At the end of the year, pupils take the 'Year 7 Optional Test' or other similar exam which assesses understanding of the full mathematics, English and science. We provide opportunities for challenging and stretching our students in all core subject areas. Before joining our classes’, Initial free assessment is conducted to find out the current strength and weaknesses. Therefore, we could plan lesson effectively.

Mathematics Department follows the requirements of the National Curriculum in preparation for learning the new GCSE specifications and provides a curriculum to challenge and enthuse students in their learning of Mathematics.

In Year 7 English, students undertake work on selected, advertising texts, and the history of the English language. Students will also be encountering different genres of poetry through the year. Students can be helped to develop emotionally and intellectually through reading, and we encourage them to establish, from Year 7, a habit of regular and independent reading for pleasure. They are taught how to read for different purposes and to understand the way meanings are made

Assessment

Students are tested regularly (5-6 Weeks), and at their tutor's discretion, in order to allow us to monitor their progress.

GCSE:

Mathematics

We offer Higher Tier or Foundation Tier Linear Maths for students depending on their competency. Students are continuously assessed through regular progress tests to identify where they need improvement and coupled with their previous Maths knowledge they are taught on concepts and techniques to retain lifelong learning of Maths as well as getting through their exams. Our Maths pass rate is A*-C 100%.

English

We offer GCSE English which counts as a single GCSE. This is a linear course and Students are assessed at the end of the course, typically during the summer exam cycle. An additional assessment window may be available in November for retakes depending on the specification availability.
