i wouldn't go so far to call it 2/3rds of the fandom who directly correlate show annabeth with book annabeth, maybe a quarter tho

1/4th is more like the people who draw show Percy. They’ll jump on the chance to draw book Percy but always pair him with show Annabeth

Just to comment on the Wrath of the Tripple Goddess cover being book accurate Percy and Annabeth even after the show came out, I really think he’s trying to make the show and books two separate things even as they’re overlapping at the same time if that makes sense yk

Like he’s obviously not gonna switch up the character’s appearances part way through the books, and because he’s obviously been making some other plot changes in the show it’s less of an adaption and more of a remake

I really do believe they’re two separate things for him but 2/3rds of the fandom simply insist that show Annabeth is now book Annabeth despite RR’s obvious hesitance to commit to the change. Once he answers a question about this, ik so many people will attack him because obviously the images he created and sustained for over 10+ years exist despite the casting choices

ur my hero for this, i'm a poc myself too and usually don't mind race swapping at all but annabeth has annoyingly bothered me so much it's crazy. the only 2 characters i've wanted to look like their original description have been percy and annabeth, but ofc that had to get screwed up. I do like your posts a lot, wish i could do more to show my appreciation

It was such a disappointment changing the appearance of the main characters like that . Aryan is just the spitting image of Grover- the one that Rick literally commissioned Viria to draw- so he’s a very satisfying fit. He looks like Grover, but Percy and Annabeth don’t look like Percy and Annabeth .

And I just think it’s rich that Rick decided to cast them but cannot bring himself to commit to it and write them with those characteristics. That cover for Wrath of the Triple Goddess depicts book Percy and Annabeth… a cover he also commissioned, guided, and approved of.

This got a little off topic but dw about support! I know there’s lots who like my edits but dont interact for obvious reasons! Just that thought is enough for me

tbh I agree with you I don’t hate leah she’s pretty and has good acting skills but I do wish annabeth looked like her book version :/ like not racist I just wish she looked accurate… I’m fine with you editing the art but could you ATLEAST credit the og artists? art theft isn’t ok

I’m sure she’ll come into acting with time but I just can’t see the show helping her or any of them. It’s such a weird thing but the script made everyone so stoic and confined them to these serious expressions and deliveries that (honestly) made the kids’ acting,,, not my favorite

Also as someone else put it, my “half way decency” is me not covering up the watermarks. I can easily do that but I just leave them there because that’s a weird line I just don’t want to cross

i hate how no one really gets me when i say that i just wanted a book accurate percy and annabeth :( legit the only 2 characters that should've looked like how they were described in the book. I'm kinda praying for a new movie adaptation of the books with more accurate casting. Also being fr, the show is just bad cuz of the horrible writing

I’ve been saying that the show is going to get three seasons max before it’s shut down . Supposedly production for s2 is predicted to begin next summer which ? Why is it taking so long for shows to be made nowadays? It kills all the hype.

I'm also betting on a reboot sometime in the future (10 years or longer) with accurate casts and a good script. Like Spider-Man and its three movies; third times a charm

Did you even watch the show? What were your thoughts

I tried cause a few years ago (before the show was even announced) I was a huge fan and loved the books and all. I got my sister to watch it and we could not get through the third episode because the writing is so dialogue heavy and overall all they did was stand and dump plot onto the viewer.

I even later on got into a discussion about the show with my classmate and she heard that the show is “doing nothing but yapping” and I unfortunately had to tell her that yes that’s literally all they did (I still followed up on each episode just barely to see what happened but again all anyone ever talked about was how they just talk and talk and stand and talk and know everything and-).

It’s unfortunate because she did follow up a few weeks later and tell me that her and a group of her friends did watch it and did NOT like it because of the writing. A show so anticipated and it completely failed in that department like?

