let's be real, only children believe in "love at first sight." but you're a hopeless romantic probably sitting around in coffee shops waiting to meet "the one." and there is absolutely nothing wrong with that. infatuation at first sight is more accurate. you are the moment when two people lock eyes, and the whole world stills. nothing is there but you and them. and there is suddenly a strong sense of longing. you love love, don't deny it. flowers, chocolates, the whole nine yards. because of this you are loved by many. hopefully you know it too: you are loved.

"Okay. Got everything set up." Len was shuffling around his apartment, setting up for making the homunculus. It was late but he wanted to go ahead and do it.

The magic paper he had written what he wanted his little buddy to look like got absorbed into the mound of synthetic flesh. It was sitting on a magic circle, intricate with all the directions in runes written around the edge.

Some of it had been damaged but Len had done his best to recreate the damaged parts.

Finally, he held the gemstone that contained the right amount of his own magic. It would give the homunculus life and loosely bind it to him.

The gem was gingerly placed on the center of the mound, everything starting to glow white.

But it changed, turning into a kaleidoscope of colors. Len quickly checked the written directions, finding nothing about light changing color.

"Oh fud-"

The windows shattered from the force of the explosion.

Len woke up, staring at the scorched ceiling with a sense of confusion and resignation. He glanced to the remains of the circle, seeing only paper scraps.

"Great, it either blew up or there's a rouge homunculus in here."

"What now?" Len mused as he looked at the large package dropped off for him. Had his name on it and everything so he just kinda pushed it in the apartment.

Upon opening the box, he started looking up the product online before grimacing.

Cellphone opened, he started calling Nell.

"Wazzup dude?"

"Yeah, Nell. I got a weird package outta nowhere."

"And you decided to call me?"

"Our names are pretty similar, maybe one of your admirers wanted to send it to you."

"What is it?"

Len adjusted in his spot on the lumpy couch. "That's the thing. It's one of these off brand homunculus thingies that you see the rich flaunting about now a days."

"Dude, what?"

"Oh wait. There's a letter in it." Len reached over and pulled it out. He scanned the letter.

"Oh god. Why her?"

"Jessica?"

"Jessica. Apparently, this box has been stuck in the delivery system for years."

"At least it's not recent. Maybe she's moved on?"

"I hope so."

"So, you gonna activate and use it?"

Len wants a girlfriend or boyfriend and a kid. The problem being his terrible luck and never really trying to stand out.
