Déjame sueltas las manos

DÉJAME sueltas las manos y el corazón, déjame libre! Deja que mis dedos corran por los caminos de tu cuerpo. La pasión —sangre, fuego, besos— me incendia a llamaradas trémulas. Ay, tú no sabes lo que es esto! Es la tempestad de mis sentidos doblegando la selva sensible de mis nervios. Es la carne que grita con sus ardientes lenguas! Es el incendio! Y estás aquí, mujer, como un madero intacto ahora que vuela toda mi vida hecha cenizas hacia tu cuerpo lleno, como la noche, de astros! Déjame libre las manos y el corazón, déjame libre! Yo sólo te deseo, yo sólo te deseo! No es amor, es deseo que se agosta y se extingue, es precipitación de furias, acercamiento de lo imposible, pero estás tú, estás para dármelo todo, y a darme lo que tienes a la tierra viniste— como yo para contenerte, y desearte, y recibirte!

Este poema se trata de estar en un estado completamente tranquillo. Este poema es no solamente para las parejas enamorados pero para cualquier persona que ha sentido un instante atracción o conexión con a una persona. Sea solamente una mirada con un desconocido o con alguien que penas conoces. O con alguien que has conocido por mucho tiempo y has establecido una profunda amistad o relación con ellos. Este poema se trata de la vulnerabilidad. Se trata del acto de amor entre dos personas. Es un acto íntimo que se dejan uno al otro completamente vulnerables. Es lo que quiere decir con – “déjame suelta….” – es de que se estar totalmente desnudos no solamente físicamente pero emocionalmente. Es la liberación de cualquier precauciones y es estar exponiéndose un al otro en un nivel de confianza más intima.

Los temas del poema Déjame Sueltas las Manos por Pablo Neruda son el amor, la lujuria, la libertad física y mental y la atracción física. Este poema es un ejemplo de lo cual Neruda es conocido como un poeta de amor. Este poema como muchos otros son muy eróticos y sensuales.

La voz poética es Neruda a su amante. Se trata del poder de la lujuria y el deseo. Para describirlo Neruda utiliza palabras como; “sangre, fuego, besos,” “incendio” y “ardientes” para describir la pasión entre dos personas. Estas palabras son asociadas con el color rojo que simboliza el amor. También personifica el cuerpo y el deseo sexual. Le da un voz, “Es la carne que grita con sus ardientes lenguas!” Utiliza los sentidos, el tacto, audición y vista en su poema para crear un imagen finalmente diciendo, “Es el incendio!” para describir su cuerpo y el acto de amor. También usa un símil para describir a su amante “como un madero intacto ahora que vuela toda mi vida hecha ceniza hacia tu cuerpo lleno.” Esto puede ser un símil de cómo se siente después de haber llegado a su clímax. Ya ha usado todo su energía en ella y ahora es como “la calma después de una tormenta.” Se siente satisfecho pero gastado como un fuego que se apaga.

En este poema no solamente quiere hacer el amor, sino también ser emocionalmente involucrado en lo cual dice “Déjame sueltas las manos y el corazón, déjame libre!” Está hablando de la magia de estar enamorado y hacer a la vez. Neruda usa las imágenes dando detalles y es muy descriptivo. Por ejemplo, “Deja que mis dedos corran por los caminos de tu cuerpo.” Usa la repetición con las palabras “Déjame libre/sueltas las manos y el Corazón, déjame libre!” y esto refuerza el tema de la expresión sexual y de tener la libertad para hacer lo que le plazca.

Confesión #1: A mi normalmente no me gusta la poesía, a veces siento que lo analizó demasiado y me equivoco. Sin embargo, realmente he disfrutado los poemas que he leído de Pablo Neruda. Como en El Cartero, Neruda “es el poeta de amor y de la gente” y todos lo pueden desfrutar de su poesía.  A mi me encantan los poemas de amor de Neruda porque son llenos de pasión y emoción y las imágenes.

Yesterday was Steve Irwin’s birthday, and his memory was celebrated internationally. Steve was an incredible man who contributed a huge amount to public awareness about reptiles and who inspired a generation of conservationists. But on a day when he’s so heavily featured in the media, we also need to be able to acknowledge and discuss the problems his legacy has unintentionally caused.

Steve’s show popularized a way of interacting with wildlife that isn’t appropriate for non-professionals, and which is now considered unacceptable in most other situations. His fame came from the fact that he purposefully went out and, as we say on this blog, fucked with wildlife. As a trained animal professional, he was able to do that with a high standard for safety and with consideration for the welfare of the animals involved.

Unfortunately, because the planning and welfare concerns involved in filming the show weren’t visible to the public, one of the lasting impressions it left is that it’s fine to go mess with wild animals if you love them and know a bunch about them. Instances where people try to emulate his behavior are frequently responsible for injuries, deaths, and the displacement or euthanasia of the animals involved. Bothering wildlife simply for the pleasure of interacting with it personally is widely recognized as detrimental to welfare, but people frequently justify that it’s acceptable because their idol acted similarly.

Had Steve Irwin lived, I fully believe he would have changed his practices with the times. I’m sure he’d be appalled by the people who go pet / purposefully get injured by wildlife to show off or go viral online in his name. Animal Planet just picked up a new show with an host who is famous for utterly inappropriate interactions with wild animals - getting hurt by them on purpose, or “conveniently” finding tame individuals that will snuggle with him on camera - and it’s being marketed as being inspired by Steve. I can only imagine how much he’d hate to see someone who purports to emulate him teaching public it’s acceptable to disrespect wildlife that way. He was always in it for the value of educating people about how incredible the animals on his show were, not for the personal glory of getting to interact with them.

But the thing is, he didn’t live. And so, with his death, he was canonized as a saint to the people who idolized him when he was alive. That’s left no room for anyone to discuss the other effects of his work and his TV show - because it’s normal for people to get mad when their heroes are criticized posthumously.

The problem is that we need to be able to have that conversation. The fact that people feel entitled to interact with / befriend / tame wild animals - even very dangerous ones - is a well known problem that viral videos are responsible for exacerbating. Any animal professional who interfaces with the public is familiar with how much effort is put into begging and cajoling the public to just leave wildlife alone.

A big part of being able to change the public perception of appropriate interactions with animals is understanding the cultural forces that influence their current actions. We can absolutely love the work Steve did and still remember what a wonderful person he was, while also acknowledging how his influence has shaped a lot of the harmful ways people currently interact with wild animals.
