In an area like this? To think they’d chance to land in Duscae without announcing themselves to Nifelheim.... well, no. Odds are, they wouldn’t....

    He wasn’t paying attention to his phone at all. In the momentary silence, Noctis was mindlessly flitting through screen after useless screen. No, he wasn’t playing a game, but he certainly didn’t have any course or direction to what he was doing. Was this the music app? Well he didn’t want that, so close, move to another one- just something to occupy his hands while he ignored how uncomfortable he had made the room. Or at least how he perceived the room...

    The mindless flicking stopped when Ignis started speaking, and his eyes shot up from the device to watch the other. Failure, loss... Noctis’s expression flit from interested to almost sour. Leave it to Ignis to sound intense and pragmatic at all times. Seriously, did he always have to be profound? If only his friend could be scared of normal stuff, like squirrels or wet paper ( .... he knew people, guys... ). Or at least if he could only be scared of things that Noctis, too, wasn’t scared of. Things that he couldn’t help with because he, too, felt their pressure, like Ignis said, at all times, every day. They were a heavy mantle donned on each of them; each of them could recognize their weight, but none could discuss it. If they screwed up...

    Desperate to do away with the thick tension ( at least, what Noctis saw as... ), he waved a hand, relaxing back down into the bed and saying, “You’re not getting out of this that easily. Not goin’ anywhere.” He grinned, a wicked, crooked thing. “Unless you poison me, you’re probably gonna have to cook until I screw up and ‘m not around anymore.” It was a more roundabout way of saying that he couldn’t perceive a time that he would outgrow or move beyond Ignis; there wasn’t a time he wanted to. Who, after all, would want to outgrow or leave behind their dear friend? Whether by decree or by choice, Noctis would rather have Ignis with him. That was just fact. But it was a lot easier to consign the advisor to chef than expose how sincerely he meant his words: you’re not leaving. I’ll need you. If anything, I’ll leave you.

      “They are not wrong.” Ignis nodded his head slowly, “But it can also bring you down if you are not careful with it. People who lack courage cannot overcome their fears.” He attempted to explain, furrowing his eyebrows together in thought. “But if you let those fears take hold of you to the point where you cannot make rash decisions…” Ignis hesitated, shaking his head. “You no longer are in control.”

       Leaning back against the seat, Ignis spared a glance at the prince with a frown. He didn’t know what caused Noctis to bring this up so suddenly and was a bit curious himself. A smile played on his lips as Noctis spoke up again. The concern the younger male had for him was apparent even if his words were not as straightforward. Ignis knew Nocts well enough to know when he wasn’t able to find the right words. Perhaps Ignis should reward him in some way for actually speaking up about his concerns.

     Taking a deep breath, Ignis released it slowly, turning his attention to the papers in his lap. Without looking up he spoke slowly, “I fear failure. If I fail, I will not be able to stay by your side as I wish to.” He closed his eyes, trying to keep his hands steady. Ignis never confided in others about his concerns. “I fear loss. I do not know what I would do if I couldn’t save someone I cared for.” His lips formed a straight line, “I fear that one day you will not need me by your side and I will be left behind.”

    Staying silent he flips through the papers, pretending to read through them, yet the words weren’t filtering through his head. “My fears are not tangible, yet they stay with me every day.”
