I hope I did not come across as an Overlord the anime hater, I was introduced to the series via randomly watching the anime at 4AM once, it's an enjoyable show! but you are so damn right (also holy shit I forgot Gigguk even existed until you reminded me) Albedo truly is the backbone of Nazarick, her tiddies are holding the whole franchise above water...

the anime is frustrating to say the least, I'm at the Lizardman arc currently, and it's truly one of the (many) shining examples of how much the anime has to rush through the LNs. the scene where Rororo charges full speed at the attacking lich, tanking fireballs as it does, is accompanied by emotional music, you're supposed to feel for this brave selfless beast.... and yet? I think Rororo's name is mentioned like twice up to this point, we may have gotten some info on the bond between Zaryusu and Rororo, but honestly I have forgotten if that was the case. the LN did not have this problem, we spend the majority of the volume getting to understand the Lizardmen, and what's more, this scene in the LN is actually impactful- Rororo doesn't put it's life on the line as a trained beast, it sees itself as a deformed failure of a Lizardman, using it's one good asset (it's giant body) to guard and guide it's own flesh and blood in battle meanwhile in the anime you get some guy's ugly cgi lizard-horse getting fireblasted for a few seconds while "plz feel something" music plays this is what makes Overlord so hard to recommend to people, because the anime does not do it even a fraction of justice, it is a fun show but it's not the real Overlord experience

honestly after having this "Oh! The anime barely scratches the surface of the actual story!" experience both with Overlord and Youjo Senki (to varying degrees, I think Youjo Senki's anime adaptation, while different from the LNs, is a much better show than Overlord the anime) I'm honestly starting to worry about how much I have missed out on by being an anime only for some shows! ahhhhh if only reading didn't take up so much time...

actually the whole first season is weird, especially the part with Nfirea almost immediately clocking that Ainz = Momon and staying alive, he'd get killed so fucking fast if this happened in any point later in the series

Are there any overlord fanfictions you like?

Unfortunately I'm not much of a fanfic reader. A big flaw of mine is that I get easily frustrated with fanfiction, in most cases it's that I dislike the premise, but usually it's simply that the characterization does not match up with my understanding of the characters. It's stupid, I know, but it has been a persistent issue with every single piece of media I have ever been interested in. Sorry that this ended up being the response. I'm probably the worst person to ask about fanfic :,) I DO NOT HATE FANFICTION BY THE WAY I AM NOT A FANFIC HATER I ENCOURAGE PEOPLE TO WRITE FICS AND I WILL DEFEND FANFIC WRITERS WITH MY LIFE I'M JUST A STUCK UP HARD TO PLEASE LITTLE FREAK
