blah blah blah roo does a scar analysis

"devils field" like nice touch.

his coach yelling at him to get in the game in his first scar scene but when we explore his past in s105, his coach benched him to rest his knee - we can only believe that this is because he thinks his coach is upset with him for not being in the game and/or needing the rest, even if he called for it. wally agreeing with him when his mom continuously fights him and even threatens to talk to coach. telling him to "make her proud" and saying he can "rest when he's dead" is so much. them having a tiff before he died right on that field also? ouch. it honestly proves to me just how much wally depend(ed)s on the opinion of others, the need to "do right" by them even if it sends him to his death.

sorry i fear i dont know anything about football. but it looks like the game is almost out of time - just like wally on the field. and also who made this design choice for the scoreboard because i've asked three people now and why are they telling me it's milliseconds. i don't know sports but it seems silly.

and also. seeing his own death, after talking about how it was just "lights out"? traumatic as hell. a lot to process after that, and frankly, i think even after that - after he became a ghost, it took a long time for him to even go back onto the field his memorial is on. a constant reminder of the things he's lost: his team the win, the scholarship his mother wanted him to have so badly, and maybe most importantly, his mothers pride. while the scars may exarate the severity of their events in death, it really kind of shows just how wally sees it: the pain, the trauma, the spotlight on his failures.

but i think his second scar is particularly notable. why? well --

let's start here. in his previous scar and memory from 1x05, we were shown his mother as ... demanding, unrelentless. someone who wanted to see wally as he was in her eyes -- "a star", ver batim. but in these shots, we see something different. his mom actively grieving him - caring about him, even in her older age.

here's something interesting to me. he was born and died in september, but his death date is covered up when his birthdate isn't? interesting. the wiki says september 30th, but i don't know where they got that from or maybe i'm just dumb. but aha unle-

maddie. maddie maddie maddie maddie. this drives me bonkers in the most insane way. while she was nowhere to be seen in his previous scar just a few episodes further, i truly think he didn't think she would be able to leave -- hence why she wasn't there. but as they found out more information, the real slowly became real enough to the point that it was added to his scar. is this some sick joke to you, writers? youre breaking my heart. him caring so much about her -- about seeing her live and live a happy, full life now that she has the opportunity to? he's obviously going to have her take it. it's what she deserves --- she deserves to be happy, to be free and to do great things that he knows she can do. why would he be selfish enough to tell her to stay when it's so clear she has so much more life left to live? things to give to the world. that's why when she finally can run and return to her body, he gives her the go-ahead (not that she needed his approval .. but you know).

“Wally in season 1, in his scar we sort of are exposed to this, but this is a guy who’s really trying to please a lot of other people,” Nate explained. “He’s making a lot of decisions for the happiness of others. I think that’s such a beautiful thing sometimes, but it’s also really detrimental. One of my favorite parts of season 2 is in episode 7, Wally for maybe the first time in his life, or afterlife, says what he wants: he wants [Maddie] to stay.”

this quote is so much.

siblings forever. something so special to me about how wally beat the fuck up out of that man, and rhonda pulls him back in a time of distress. that's real fuckin family man.i also think it's important in both charley and wally's scars, he leads the group through the doors (rhonda and quinn beat him just barely, which is symbolism to me.. but that's another post for another day...)

SPEAKING OF FAMILY. there's layers here. wally apologizing to charley about the way he was back during his time alive, and how much he's grown and changed in part to having known charley to charley throwing him the football to score the game - a moment in my canon i specify is him finding peace within himself? yeah. yeah. yeah. walk with me here. something soooo special and important to me about charley and wally.

i can't tell anymore if the doors are the same but it would make sense as they lead into the school, but dawns door was different? as we saw in 2x06, it was a single door. makes me wonder if the doors are meant to be part of the area they died in. or maybe it's just a choice in the set design. interesting either way!

