While I can appreciate the concept of shipping, and romantic fanfic as a genre, I enjoy nothing more than the idea of fanfiction where the whole point is just throwing two characters who would otherwise never meet into a situation together just for the hell of it, like finding two weird bugs and putting them the same jar to see what they would do. Especially ones not from just two different stories, but wildly different genres. Like what if these two motherfuckers spent 24 hours trapped in the same elevator together.

How to write hospital scenes 

From someone who’s definitely been in too many and would very much like a refund...ツ

⊹ Waiting rooms are emotional purgatory. They’re too bright, too quiet, and weirdly timeless. Fluorescent lights buzzing, TVs playing muted news no one watches, coffee that tastes like burnt stress. People aren’t relaxing in there, they’re just existing, awkwardly pretending their phones are interesting while dissociating at 40% battery.

⊹ Everyone talks in a whisper, but not because it’s respectful, no, it just feels wrong to speak normally. Like the walls might be listening, like if you talk too loud, something worse might happen, even the loud people get quiet in hospitals.

⊹ Overnight stays are hell. hospital chairs? medieval torture devices with upholstery. even if someone’s trying to nap next to a patient, they’re not sleeping. They’re half-listening to the symphony of beeping machines, nurse shoes squeaking, the occasional cough, and distant Code Something crackling over the intercom. it’s anxiety with a blanket.

⊹ The smell is unforgettable, like it’s not just antiseptic. it’s plastic and cafeteria meatloaf and sweat and fear and the smell of a place where people are very much not okay. the first time your character walks in, it’ll hit them like a wall. later, they might not even notice, or maybe it’s the only thing they can smell for days after.

⊹ Talking to doctors is a weird performance. You're trying to be calm, they’re trying to be calm. But no one is calm, your character wants to ask 47 questions and not sound desperate. The doctor explains things like they’re narrating a science video, and when they leave, someone will immediately go “wait... we forgot to ask” every. single. time.

⊹ Monitors beep constantly. half the time, it’s nothing. A wire got loose, someone rolled over. But the second it is something, the vibe shifts fast. Nurses appear like ghosts, machines start going off, and everyone starts moving. And your character? they might freeze, or panic, or forget they have lungs. Go with whatever makes sense for them, but make it visceral.

⊹ Time goes full funhouse mirror. Ten minutes waiting for test results feels like a year. A full hour stretches into eternity, meanwhile, three hours can pass without anyone realizing it. You can use this in your pacing, make it drag when the waiting is unbearable.

⊹ Hospital cafeteria food: Garbage. It’s either offensively bland or stupidly overpriced. The grilled cheese is six dollars and tastes like regret, and someone will 100% cry into a cold sandwich at 3am, because grief doesn’t care where you are.

⊹ People start fixating on tiny, random things. They can’t control the big stuff, so their brain zeroes in on a sock slipping off, a crooked IV pole, the repetitive drip-drip-drip of medication. Let them obsess over something small, it’s how the brain copes with being completely powerless...

In DAV, what languages do Luke and Leia speak? And which ones are their first ones?

Luke speaks Amatakka, Huttese, and Basic fluently. He’s also fairly conversational in Ryl and Rodian, and he understands Binary. He grew up speaking Amatakka and Basic in equal measures (Aunt Beru spoke with him mainly in Amatakka, Uncle Owen mainly in Basic), and picked up Huttese very early. Huttese is a necessary language on Tatooine, but still a second language for Luke, and for the freeborn son of a slave, that’s a point of pride.

Leia’s first language is Alda. She’s also fluent in Basic, Chandrilan, Sullustan, Huttese, and Nubaé(the language of Naboo). Chandrilan and Sullustan are languages commonly in use in the Rebellion, and Leia picked up Huttese as a child because she thought it would be useful. (Her parents were a bit worried about this, since Huttese is primarily spoken on the Outer Rim and along the slaving routes.) Breha insisted that her daughter learn Nubaé, ostensibly because it was the Emperor’s native language and might give her some insight into him, but really because it was her birth mother’s native language (although, of course, Leia doesn’t know that yet).

Everyone in Star Wars is multilingual.

I don't know who needs to hear this, but when you start nitpicking the metaphor, neurotypical people interpret it as you disagreeing with the point that they're making. If someone says "there's no more reason to do that to a child than there'd be reason to do that to a horse", and you go "actually, in extremely rare singular case circumstances, it's okay to do that to a horse", they assume that you also mean that there are extremely rare singular case circumstances where you think it' be ok to do that to a child.

They interpret you nitpicking the way they worded what they say as you disagreeing with what they're saying.

It does bother me when comics have Black Bolt speak perfectly when he is magically given the gift of speech. If you don't speak for a few days, your voice begins to get croaky and tired, because the muscles in your vocal cords aren't being used. Blackagar wouldn't have spoken for months, years, if not more at a time, only ever saying single words, and you're telling me he's ready to speak at a moments notice?? Nope. Nuh uh. And obviously there's the inherent ableism inherent to making Black Bolt speak but we understand that implicitly so no need to get into it.

I know that canonically Fire Nation weddings have a more Korean influence, But I like to think that places like the Ember Islands respond to more Thai traditions. And in honor of that we have these suits.
