i think transfem darry could be interesting if she was like, the sort of closeted where she's like "if i just join the football team and work with my hands and get into enough fights and do Boy Things good enough then my desire to be a woman will go away". and then it doesnt.

one of my pet peeves is when people simplify dally's love and protectiveness of johnny down to just seeing his younger self in him. like, yeah, there's a softness there that dally is trying to protect, but that's not all? he just genuinely loves and cares about johnny as a person, and johnny is more than just the personification of innocence to him (which also, what? that's such a one-dimensional read, can we stop woobifying johnny for 5 minutes). like, dally getting upset when johnny got jumped wasn't because johnny, like, lost some innocence, its because he got hurt and almost died? i dunno just it makes dally feel way more selfish if he's just trying to protect some version of himself and not just... caring about johnny because he's johnny.

like most of the bigger ships in the fandom (jally, pbj, stevepop) that have actual staying power are there because have at least some actual textual backing. which is why people ship them! and i hate all the handwringing trying to make those ships "problematic" when that's not the point.
like. i'm all for random creative ships, i think they can be fun, but you gotta go into it knowing its just for fun! i think what bothers me is people shipping things out of spite because they dislike a certain character, or anxiety over shipping something "problematic".
man i'm not tryna rain on anybody's parade but i hate the way the fandom is obsessed with shipping the most random nonsense ships just because theyre "unproblematic" over ships that actually make sense in the narrative or for the characters.

#fandom wank#delete later#also as an aside i hate when people say 'illegal ships' when they just mean like incest#because like babes its 1965 in canon being gay was illegal#which i know thats not what they mean#but like if you dont like incest or age gaps or whatever just say that.#god fandom puritanism drives me fucking nuuuuts

very annoyed with the uptick in dally hate lately. i swear people took the scene with cherry and ignored the entire rest of the story and his characterization? while also conveniently ignoring that the rest of the gang does the same shit as him just... slightly less.
#also like hes really important to the story and the message of the story#i can understand not liking him#i guess#but if you HATE him literally what are you doing here...

