Bianca Stone, from What Is Otherwise Infinite: Poems; “Other Wound”
[Text ID: “Every daughter / has a cage around her head / and a mother on the cross. / I always hope to take it off, and rarely do. / Instead, I climb up, like a child into the bed. / I nail myself beside you.”]

Stuck
Inertia, fabric of tragedy The weighted limbo between all things, The warmth that lingers in the air where you were, like the sand that clings to the waning heat of the setting sun. The waves withdraw, the salt that lingers, the cold that clings to my skin, to your skin, until our limbs are folded in to their rightful boundaries. You pull yourself from my sheets, your form inert in the pillowy hold of my mattress. It lingers, I linger. I trace the space in between the blankets and feel the absence of skin to caress, inert in the decomposing memory that rots outside my windowsil.
Still, apple of my eye, your deceitful fruit decays in the cup of my open palm. The snake that bears your venemous seed lingers as my lips linger on the skin of its red flesh. Milky poison drips from lips to cheek to chest, the poisoned milk of my breast will rot you from the inside to. My body, held by memory, is blooming from the inside, mushrooms blossom in the softest soil of my womb, shadows sway on you black-berry bruised as you arch into the gaping wound of my desire.
The bedframe yawns. The door is ajar. The windchimes hum under the black-belly of the night, its song whistles through the open window. You've been gone about an hour now, but you linger in the strands of hair abandoned on the couch. I have no soul, I am my hands, My hands that hold and love you as asylum, that mapped the stretchmarks on your shoulders that searched the cabinets, the kitchens, the sinks, for every scrap of your devotion, for every smile that glistened like moonlight bouncing off still oceans, for every touch that roared, a sea sprayed against steadfast stone, for every time your head was in my arms, there are stars that char the innards of my palms. I lean outside the windowstill and linger in our depart, to pluck the mushrooms sprouting from your buried, beating heart.

— Heaven, Mieko Kawakami
[text ID: I knew that it was cruel to be so optimistic, but, in my solitude, I couldn't resist the urge and spent entire days basking in idiotic fantasies, sometimes verging on prayer.]

btw. one of my professors showed us this website that’s put together syllabi on a range of topics (e.g imperialism, the novel, pandemic/disease theory), in case anyone’s interested ! i think you have to source the texts in question yourselves, but it’s arranged pretty well imo