I’m not ashamed to say I read fanfics (on AO3 only; the quality ones) and it simply baffles me how those works are exponentially better written than an entire tv show production? I’m not too surprised because honestly even the pjo fanfics have been declining in quality for a while now… of course the show is “perfect” to them

I really liked the kids acting in the PJO show, but as an autistic person I have a lot of trouble dealing with changes. I got a bit dissapointed with the casting and at least for the first 3 episodes until I get aquainted with the actors faces my brain was kinda replacing them in my mind with kids who look like the book characters. Watching ATLA liveaction on the other hand was so confortable!

I’ve always wanted to watch the cartoon ATLA and now the live action but I can hardly get into watching something new ;( once you don’t have unlimited time and zero responsibilities, everything is so bleh .

and for the two and a half episodes of the pjo show I did watch, everyone but Grover and honestly Dionysus were hard to picture as who they supposedly were. I’ll say that the girl who played Nancy would have made a perfect Rachel (I can’t remember her name off the top of my head, forgive me)

On anon out of fear but I gotta say… one of the things about book Annabeth was that she looked like a “dumb” blonde California girl (nothing against California girls!) and was defying stereotypes by actually being a warrior and battle strategist. Those aren’t the stereotypes POC struggle with so it felt sort of weird and icky for Annabeth to be the one they change for diversity. I got nothing against diversity or even slight changes in appearance from the book character but it sorta felt like it sapped some of the meaning from annabeth’s story.

No no, we’re not on the same team 🧍‍♀️as a poc myself you’re very wrong in the fact that people (as you say) don’t stereotype poc as “dumb” and further demeaning words. We do it to ourselves, even! I forget when exactly that pipeline comes in, but I don’t expect the show to handle it well at all. It *could be a beautiful storytelling string but with the way the first season was written there’s no way they won’t fumble it.

Although, we differ from the fact the I do mind the change in appearance. I’ll never get behind race swapping because I want them to look like the offical art (the one Rick still has on his website). Blond Percy does give me the 🧍‍♀️ but all he’d have to do is dye his hair.

Well thank you. My art block is tremendous atm so whenever I have time and I want to pass it, I turn to this. You can’t just turn blocks like this off, but doing what I’m doing uses just the right amount of skills and brain power to keep it interesting without ditching the canvas after an hour of no progress <3 And because I can already smell it, I know the posts are good. They look good and original to the source* and anyone who says otherwise is just mad at me for good reason. A pet peeve, of sorts. Lying about something clearly well done just because the creator is not to your liking 🫤

im so relieved to find someone who doesnt like leah as annabeth because she looks nothing like book annabeth with ZERO racist intentions(i hope?).

because people dont understand- like i love leah she's done a phenomenal job portraying annabeth but i just wanted her to look like annabeth like she;s been my comfort character and like having the way she's being portrayed change- thats been hugeee for me (huge bad). and if i say this people usually jump on me for being racist (not all but yeah most people ive told this to).

but isnt just annabeth. i HATE that percy is blonde. i hate it so muchhh that all the fanarts are changing and i hate the eyecolour part of the books- its just gone cause i personally felt like that was a big thing in the og series.

(and another thing- most of my personal favourite fanarts of percy show him as a poc) and the blonde white asf casting for percy also bothers me (like personally)

whatever my personal opinions are tho theyre still kids (i say this being aryan's age hahah) and the hate leah's getting is fricking unacceptable.

The ship has long sailed for anyone to find me genuine when I say “with zero racist intentions” because obviously I’m doing something so weird and out of my way but truly my dislike for show Annabeth is what you just said: she looks nothing like book Annabeth.

There’s a different type of satisfaction seeing a character portrayed as they have always looked (whether described in writing, illustrated in art, etc) and whenever it’s not done correctly it’s always a let down.

Fortunately I’ve moved away from the PJO fandom so the overall inaccuracies with all the characters doesn’t put me in as foul of a mood as you hinted at 😅 I was thinking of all the let down Annabeth fans though when the casting was announced. I’ll feel your pain if Nico’s casting isn’t done right; he’s the only one I am eager to see (even if I stopped watching the show after episode 3 due to its horrible writing ☺️)
