Apologies in Russian

Извини(-те) = Excuse me, sorry (neutral, very common)

Прости-(те) = I’m sorry (lit. “Forgive me”), also neutral and quite popular

Извиняюсь — rather familiar

Извиняй(-те) — familiar

Виноват = my bad (lit. “{I’m} to blame”)

*Logically, the feminine option — «виновата» — should be included here as well, but now that I think about it, I realise I’ve never come across this apology being used by women.

(Это) моя вина = (It’s) my fault.

Пардон — yes, it’s the French « pardon » (only suitable for an informal setting though)

Сори/Сорри, Сорян — now English will be the victim. These have been invented quite recently, are mostly used by youth, and are very informal

Прошу прощения = I beg your pardon (quite formal)

(Мы) приносим свои извинения за доставленные неудобства — We apologise for the inconvenience. (A cliché used in services to appease angry clients)

Also:

Это больше не повторится — This won’t happen again

Не знаю, что на меня нашло — I don’t know why I did this/I don’t know what happened to me

Structure:

Взять и + verb

Meaning

Somewhat similar to English “up and”/“go ahead and”: it serves to express an unexpected, supposedly purposeful action — or one following a quick decision.

Forming

When using, tenses corresponding to the time of the action are applied to both verbs:

Его никто не приглашал на вечеринку — а он всё равно взял и пришёл! No one had invited him to the party, but he {suddenly} came anyway!

Я долго думал, что делать с таким бесполезным подарком, а потом решил: возьму и продам! I had been thinking what to do with such a useless gift for a long time — and then I decided: I’ll just go ahead and sell it!

Если тебе что-то нужно, просто возьми и попроси. If you need something, just go ahead and ask.
