Nova Dooley: A Summary

Nova grew up in a decently stable home, went to a normal high school, played in the orchestra, took ballet lessons, joined A/V club, went to the football games, and essentially grew up in a normal, happy, american setting. She met Vince her junior year of high school. They were 17. Their senior year, Vince was jumped into the Los Santos diablos. A street gang that reigned over the neighborhood from south 17th to south 1st, residing in the four-way that was located in the middle. Nova didn’t know Vince was a member until she moved in with him during her freshman year of college. She was forced to drop out after taking the fall for one of Vince’s many crimes. She had just turned 19. Four months before her 21st birthday, she killed Vince. Their relationship had progressively gotten more abusive, and the more Vince hung around the diablos, the worse it got. Vince had gotten his hands on Nova a number of times, causing her to cover up black eyes before work, and hide cuts and bruises on her arms and back. Her hospital record recorded just about every incident, but since she never claimed abuse, they never did anything. Not even when the nurse was sure that the gashes across Nova’s back were caused by the whipping of a leather belt. It was after that incident that Nova took up knife throwing. Going to class twice a week, and practicing when Vince wasn’t home, Nova actually got very good, very quickly. By the end of the first month, Nova was certain she was lethal. So was her teacher. At the end of the three month course, her teacher gifted her a set of throwing knives. The man said “Now that we’ve taught the prey to hunt, the hunter will be in grave danger.” Nova’s teacher, unbeknownst to her, was still a man of great power, wand held a lot of influence in Los Sucios. An old crime boss who had since retired from the game. His real name was a mystery, but the man sure did like to brag, and shared his old stories with Nova as they practiced. So, in turn, Nova shared hers. Two weeks after she finished the class was when she was approached by Boss and given a business card. She never stopped to wonder if her teacher was somehow involved after she killed Vince and met the crew, but that’s only because she knew he was. Especially when she learned how much the crew actually knew about her. The man saw great potential in her, he had told her so, and apparently the “great potential” he saw was of criminal nature. But, it takes one to know one, right? After years of abuse, Nova had become very good at hiding emotions, playing the role she needed too, and talking herself out of bad situations. She had done hard time, even if it was only three months. Her computer skills, mainly hacking skills, were some of the best. She hacked into the White House security mainframe just to set off all of the nearby government car alarms, and that was only because a group of her computer science friends dared her too. Apparently, these were skills that her teacher saw as a perfect fit for the crew. She often wondered how she went from a high school girl with dreams and aspirations to being a stay at home girlfriend with no friends or life to speak of. Then she remembered. Because of Vince. But Vince was gone now. She could put her skills to use, given she was just a tad rusty when it came to hacking, and actually try to do some good for the city that she called home. Los Sucios hadn’t always protected her, but she promised she’d protect it.
