, go wait by the tree” he said softly. you nodded and went over to the sofa before you remembered that’s you had a few christmas snacks and cookies ready for later on (now) so you left the glasses of wine on the coffee table and got up to go to the kitchen.

just as you stepped foot in the kitchen and started picking out the snacks jiwoong left the bathroom. he saw that the dishes were still left out on the table and decided to take them in for you. so, being the amazing person he is, he grabbed the dishes and headed towards the kitchen.

as you were leaving the kitchen, arms full of snacks, jiwoong was walking in with the dishes from the table. you bumped into him seeing as you didn’t notice him due to your full arms.

“i’m so sorry! i didn’t see you” you said quickly. you notice a bit of icing that was left on his shirt from one of the cookies you were taking through. “oh no your shirt! wait here” you ran back to the kitchen and left the snacks on the counter. you grab a cloth and wet it under the tap before rushing back over to jiwoong. you take the dishes from him and put them on the counter. “i’m sorry ji i didn’t mean to ruin your shirt” you say as you start wiping at the bright green stain.

“hey it’s okay” he said and grabbed your wrist. you looked up at him and started into his shining eyes. he looked back into your eyes before his eyes flickered to your lips. before you could say anything he looked up, you followed after him and saw the small sprig of mistletoe you planted on the doorway hours prior.

“jiwoong..” as you looked back down you noticed he was already staring at you. “i- we don’t have t-“ you were cut off by him pressing his lips against yours so softly you thought you were imagining it and yet you pressed your lips back to his just seconds later with so much force and passion all he could do was wrap one arm around your waist and bring his hand to cup your face. it was as if time had stopped and sped up at the same time. you wanted to stay in this moment forever and yet you both pulled away breathless and with glossy lips.

“i guess my gift to you was pointless” he says. you give him a confused look before he laughs and pulls you over to the christmas tree. he picks up the small gift bag and pulls out a small sprig of mistletoe while looking at you with a wide smile.

“you are such a dork” you said with a laugh while taking the mistletoe from him.

“yeah but i’m your dork” he said “if you’ll have me of course”

“hmm” you pretend to think before holding the mistletoe above the two of you. “i will” you said and pulled him into another kiss which had both of you smiling into it. you were sure that mistletoe will become a new, meaningful tradition for the both of you.
