not that this matters but I feel like I need to announce to my literal dozens of followers on this account that I finally watched the s6 episodes that are out and i actually really like them. there I said it. I’m being so brave to admit that after being so whiny about ml for the last year lol but it feels good to be a lover again!!!
however comma I did have to pause several times throughout to rant about things that pissed me off lol and I still feel deeply opposed to and betrayed by many the narrative choices that led up to and stemmed from the s5 finale. so. I’m still a hater but I’m also ready to have a good time again. I am, perhaps foolishly, choosing to give the writers the benefit of the doubt (yet again) and hope that they will resolve the lying-about-gabriel thing in a satisfactory way. I was sort of afraid they just would let that be the new status quo forever and not really address it but the moral grayness and weight of that secret has been a recurring theme in the season so far so I assume they are building up to address it in the finale. (And I mean, I don’t think they should have made it a plot point at all, but I’ve already ranted about this at length so I won’t speak more on it now lol. Since they did choose to make this a plot point, it makes sense that it’s a big enough issue to need a major resolution and that’s better than it being glossed over after just an episode or two. And again I’m giving the benefit of the doubt here and hoping it won’t still be glossed over…which it could be. Please miraculous don’t do this to me again pleeeease.)
But anyway. Despite all of that I had a great time watching s6. the episodes were really fun and all the redesigns rock (still have mixed feelings abt adrien and marinette’s face models but I can live with it lol). I didn’t expect to like the new character Sublime but I actually enjoyed her a lot. and although I really do miss the old Ladynoir partnership dynamic, I am enjoying seeing all the heroes contribute. also this season is so gay so congrats to all the marcnath and julerose stans out there👍
And most surprisingly, I thought adrinette was really cute 😭 initially watching them be lovey dovey was giving me hives bc just like. Obviously I always wanted them to be together but not in THIS circumstance…., but they had some really sweet moments and I was just like 😭 ok yeah I still love them forever, i can’t help it, they’ve been my otp for like 6 years now and I’m weak. maybe I’ve just entered a new phase of denial. whatever. I’m never escaping the clutches of the cat and bug show I guess. maybe it will betray me even harder with this finale. who knows. In the meantime I’m gonna play with my blarbie dolls again and have a good time even if there is disappointment and bitterness still simmering under the surface. isnt that what we are all doing in the year 2025. isn’t that the only way to survive. you can be a lover and a hater simultaneously. i contain multitudes #nuance #myduality #someoneplaytoyswithme

I keep seeing people hand-wringing about how it would be ~so traumatizing~ for Adrien to confront his father, but that reasoning always struck me as kind of pathetic.
First of all, Adrien is a superhero, last I checked? Gabriel has power over Adrien, yeah, but Hawk Moth and Cat Noir don't have that kind of power dynamic.
Second of all, do you realize why it would be traumatizing for Adrien to do this, right? Adrien lacks a real support system outside of Marinette, and especially a real parental figure he can trust and that can cushion the loss. Of course he's going to be extremely vulnerable to Gabriel's emotional manipulation every time they fight, Gabriel is the only family he has left. To say nothing of the fact that the reveal is always unceremoniously dropped on him.
Third, the fact that it hurts is exactly what makes it interesting. Adrien is the type of character who keeps giving second chances and tries to see the good in people who least deserve it. The Adrien vs. Gabe confrontation puts him into a position where he has to realize that, no, sometimes you have to cut a bitch both for your own good and that of everyone around you. Thematically, Adrien's character is all about destruction sometimes being necessary, even if it doesn't make you feel warm and fuzzy about yourself.
Fourth and most importantly, and I can't believe this even needs to be said, Adrien is not a real child. If this were a real-life situation I would advise caution, but like. This is a story. Narrative cohesion always takes precedence over realism.
