Flowey’s so funny and has me so fucked up like he’s a talking flower. He tries to kill you upon your first interaction. He is ten years old. He is damaged beyond repair. He’s a flower named Flowey. He’s become friends with every single character. He’s killed all of them countless times. He knows everything about everyone. He doesn’t care anymore. He takes care of his mom when she can’t take care of herself. He’s killed her before. He doesn’t care if you kill her. He thinks she’s trying to replace him. He just wants to be himself again. I hope this is Tumblr’s version of DMs, I don’t really use the site. Anyway, I’m Andrew Cunningham (the guy from youtube). Someone linked me to your blog today saying that you’d come to a lot of the same conclusions about Gaster’s as me, and having now looked at the blog, boy howdy you sure did! It’s kind of spooky actually, how many near-identical conclusions we arrived at. I guess that’s pretty validating.

I’m kinda both glad and upset that I didn’t know about your work prior to making my video- glad because if I did I might not have bothered repeating all the same stuff again myself, and upset because I wish I could have cited you as a second opinion and made all my takes look twice as strong lol. Oh my gosh, you have no idea how honored I am. Truly. When I watched your video I wanted to scream the whole time, because it was literally almost everything I’ve been saying for years! I honestly wondered at one point if you were a future version of me, lol. Anyways, your video kicked ass, and it totally put everything into a really understandable format.

Now, I'd really like to kind of set the stage here by saying I'm probably not the most qualified person in the world to answer your question. Like, I'm probably not even in the top 100, or even the top 1,000. BUT, I do care about this subject a great deal, having spent roughly the last seven years asking the same question you've just asked me: "How do I make music like Toby?"

Alright, so you wanna make music like Toby Fox. If you can read sheet music/have a basic understanding of music theory, you can never go wrong with this post. It's super informative and breaks everything down in a really digestible way.

If you wanna go one step farther, you can even use the same soundfonts that Toby Fox used to compose the OST of Undertale--it's all in this convenient google doc. The people that put this together have no doubt worked tirelessly to try to track down EVERY soundfont used in Undertale, even all the unused tracks. It's pretty damn impressive.

Toby also has some good advice about composing that he posted on his twitter that's worth a look.

But you probably wanna familiarize yourself with the OSTs that inspired the dog himself. He made a post a while back about that exact subject here.

To create music like someone you wanna sound like, it helps to listen to that person's music A LOT. Here's every single Toby Fox song ever (at least up until a year ago). I've listened to this more than I care to admit, and there's some GREAT tracks in there that most people overlook.

Okay, now that I've gone through all that, I would really like to address one thing you said in your ask. You said you're sad that you can't make music like Toby. While it's admirable to want to draw inspiration from the artists we like, I just want you to know that your music doesn't have to be exactly like Toby Fox's to be great. You said that you started composing seven months ago, and buddy, let me tell you that you should not be ashamed if your music doesn't sound the way you want it to at seven months in. Hell, I've been a composer for seven YEARS and I'm still unhappy with the way my tracks turn out ALL THE TIME. And that's okay. Your music doesn't have to be Toby Fox level to be worth doing. Just work on creating your own voice.

File attribution theory

In Undertale, there are 10 numbered SAVE files, going from “file 0″ up to “file 9″.

The UNDERTALE folder on the player’s computer may contain file 0, file 9 and file 8 depending on certain conditions.

These files mutually take each other into consideration. The fact that “file 6″ exists means that there was a “file 5″ already, otherwise file 6 would have just been called file 5. File 5 implies the existence of file 4 and so on.

This means that either all of those files are canon, or none of them are.

The game makes it pretty clear that we are in the first scenario given that the Flowey X fight directly refers to those files being an in-world thing.

Another case in which we can clearly see the impact of the different files within the game has to do with Frisk.

Lets say that a neutral route is played, then, the player SAVES just before fighting Asgore. Afterwards, instead of fighting the king, the player decides to RESET. The player then decides to go through the ruins without SAVING even once, but is eventually killed by a monster.

Where does Frisk come back to after dying in this situation ?

One would expect Frisk to either go back to the flower bed at the very beginning or to LOAD back to near Asgore where the player last SAVED.

But neither of those is what happens. Frisk actually comes back to this location :

And that’s not all. Lets say that now, the player closes the game and opens it up again. Where does Frisk LOAD to then ?

This time, they do LOAD back to near Asgore.

Frisk has just LOADED to two completely different points in space and time without having SAVED in between the two. This should be impossible with Frisk having control over only a singular SAVE file.

What happened here was that two different SAVE files were actually used :

“file 0″ and “file 9″.
