*"human" body mods is referring to tongue splitting, permanent fang installation, elf ear surgery, gauges, an uncommon or more-than-average number of piercings and/or tattoos, etc. etc. that you did NOT get specifically to look/feel more like your nonhuman identity.
Feel free to share what you have or want on this post! I myself have snake bites, tattoos, and have recently started stretching my earlobes.

option explanations
fully feral: just like an animal you'd see in real life
mostly feral: has limited humanoid features. might have unnatural colors, can talk, might have opposable thumbs, etc.
somewhat anthropomorphic: very animalistic but might stand on two legs, such as a monstrous werewolf
very anthropomorphic: standard furry type of body. is fully bipedal, may have digitigrade or plantigrade legs. probably has to wear human clothes.
limited animal traits: a human with some animal traits, such as ears, tail, maybe a small snout. think of a kemonomimi.
completely human: just a human

hi! forgive me for bringing up an old post out of nowhere, moreso if youve already answered this question before (in which case feel free to just link your answer!) you made a really good post back in april explaining some alterhuman/nonhuman/etc labels and explaining some general facets of it like how it can develop involuntarily - in that post you say thar some people may experience being nonhuman physically or ancestrally and i was wondering what that means in this context? i hope this doesnt come across as rude or anything, im genuinely curious what this means and was hoping you could explain. thanks for taking the time to read either way. ❤️
Never feel bad for sending in questions. I’m always down to try my best at answering them when they’re sent in, but I cannot promise I know everything, and those that fall into these groups are welcome to chime in and correct me when needed!
To what you asked, in basic terms, it’s what it says on the tin. There are people who identify in a physical or ancestral way.
Some identify as their ‘types in all ways including physical. This may be due to the simple mindset of “this is my body, I am this thing, therefore this body is this thing’s body,” all the way to those who experience delusions that cause them to see themselves as physically their ‘type. It very much depends on the person and how they experience their nonhumaness. Some terms that refer to things like this are Holothere and Endel, but there are others!
Ancestral nonhumans are those who believe their nonhuman identity has been passed down through familial lineage. An example being some of the founders of the online Otherkin community who believed they were descended from Elves. I can’t say I know too much about this, but it again depends entirely on the individual as to how their family came to pass this down to their descendants — whether something like a curse, to it having always been that way.
While not the most informative, I hope this is a good start at finding information on these things, and I welcome anyone that falls into these groups to reblog and talk about their experiences.

Once again I mentioned nonhumanity on a completely unrelated Discord (this one isn't even furry so it's not even adjacent to nonhumanity in any way!) and several people chimed in out of nowhere to say, "Oh yeah, me too." None of them at all in any kind of therian/otherkin/alterhuman/nonhuman communities or anything, just people that would clock as normies about it, except nope they're not.
At this point I'm convinced the number of nonhumans outside the nonhuman communities is several orders of magnitude larger than the number of people inside and the most common way to experience it is totally casually, like an eye color. It's just another funny little thing about you, no big deal. A lot of them seem to feel that this approach makes them 'not really count' but nothing could be further from the truth. If casual nonhumanity is actually the norm like I'm starting to think, being super duper serial about it would make someone Nonhumans Georg, who spends 10000 hours a day dwelling on their identity and also they'd be an outlier who should therefore not be counted.
Except, obviously everyone counts if they say they do. But I think a lot more people could say they do without even breaking a sweat, if they wanted to.

you guys who are using "TikTok therians" to mean people who think being a therian is an aesthetic and not an actual nonhuman identity have forgotten the days when "tumblrkin" was the word of choice for that group, huh?
not to be salty but can we maybe say what we actually mean instead of calling an entire platform fakers for the sake of shorthand

Have you ever wondered how racial identity may factor into one’s alterhumanity?
I know I have, so I wrote an essay on identifying with one’s race as perceived in human society while being alterhuman and/or nonhuman.
I could never separate myself from my blackness simply because I am a draconic polymorph, but that does not make me any less of a draconic polymorph either.
I am Black, draconic and polymorphic, and each of these details hold great importance to my being. Race isn’t exclusive to just orthohumans, y’know!
You can read Alterhumanity in Color: Exploring Race Outside of Orthohumanity here!

Ooh, good luck, hummingbirds are awesome! Unfortunately there's not a whole lot of resources dedicated solely to heartedness that I'm aware of (anyone else know any?), but you might have some luck reading through some of the posts on https://theotherhearts.canadian-forum.com/
I've also wrote a couple of essays about being otherhearted awhile back [here] and [here]
Questioning a hummingbird hearttype but honestly I don’t feel I know enough about hearttypes yet to claim anything…
If anyone has any sources about being otherhearted let me know! It’s hard to parse out identity sometimes. I know my physical body, but my psychological/spiritual/heart identity is more foggy.