how different outsider ships argue HC's Masterpost
this is kinda niche but i have serious outsiders brainrot rn.
Sylvia & Dallas
they will argue anywhere.
have absolutely gotten into arguments in the street before.
don't get physically violent but Sylvia will DESTROY his belongings
he's had to stop leaving stuff at her house because she will deface it if they fight.cuts his shirts, throws his stuff out the window, the whole nine yards.
can and will get other people involved.
Will chat mad shit about each other but don’t you dare agree.
Because that’s Dally’s girl and don’t you forget it.
Same goes for Sylvia.
That’s her boyfriend.
Sylvia cries when she gets angry.
The first time she cried during an argument
Dally was alarmed.
Not just because he hates seeing her cry but also because what is he supposed to do?
Like does this mean he’s won? She still fighting him does he just continue???
Eventually admits this to her.
This isn't technically a fight hc but the first time Sylvia kisses him straight after a fight she goes to stroke his jaw and he flinches back a little and Sylvia has to leave the room so he doesn’t see her cry.
Dallas & Johnny
they don't argue often
but when they do it affects Dallas more than it does Johnny.
he feels bad for yelling at Johnny because he knows how much he get's yelled at at home.
usually buys him an apology Pepsi and they move on.
Dallas & Tim
they physically fight.
we know this.
Definitely make out mid fight
Strange people behaviour.
they help patch each other up afterwards.
but still.
they do bicker a lot too.
they're surprisingly petty.
Dallas & Soda
they also don't really argue.
because Soda is not a fan of confrontation.
what happens more often is Soda lets his emotions bottle up (no pun intended) and then has a slight breakdown.
and Dallas isn't the best at apologising so he calls Soda dramatic.
he gives Soda space and then when Soda's calmed down they talk about it.
Well Soda talks about it Dallas just nods and looks slightly moody because emotional vulnerability freaks him out.
Two-Bit & Kathy
oh Kathy my door-slamming diva.
her whole thing is having the last word.
she says her piece and then storms out.
Two-Bit can't take her seriously and a lot of the times she storms out because she REFUSES to let him see her laugh.
She calls him Mathews whenever they fight unless the fight is completely serious only then does she call him Keith.
he calls her Katherine during arguments.
because he finds it funny to see how annoyed it makes her.
they don't really make up.
Kathy just sort of silently comes back into the room and sits next to him until he puts his arm around her.
she's like a cat.
Soda & Sandy
they never fight
it's not because their relationship is super healthy.
it's because Soda once again hates confrontation and Sandy is terrified of losing him.
so they both just kind of passive-aggressively deal with their shit.
Soda never calls her by her name when he's mad at her.
he only calls her stuff like sweetheart or babe.
he calls her those things anyway, but usually, he says her name first, he'll say "Sandy sweetheart" instead of just sweetheart.
They're less affectionate when they're mad at each other.
they'll be around the gang and he'll go to kiss her and she'll turn her head so he gets her cheek instead of her mouth.
or they'll be hanging out with Steve and Evie and Sandy will rest her head on his shoulder and Soda will just leave her like that.
he won't try and put an arm around her or lean into her.
it's super awkward.
It never lasts long because they give in the moment the other brings it up.
Steve & Evie
they bicker like crazy.
never super serious but they're like an old married couple.
she calls him Steven.
and that's when he knows he's in deep shit.
because usually she calls him Stevie.
when they properly argue, Steve hates it.
Steve was beside himself the first time Evie stormed out during an argument.
he was so convinced she wasn't coming back.
he thought that she'd finally had enough and left just like his mom.
he's so scared that he's like his dad.
Evie knows this and does everything to make him know that he isn't.
always say they love each other before one of them leaves even when they're fighting because anything could happen.
they double down on it after Dally and Johnny die.
hug the moment they make up.
Steve & Soda
they don't argue much because of how well they know each other.
so when they do, it's hell.
Avoid the DX at all costs, it's a war zone.
do that thing where they talk to each other through other people.
do little things to piss each other off.
eventually make up.
playfight A LOT when they first make up and that's how everyone knows they're good.
Ponyboy & Johnny
completely ice each other out.
don't hang out one on one.
still hangout with the group.
still scarily in sync.
Johnny won't sleep over at the Curtis household if he gets kicked out.
he'll go straight to the Lot.
This usually stops their fight pretty fast because Ponyboy HATES the idea of Johnny out in the cold, potentially putting himself in danger for something as trivial as a fight.
not much changes when they make up.
just little things; the silence is less tense, they sit closer together.
they both look less stressed.
Ponyboy & Curly
they don't argue much at first.
sure they bicker like crazy, but Curly always shuts shit down before they get too serious.
Ponyboy hated this at first, because he thought Curly was coddling him and treating him like he was fragile.
until he witnessed the INSANITY which was a Shepherd argument.
he witnessed Angela and Curly fight once, ONCE and immediately realised just how wrong he was
because the Shepherds put Dallas and Sylvia to shame.
I hc that the Shepherds fight the way my family does, in the sense that the only reason these people can say the shit they do and still be around each other afterwards is because they have to live with each other.
the things they were saying to each other were VILE.
borderline egregious.
Ponyboy left that house feeling oddly flattered that Curly liked him enough to purposefully avoid those types of situations.
They do fight once, though properly.
It's the worst fight to date; they were saying horrific things to one another.
it happened because Pony accidentally called Curly Johnny. Again.
is Curly proud of the things he said in that argument? no.
Pony gave as good as he got, but when he goes low, Curly goes underground.
they didn't talk for a month and a half.
The only reason they started talking again was because Curly got jumped by five Socs in a Cadillac.
they got him real bad; he broke a couple ribs.
Ponyboy only found out because Darry ran into Tim.
went to the Shepherds' house immediately.
broke down when he saw him because he'd never seen Curly Shepherd look so small.
they make up pretty soon after that.
they don't argue too much after that.
until Ponyboy leaves for college and Curly doesn't go with him.
they do get back together after Pony graduates though.
because i NEED them to be happy.
Tim & Darry
they're too mature to have arguments
they have "disagreements"
avoid each other like the plague.
don't mention each other.
Go out of their way to not see each other.
it can go on for ages because they don't run in the same circles.
only stops when one of them needs something.
They act like a divorced couple.
Tim will come to Darry for extra manpower for a rumble.
and then they'll patch each other up after
they'll flirt a bit get back together and the cycle continues
that's all of them, there probably will be more random HC's because i can't be normal about this book.