#exactlyyyy#‘it’s good that adrien wasn’t there for the final battle bc it would’ve been Too Hard for him!’#oh yeah I forgot that’s why they had Luke skywalker skip out on facing Darth vader#be so fr with me 😭#listen maybe he didn’t have to be there. but he had to have some kind of confrontation beforehand#a la Zuko in atla or Hunter in the owl house#like let the protagonist have their big epic fight with them. but let them get the closure first#let them say ‘you don’t control me anymore.’ come ON!!!#but honestly still that would be better but not ideal to me#bc that would be the plot approach that’s best for adrien specifically (like to have a separate confrontation but miss the final one)#cause no matter what it would just feels narratively jarring and disastisfying for CHAT NOIR to not be there#adrien is occupying two narrative roles in his relationship with Gabriel#so as adrien he needs closure with his father and as chat noir he needs to confront and defeat hawkmoth#which has been the primary goal of both ladybug AND chat noir from day 1#like if his role as a hero was ever important he should be granted the dignity of that opportunity. idk#and of course those roles converge and that convergence is important and fascinating and unique and that’s why the complete disregard#of BOTH of them#will forever feel like the biggest narrative waste/slap in the face to me#I keep thinking it’s fine I’m over it I’m moving on#but i just can’t move on from it bc wtf!!!#after investing so many years of my life into this story the disappointment of that consclusion to the arc feels personal lmao#I’m finally getting around to watching s6 and I’m actually really enjoying it and having fun with it#(and trying to ignore the reminders that piss me off dhjddj)#and if they play their cards right with the whole hawkmoth lie i could be satisfied#but even if that resolves well#it will not change the disappointment/waste of adrien (and chat noir) missing the chance to confront gabriel (and hawkmoth)#with the heavy themes of abuse and control centered around adrien in this story#it just feels like such a concerning mishandling of a delicate issue to me#if you’re gonna develop a plot involving a main character who is so tightly bound and trapped then you need to properly liberate them#and give them a leading role in that liberation. allow them to break free

like there's just so much going on in miraculous ladybug like it's a baby kids show that has akumas every week and is funny and has cute romance which is what i expected and i assume most people wanted. and then it also has insane themes from things such as having a miraculous that has a power of creating designer babies forced to do whatever you want; which is not inherently bad i actually think it's a fascinating topic to explore but maybe in a horror movie. not the baby kids show that is mainly a feel good romance? i suppose the idea is to make it more similar to avatar and other family focused shows where it is both fun but has adult themes that cater to parents watching, but in this case they could handle their more adult themes with like a smidgen more care than they do. instead they introduce shit like sentimonsters and waffle on the morality of doing stuff like: killing them. GIRL‼️ this is a baby kids show we're teaching children MORALS‼️ murder is bad guys. unless the heroes do it 💖
#ok i wrote a whole essay in the tags but hit tag limit lol so I will just say this:#yes big agree. this is my main problem with the show rn#I think ml as a concept is fantastic and that is what has hooked me for the last 5 years#all the fun cartoon shenanigans but with this added#weight bc of these interesting dramatic elements like the love square and Adrien’s dad being the villain#and just kids having to take on so much responsibility#but in the end I think the show has a huge messaging problem#there are things that make for really fascinating and compelling stories for adults#that just should not be in a kids’ show. bc kids are still learning right from wrong#they are looking to these characters as role models. so the messaging has to be super clear#ofc kids can handle deeper/more complex themes than some people give them credit for#but honestly moral grayness does not compute well with that audience#whether it’s interesting to you as an adult is not the point. the point is what does a literal child take from this?#even if some things are ‘fixed’ later…any lingering plot point that involves moral grayness is just gonna confuse the target audience#just..ladybhg losing. Gabriel getting to make the wish. choosing how he gets to be remembered.#marinette lying not just to Adrien but the world about who he was and presenting him as a hero#adrien—the abuse victim—being free of his abuser but never getting closure and never learning the truth#his autonomy still being threatened every minute. and marinette being complicit in it#with good intentions yes but still. back to the moral grayness. we’ve been soaking in it for ages and it just baffles me#idk I kind of feel like Thomas astruc wants to be writing a gritty DC superhero drama with an antihero protagonist#but he is writing a cartoon that started out as like magical girl anime meets marvel jr. in France#even with the show now indicating a buildup to a breaking point where the truth comes out#and alya openly opposing marinette’s choices. it’s still like…why are we even here?#dude this isn’t the dark knight this is a show where the main character feeds cookies to her pocket bug who can turn her into a magical hero#like.#ok sorry I wrote another essay but believe it or not this#is shorter lol#anyway tldr: amen and thank you
