(grabs you by the shoulders) you have to make room for new experiences in your life. you have to go through the unpleasant work of leaving your comfort zone, even if just for a few minutes at a time. because if you don't, your brain will trick you into stagnation. you will start to believe that the world can barely fit you in it. but that's not true. it's the opposite way around. you can fit the whole word inside of you. your task is only this: to welcome it with open arms

I don’t know who needs to hear this but grief is so much more than just something you experience when someone dies. it’s okay to grief opportunities and time lost. people you used to know. people you used to be. relationships. ways of living. places. your childhood. you can feel grief over so many things and it’s okay and real and seeking help is okay too, you’re not being disrespectful.

obsessed with mass market paperbacks. their pleasing rectangular proportions. how they fit badly in a hoodie pocket so you can drag them around everywhere with you like a temporary little buddy. the way they fit in your hand because they're MADE for human hands and not as bookshelf decoration. the way the pages feel when you riffle them gently with your thumb. How pristine and crisp they look when you get them and how creased and folded they look when you're done, even if you try to be nice to them. how that wear is okay, how that's correct actually, because they're made with the philosophy that books aren't meant to be PRETTY, they're meant to be read. that little ripple new ones get on the left side from where you hold them when you're reading, the way the ripple only goes as far as you've read, because u change stories by reading as they are changing you. how you can find thousands of these creased and folded and loved little dudes in every thrift store and used book shop and neighborhood library and you can instantly see the ones that someone carried around in a backpack for weeks or read to pieces or gave up on halfway through because they wear being read like fresh snow wears footprints. I love these poorly made, subpar little rectangles so much. truly the people's books.

Got a terf in my sideblog and the reply is not worth deigning with a response but the pinned post?
This? This is a trap. This is concern baiting. Be very sure that shit like this is not in your best interest and does not care about you. The goal of rhetoric like this is conversion.
You’ll be welcomed and asked to ignore transphobia. You will be asked to side with transphobes at the expense of trans women. Eventually, you’ll be asked to see that, hey, maybe you transitioned to escape how terrible it is to be a woman?
This may seem obviously a trap but I see people every day buy into this. People like this do not care about you! They want to “rescue” you and don’t let them convince you otherwise.

Women's healthcare decisions are deeply personal and should be made exclusively between a woman and her doctor. Every woman deserves the right to make informed choices about her body and health, free from political interference or societal pressure. Trusting women to make the best decisions for themselves and their families is fundamental to their autonomy, dignity, and well-being.

His honest heart would feel so much
— James Morland, on John Thorpe in his letter to Catherine, informing her of the broken engagement.
Now, the thing is: I think James isn't saying here that Thorpe is truthful. And neither does this line imply that James thinks Thorpe always tells the truth and never lies.
Which would be weird. Considering that James himself, a few chapters earlier, admitted quite freely that Thorpe is a bit of a rattle.
“He is as good-natured a fellow as ever lived; a little of a rattle;
So he's well aware that Thorpe occasionally (well..) speaks too loudly, too much and with not enough substance to his words. A man who talks to entertain, and does so eagerly, foregoing the thinking part that ought to come beforehand.
I mean, we even see James contradict and correct John when he knows his friend strays from the truth. It's the motive on which he errs, not the action itself. But this is not about what Thorpe says. It's about what he feels.
So what he means with "his honest heart" is not that he believes Thorpe to be always truthful. He believes him to be sincere in his feelings and a man of upright morals, someone who would be both wounded and disgusted by the duplicity of his sister, her apparent lack of principle, and the loss of a friend. James merely states he believes Thorpe to be a man of feeling and honour, someone who is true, as in staunch, where his heart once is attached. Which, still wrong, but then, Thorpe, so far, has not given him reason to believe him cruel or dishonourable or inconstant. That'll come later.

the thing i just don't get about the whole "buffy should be alone" thing is that her most consistent internal struggle throughout the show is a sense of perpetual loneliness due to her position as the slayer. like, her being 16 and forced into duty that she's not able to step away from. and when the show transitions from being about growing up to living in adulthood, the biggest thing that stays with her is this sense of perpetual loneliness.
and the way that "a woman should not be defined by the men she's involved with" associates to "women aren't deserving of support systems" is so,,, fucked up. that faux-feminist idea that women having independence is more important than women being involved in community (and the way the scoobies, including spike, initially form such a "it takes a village" approach to raising dawn) does such a disservice to what i feel the strengths of the show are.
and come ON! buffy holds her own both narratively and in the story of the show. she's never a character who's traits are changed or defined based on who surrounds her. while i certainly have criticisms of the writing of the show, buffy is such a consistently well-drawn character. but she is affected by the people in her life at any given moment. in the way any good character should be.
anyways let my girl be happy with a man who's able to see her in both her loneliness and her joy.
#btvs#the thing about buffy is that she is lonely and shouldn't be#and that's different from being romantically alone#but she deserves the world which includes romantic love for the majority of people#let her have everything
