I want to fixate on @grayyylake99 point about maturity, and it's true thats the point of the Httyd franchise, what some people fail to understand is that Hiccups journey is one of finding masculinity, one of finding himself, the classic hero's journey, he even returns to wre he started with the dragons leaving Berk, only a better man for it

And that what the LA brilliantly understood about its audience. That the people that will worship the LA, don't want to mature, don't want to look growth in the eye and they will reject it, they just want NOSTALGIA.

The didn't want to add anything to Astrid by adding this line, they just wanted to sanitize the story for a modern audience they think is incapable of comprehending a woman that is defined by duty and honor instead of ambition and thrones. It's shallowness at its finest

It give a toxic undertone to Hiccstrid, makes the viewer ask, what if she just wants to be Chieftess

I think one if the reasons that Hiccup and Astrid are so prominent in fanfics and most importantly modern aus...is because there's such a great variety in the way they can be interpreted,thanks to the fact that in canon they change constantly as people. What essentially happens is that it is probable the both Hiccup and Astrid can be interpreted as one the modern archetypes of people of our world. Think of Hiccup,one could easily interpret him as a badboy type (man does look good on a leather jacket) and not be irrational, provided of course the author does things within reason, because Hiccup by al accounts is an adrenaline junkie, rides a speeding black dragon for fun, is suave and confident and has enough sass to make everyone his enemy and also a joyful and mischievous side and a bit self centered but not in a bad way. BUT at the same time he also has a strong moral code, he is kind and compassionate, a geek with a love for books and mechanics and most certainly is considerate and smart, so one could just as easily interpret him as a nerdy type. And that's what makes him interesting. I was discussing this with @tysonrunningfox but what we essentially concluded is that if someone tries to put Hiccup or Astrid into one these archetypes they will eventually stumble into a characteristic of Hiccup and Astrid that goes against those archetypes. So the author WILL HAVE to write in a reason as to why the characters chose to hide that characteristic. At the end of the day it depends on where one will focus on

I'm actually glad to sya that but the loos of it I have at least of few people that I can talk about it. Even if they are the biggest creators of fanfics out there but whatev and make me look like and amateur

I'm mainly surrounded by people who wouldn't get it and that's fine I don't care, the main problem I face is to kill enough same so that I can actually start doing it, cos I have ideas, I have authors I can learn from, it's just never perfect enough in my head and it sound dumb I know

Ok I have a few more questions I believe the world should see. The main one is what us your motivation to write exclusively modern aus. I assume you're interested in the way modern society would effect these characters but correct me if Im wrong

Second is, with your dialogue I think you take the less is more, double meaning behind regular words type approach mixed with wit, especially with Hiccup and this question I guess ties to my past one, how does character influence your dialogue,what do you keep in mind when writing dialogue?

And the last one is, fanfics as a whole carry a lot of negative stigma, being seen as degeneration by some, did that general viewpoint ever affect you? If yes how did you overcome that "shame" , how did you introduce it ot your social circle? Cos you have mentioned your husband making Snotlout mpreg jokes with you and Viking Milf jokes and I'm like...huh...where can I find a spouse like that?

Or do your friends hear you talk about tenintched dick and he apologized for it and just assume you are idk

I wouldn't say I exclusively write modern aus, I do think that the most time I've spent in canon (to me! It's canon to me!) is Festerverse and when I want Vikings, I tend to go and visit my boy Eret III (he's doing big things right now in my head, depression-stache, disabled terror in a baby bjorn, ripped the sleeves off of all his shirts👨‍🍳😘) But I have plenty of drabbles etc. in canon, and do like it there. I think modern aus just have more variety and you can only play with the same dolls so many times.

The way I write dialog is that I am Plagued by Voices and Visions. I do write towards jokes, and unfortunately, a lot of my editing is in dialing everyone else back and making them sound right because I'll have everyone joking the same way if I'm not careful. Except Snotlout, who exists fully formed in me like a twin I ate in the womb.

I think the only way through is to kill the shame. Like is it lame how much time I've spent writing an art thief au about cartoon dragon riders? Hell yeah, I'm having fun though and posting nonsense about how they're freaks has made me laugh a lot lately when real life was stressful, totally worth being lame. @oh--you--pretty--things absolutely hears me talk about Hiccup's dick and is just like oh, she's doing that again. Ok.

A personal head cannon of mine is that in HTTYD2, in the scene where hiccup tells Astrid that he has been catching up with his mom and then see her flying with the bewilderbeast coming up behind her, roughnut and toughnut overheard this and don't think "oh thor! Hiccup's mom is summoning the bewilderbeast!" But rather they think "HOLY ODIN! HICCUP'S MOM IS THAT HUGE F***ING DRAGON!?!?". Then start contemplating on how and why stoic managed to get a dragon pregnant, let alone have intercourse with it and later just chalk it up to "that's just how manly stoic is"

Unlike a lot of my stories, Flight of the Valkyrie doesn’t have a planned plot. For most of it, I’m just writing what comes to mind. I have a few key scenes in mind, but then rest of it is just kind of 🤷🏻‍♀️

So if someone day dreams about Buffstrid going on morning runs with Hiccup over her shoulders as a weight, I want to hear about it. Maybe it’ll make it in the fic!
