This will be the base of my prototype for my dress up game! I followed a series of tutorials on YouTube from Blackthornprod. The 3D models in here are just placeholders I threw together so I could focus on learning the coding.
After working on this, I’m starting to see what’s possible and what I need to further look into but I’m going to settle for most of what I’ve learned here because coding is :/ For the rest of the semester I’ll be focusing on modelling my character and a basic dress to select.

I’m currently redoing my character designs as I felt they weren’t stylized enough and were kind of boring to look at, so I decided to make another mood board dedicated to character designs and break down what I liked about them in order to assist creating my own. I also feel that having simple designs will not only be easier to model, but stand out more.
- Most are 90′s nostalgia and fashion oriented - Pillowy lips - Legs for days (they take up 2/3 of the body in most of these designs) - Chonky feet to show off the shoes - Hair that takes up half the body - Eyes take up 1/3 the face

487 Editing Example
Since my project doesn’t rely on editing at all, I’ve chosen a clip from one of my favorite anime directors, Ikuhara Kunihiko from this episode of Revolutionary Girl Utena. This show has a plethora of stunning metaphorical visuals relating to adolescence and sexuality. I’ll just be going over the first 1 min and 30-ish seconds of this video.
This scene is repeated in every episode in the episode it was introduced, as the pink haired girl (the protagonist) battles someone in every episode. It reminded me of the travel montage shown in class in which the number of shots implied a long journey. Along with the very dramatic music, the amount of details in each shot indicates a very serious battle ahead. The character goes through a tunnel and a large staircase from far ahead is revealed with waterfalls coming down the sides as she gets closer to it. Then she has to walk through these curtains of water to see a gigantic rose above the entrance to the next area. She then has to walk past these tall white pillars to finally get the to elevator, which still takes time to get to her destination.
You also get the sense of the character going through this grand entrance and up the elevator as each shot either zooms in or pans up. There are also a lot of leading lines drawn either upwards or forward along with the upward spirals. The black space from the spirals provide a transition to the character gradually going up higher and higher. It also provides a nice transition for the purple haired girl with glasses to magically get dressed. Speaking of getting dressed, I particularly liked how the glasses character’s hands motions wraps around her own head, then to the protagonist, in which she then pulls outwards like a curtain to magically dress her.
Both characters are now dressed in their prince and rose bride attire with their silhouettes bordered by pink roses finally reaching the top of the elevator, then when they’re in color, pink rose petals explode throughout the scene. It ends with another shot panning upward along with the petals flying up.
There’s a lot of symbolism in this scene alone that I can’t decipher, but I do appreciate all the visuals that go into it!

Drafts for my character models
I’ve decided to do an elderly woman instead of a non-binary character after being inspired by size and age inclusive underwear brands and seeing a post of Vera Wang’s bod at 70! I’m likely to redo the second character’s design

Story Spline #5
The result after discussing the story with my group :)
Once upon a time: There was someone (you the player!) with an eye for fashion who loved picking out outfits And everyday: Their friends had different insecurities about dressing up Until one day: The player reaches out to them to coordinate an outfit from their closet And because of that: The player is able to hone their skills while providing a service to their friends And because of that: Their friends love what they’ve chosen Until finally: The outfits served as inspiration for them to be comfortable in their own skin And since that day: The friends are happy and more confident, being able to choose outfits that represent their personalities And the moral of the story is: Sometimes you need a little push to get out of self doubt

First three are my moodboards and the last is my anti-moodboard
1. The feel of the game and inspiration for the user interface
2. The aesthetic of the game
3. K-pop idols definitely give me the same vibes as Bratz dolls in terms of their style on stage. I thought it would be fitting for a dress up game
4. What I’m trying to avoid s something too childish with creepy models and neon colors

Ideas + Reference Images
For my senior project, my plan is to build a short game in 3D with a focus in developing my skills in modelling and animating in Maya and Blender.
I’ve been stuck on two ideas:
1. An interactive storybook style game. This idea would likely require more animations as well as background elements to flesh out the scenes. Oh yeah and making more scenes. The art style would be Tim Burton inspired with a crossbreed of cuter elements.

2. A fashion game. I feel like this might relate more to my interests, since I love dressing up myself. This would be non story based and focused more on modelling assets with even more simplistic game play. I haven’t thought of the art style for this just yet since this idea is fresher in my mind. I don’t want it to be too childish.
