it's on my to do list
i kinda want to carve in leaves too but idk whatlocal plant would be good for it
you know the most fun I had making scripts for my conlangs is improvising with a medium bc its silly fun and also gives you kind of a feel for how different writing tools would work without having to go and buy tools you'd never use again. In honor of that here's a list of mediums I tried to use for writing my conscripts, but they get more unhinged as time goes on
regular pen and paper - classic
watercolors - I didn't want to spend money on a calligraphy brush and this felt like a decent approximation
MS paint - my beloved, likely not the best software for it tho
stick in dirt - if you haven't done it try it and leave random text to baffle any people who stumble on it
carving into a stick with a sharp rock - stone age classic, did it on a whim on a walk and it was the most fun ive had with any of my scripts
honorable mention: carving into small rocks with a nail - I only used it for making runestones
using a broken boxcuter blade with paints I made from wildflowers - i was bored
the same paints but with a brush I improvised from my own hair - no further comments

that's just what they speak in the feywild
i kinda love that idea, one of the langs (#french2) im working on rn is based on the idea of being so complex that you can say the same sentence to two people at the same time they could decipher completely different meanings dependant of their knowledge and ability to pick up on subtle clues. I'm also attempting to give it a slightly naturalistic feel so one of the way i want to accomplish the effect is that words do not lose meanings through semantic shift and that semantic shifts happen a lot. So a world overtime gains multiple meanings
Conlang idea:
A language that intentionally goes against the Grician maxims of conversation:
Be truthful, be relevant, be brief, and be clear.
So sentences in this language are intrinsically designed to deceive, move off topic, ramble and be ambiguous as the default.
This is not to say that you can’t tell the truth in this language. But listeners will assume that what is being said to them is designed to confuse and deceive.

i need to post more updates on my conlang but literally every single piece is so unfinished it feels wrong to share
and i am just supposed to admit that my conlangs don't come out perfectly fully formed? that they are mostly just collections of ideas I still haven't connected together? that I actually have no clue what I'm doing?
anyway I'll post about the almost 30 tones of sbt soon so look forward to that ig

Once you start thinking about humans as a species in a biome, it affects your entire way of looking at normal things.
The other day I referred to female morning joggers as an 'indicator species' in that if you see women jogging in the dark it means that the environment provides migration pathways (sidewalks, clear signs) and doesn't have any known predators of female morning joggers (guy with knife, bear, BigTruck, male morning joggers).
Though, I think that people consider framing humans as animals reacting to their environment as rude.

i still am working out a lot of things about this language so no words listed alongside yet
but the script I've been making is a syllabary and a lot of roots are monosyllabic which means a lot of symbols would correspond to a word on their own. so the logical development would be for this system to develop from a sort of logography
so without further ado here's a bunch of symbols and their meanings
Tumblr media
up first is water which I still haven't decided on the word for
Tumblr media
le - this means person or humanoid, it started out as a word for only the species of the speakers but the meaning has broadened
Tumblr media
this one doesn't have a syllable but it means hand
Tumblr media
eye
Tumblr media
li - bird
Tumblr media
small walking insect (although it kinda looks like a conifer so I might change the meaning)
Tumblr media
to hold (I dont know which syllable this will be, i know exactly which tone I'll use for this word tho)
Tumblr media
shu - strong wind
Tumblr media
mountains
Tumblr media
ngi - egg and n̥gi - birth
Tumblr media
ki - thorn
Tumblr media
broken
Tumblr media
bu from buzhu meaning small flying insect

Minerals formed by serpentinization include the serpentine group minerals (antigorite, lizardite,
lizardite is formed by serpentinization <- things said by a modern scientist and definitely not some kind of alchemist

conculture thoughts for SBT
since these creatures are ageless I think it would be interesting if they had a different view of relationships that reflects that. I'm not yet certain if it would be monogamous or polygamous (im leaning towards the second) but I'm thinking they generally would conceive of relationships as something inherently temporary and also something that never fully ends (this also applies to friendships), so a lot of their relationships would be on again off again depending on circumstances and feelings
idk if that makes much sense tbh

Proto BST phonology, phonotactics and notes on a writing system
Tumblr media
+ the trusty voiced labial-velar approximant (w)
Tumblr media
There's a vowel length distinction with long and short vowels, which evolved from vowel sequences that this lang has instead of diphthongs (or at least had, the proto-language is already losing some of them depending on tone). So sequences of two of the same vowel are basically the same as long vowels so those are gone almost immediately. But yea pairs that have i and u or ʊ become dipthongs while the fate of the other sequences I have not yet decided. Some with similar sounds will probably also turn into long vowels. Some might even stay as is. Anyway the syllable structure is: CV(C) Where the coda consonant is either a nasal or r
Also the writing system will be a syllabary with some additional modifiers that denote tone and the coda consonant (both optional) and maybe something like dakuten in japanese for syllables with consonants that split their allophones into separate phonemes. Some notes on evolution etc.
k and g, ʑ, ʐ and z are allophones but I kinda want to make z and g separate phonemes later
diphthongs will probably become a vowel-glide pair
r and ɾ become allophones almost immediatly
im still kinda terrible at phonetics and this language has some unique problems with evolution due to its speakers that ill get into later so I'm not sure what of this will even stay
stops become pre-aspirated at the beginning of a word

pro tip: make sure your conlang has enough diacritics to be entirely unreadable make abstract little faces in almost every word

okay imagine this: ideophony except with synethesia i kinda want to headcanon that the creatures im making this conlang for all have synaesthesia, which somehow translates to phoneme choice for words, also they'd be consistent in associations unlike what im aware is the case with humans with synaesthesia
this gives some fun ideas for example for poem types where youd only be able to use words of a certain color
