The discourse on Reddit about S6 Spuffy is wild because so much of it assumes that Buffy was powerless and preyed upon when in fact she had more power than she’s ever had in any relationship.

She initiates their first kiss(es) by chasing Spike down TWICE

She initiates their first sexual encounter

She initiates their second sexual encounter

Actually, aside from the balcony scene in Dead Things, Buffy on-screen initiates or is an equal player in all sexual encounters. She definitely dictates the terms of their relationship

She was always physically and emotionally in charge and the one time she wasn’t it was appallingly clear and had severe consequences

There’s a lot wrong with what happened in S6, but Buffy was not powerless or without agency, and it says a lot about what you think about women’s sexuality to insist she was.