wally's door opening but him not going through it. well. aha. you see -- i don't know. typically, i'm pretty certain on these things having watched so much tv in my lifetime i feel like i could write a show. but with this show? i have no idea. we see him stepping moving towards the door - but it cuts off right as it looks like he's taking a step.

wally's scar now being mostly blue is interesting. like, yes, there's red, but it's not like it was before. there's actually only 2 places where there's red now, which is facing the school windows to the school. it makes me wonder if the red signifies death, hence why it's pointing at the school and no longer on the field pretty much at all? it's almost not coming from INSIDE the school as you can see below -- it's kind of like a beacon.

it probably means nothing. but alas. in comparison to his previous scar, it highlighted the points of contention: spotlight on him when he died, his mother in her chair at the game, the other players. signifies things he needs to heal from, something that strikes in his heart. maddie wearing red also is crazy .. the red symbolism.......

do i think wally crossed over? ah. well. i don't know for certain. there's a few reasons i think he wouldn't: 1, he said specifically he wouldn't without saying goodbye, and now that the group lost maddie - i don't think he'd do that to them to go without saying goodbye. i think he was in his scar to see maddie, or something akin to that. she's gone - she's not coming back, at least not in the way he had her - it's the only way he can see her now, even if it's detrimental to experience being in his scar again.

but on the other hand .. wally has grown. a lot - we've seen it, he's said it explicitly. it'd be a good stopping point for the character. he finally got to do something selfish for once. do something he wanted, without the weight of carrying the team on his shoulders. he can finally relax (well. as much as he can?) and be happy - move on, to wherever there is next.

i'm scared i don't want to wait 2 years for another season. i know i'll be thinking so much the entire time ican't keep making posts like this paramount do you hear me

Wally came up with this, makes us do it at every reunion.

HIS  NOSE  SCRUNCHES  IN  THE  USUAL  WAY.         rhonda  calls  it  his  tell.  there's  something  he  doesn't  like,  doesn't  agree  with,  all  of  the  doesn'ts.  a  terrible  liar,  wearing  his  heart  of  his  sleeve  and  ripping  it  out  to  any  passer-by  who  might  want  it.  wally  knows  better  than  to  push  for  answers,  though  the  hovering  remains.  there's  something  to  be  said  about  the  lack  of  personal  space  with  all  of  the  ghosts  that  he  can't  seem  to  get  a  grip  on,  what  is  considered  normal  or  not.  “are  you  sure?”  brows  knit,  as  if  he's  thinking  really  hard  about  the  right  thing  to  say.  something  not  to  scar  her  off  —  approach  like  a  stray  kitten,  or  a  baby  deer.  that  seems  about  right. 

the  hand  helps  as  a  mental  barrier  to  keep  his  distance,  wally  standing  back  enough  that  he  isn't  breathing  down  her  neck.  teeth  dig  into  his  bottom  lip,  arms  crossed  as  he  watches.  and  watches.  and  watches.  moments  of  silence  while  elly  processes.  as  many  questions  as  he  has  about  ..  it  all,  there's  a  time  and  place  (  rhonda  in  his  head  again  –  since  when  she  did  become  his  social  conscious?  )  for  all  that.  now  is  not  the  time.  “do  you  want  to  talk  about  it?”  a  perpetual  olive  branch  –  for  acceptance  or  denial.  the  ball  is  in  elly's  metaphoric  endzone.  “i'm  not  good  with  words,  but  …”

✧. "I'M OKAY," Elly said like a band-aid to any conversation she ever had. Even when it wasn't true, she knew things eventually would even out again until she was okay again. But after that... She wasn't so sure. Seeing her scar was nothing she could've prepared herself for. The white of her eyes still held all the horrors she witnessed, without diminishing even after she made it out.

"You can stop hovering," she held out a hand to put distance between her friend and any of the others that might show up. In the worst moments of being in the scar, she wanted to call for her friends, to have their presence console her. At the same time she couldn't bear letting them see her like that. Dead. Helpless. She crossed her arms now feeling the coldness that the experience left her with.
