I think a lot of authors have noticed this lately: Likes, comments, reblogs with reviews... everything seems to be getting quieter. Stories go on, chapters come out, but all too often, it's a great silent nothingness that greets them.
Are we at fault, or is it something else? Yet you're there, we can see you raising the view counters on our demos.
I'm not here to lecture or beg for anything. I'd just like to understand, as many other authors do, why ? Because this statement is the result of a growing concern? Depression?among our ranks. To the degree that some of us have come to say: What's the point?
I'd just like to remind you of one thing: a story is alive, yes, but ! It's alive thanks to you, not just to us.
Every word you read, every emotion you feel, every theory you silently formulate: it's all part of the magic of a story, and it needs to be shared. When you share it all, a comment, a reblog with a fews words, even a brief reaction, that's when it really comes together, you're blowing on the story's flame! You fuel it, make it tangible. You give it a life that an author, alone in front of their screen, can't always sustain over time. Believe me, we try... Some are more gifted than others, but I'm all for helping each other.
Because yes, we write out of passion, out of desire, out of need. Yes, we love our worlds. But the impetus, the joy, the motivation, the feeling of really being read, all that is also born from exchange.
So here it is, just a quick note to say that if you like or don't like something, please say so. No need for a big dissertation but there's nothing worse than silence, it's the great reaper of our aspirations and I don't want to let it win.
And to my author friends: you're not alone. 💙

Why would I comment on the other things when I haven’t read the book nor watched the musical? My only frame of reference is the first movie, its soundtrack and what my friends who have seen the show say happens, so I cannot engage with your criticism of the movie production in good faith but I can engage with your comment about Elphaba wearing pants on how costuming would be changed for the movie with more stunts and the actress’ contribution. I’m not here to change your mind or speak on the inherent evil of capitalism, I simply tried to give another perspective on one gripe you had.
FACTS!!!! "A love letter to Wicked" is crazy. The only thing I would suggest, though, was have Norbert as Avaric. I was really hoping Fiyero would have that iconic entrance and say -what was it?- 'I won't last any longer at this school than I did the other ones.'', but I now understand why he had the horse. I liked that he could personally relate to the topic of talking animals and therefore was against them being discriminated. The part where he yelled "Hey!" after Dr. D was being taken away (or harshly yanked by his antlers) was a nice addition.
I actually think that giving him a Horse and giving Elphaba a Bear caretaker was one of the worst mistakes of the movie. It gives "I'm not racist, I was raised by a black servant who was almost part of the family" vibes.
What are they implying? That the only reason Elphaba and Fiyero care about the Animals is because they have a personal history with Animals that were good to them? Because I actually think that the original "they care because everyone should care, because Animals are people and you don't have to personally have witnessed them being good in order to be against their genocide" has a far bigger impact!
As for Avaric, I don't mind that they completely left him aside, because he's barely a character in the musical, and if you've read the book you know Fiyero already is Avaric (Act I Fiyero is like Avaric if he wasn't an asshole, that's why he's white, while Act II Fiyero is closer to his book counterpart, but still with some of the more scandalous traits from Avaric), and also I think NLB deserves a bigger role, being an OG, but I would cast either Aaron Tveit, Derek Klena or Jordan Litz as Avaric, if I had the chance.
(Item 11 of what I would have done - I would have Aaron and Derek singing a rendition of Popular (which Aaron already did) for the end credits, and when the name of whoever was playing Fiyero appeared it would go like this: they sing "and even in your case-" name appears "-though it's the toughest case we've yet to face..." as a little joke, because they're two of the most popular Fiyeros ever and he would be a complete newcomer to the industry, who people don't know yet, but now they will.)
Fiyero was always the one who took action to save the Lion Cub first, and depending on who plays him on stage he also acts distressed when Dr. Dillamond is being taken away (NLB did so first, and many followed), so the movie didn't really do anything new here.
"A love letter to Wicked" could only be written by people who actually understand it. Winnie Holzman wrote the script, and Part I didn't actually change anything, but as we already know from the trailer Part II is going to be a lot different, and I don't know how much we can trust her, because although she understands Wicked perfectly (she wrote the original show, after all) she has to work with what the director and producers (who didn't understand shit of Wicked) want, so her hands are tied (no wonder screenwriters go on strike so often).
Another trope I noticed they're bringing in to this movie is the performative liberal feminist idea that "feminism is when female characters wear pants" by making Elphaba wear pants 🥱. Wicked was already very feminist, even if it's a product of its time, but tell me how a male director, male producers and a male costume designer made such a "revolutionary" decision when they took Pfannee, a female character that came from the books to the stage (who I ship Glinda with), and not only turned her into a man, but that man is BOWEN YANG?!?!? Arrest everyone involved with that decision!
The original is so real, so raw, so painful and yet so beautiful. This movie is performative capitalism at its finest! What a shame!

✦ MEL MEDARDA APPRECIATION WEEK ✦
For weeks now there have been rumors about an appreciation week for the scion of the illustrious Medarda House. We are glad to be the first to report on the good news in this year's 1st Mel Issue: yes, there will indeed be an appreciation week for the ever-enigmatic Mel Medarda.
From August 21st to 28th, a full week will be devoted to creating fanwork for the former council member, interacting with the community of people appreciating the recent Medarda successor, and perhaps even finding new reasons to hold space for even more love for her.
As this will be a Mel Medarda appreciation week — also known as fanweek — the sole focus will be on dedicating love, time and creativity to this character only.
If this article has sparked your interest, be sure to follow us on your preferred platform, bookmark this carrd and highlight August 21st to 28th in your calendar.

You can participate both by creating for this week inspired by the set of prompts we offer — or by supporting creators and their content by leaving words of encouragement, reposting works you feel passionate about, as well as kudo-ing and liking.
There is no minimum requirement to appreciating Mel Medarda. You can create for all prompts or just those that inspire you. There is no "too much" and no "too little". We cherish everything Mel you decide to share with us. Which you can do by e.g. writing fanfiction, painting or sketching fanart (traditionally, digitally or both), creating edits and gifsets of any kind, cosplaying as Mel or all of the above.
Participation is greatly encouraged. There are no criteria to be met. Any and all contributions are welcome. Let your creativity run free and celebrate the luminous Mel Medarda with us!
To have your work showcased on our social media accounts you will have to tag us #MelWeek2025 on Bluesky, Tumblr or Twitter. It should be noted that we do not share works that do not conform to our rules.

I’m not touching everything else but pants make sense for: sleeping outside, flying as frequently as Elphie seems to do in WFG and generally getting up to what she does😭
You can complain about capitalism, that’s your prerogative but you have to acknowledge pants just make more sense for her prominent ‘wicked witch’ costuming in this film.
Also the fact that Cynthia could’ve just wanted pants for Elphaba since she was already so involved in her makeup, hair and broom design
