The TAKOS Tuesday That Never Was

Bad Cop leaned back in his chair as he watched the security monitors for any signs of movement, singing softly to himself. The bots in the security office with him didn’t budge from their work, too fresh off the assembly line yet to do anything but focus on the task before them. Lord Business was probably right to worry. The few Master Builders that had escaped would never be able to pose a threat to the Tower on their own- Metalbeard’s failed raid was proof enough of that- but the Special was an experienced construction worker. He probably had all sorts of building plans memorized and could get them in and out without Bad Cop or Business even realizing they were there until after the damage was done. IF they survived their submarine’s implosion, anyway. He doubted it, but stranger things had happened.

The phone rang then, pulling him back into the present, and he picked up the receiver. “Bad Cop.”

“Hi-this-is-Lord-Business’-assistant-he-would-like-you-to-come-to-his-office-immediately.”

“Copy that, thanks.”

“You-are-welcome-sir.”

Bad Cop got to his feet and hurried out of the office. Business was in a really good mood right now, being so close to finally achieving his goals, but it still wasn’t a good idea to keep him waiting. He only made it around the corner when he realized two things.

The “robot” had introduced herself as “Lord Business’ assistant” instead of using her name.

And that definitely wasn’t Velma’s higher-pitched voice.

He was immediately on alert, his hand flying to the gun on his belt. So the Master Builders had survived and found their way inside after all. But just as he turned around to head back to the security office, he felt something tickling at the back of his mind, and froze.

It couldn’t be… Could it??

“Good Cop?” He ventured. “Is that you?” He didn’t care if he sounded pleading in that moment, he needed to KNOW.

The nudge he got in response was faint and weak, but there all the same. Bad Cop could have cried in relief. He realized he had a choice to make now, though. He could go back to the security office and capture the Master Builder that had tricked him into leaving, putting an end to their plans once and for all.

Or he could give Good his face back so he didn’t have a panic attack when he finally was fully awake again.

Bad Cop stood frozen in place, paralyzed with indecision.

But only for a moment.

He turned on his heel and made his way to the relic chamber.
