important hc questions: what does obscura like the most about the guardian? also, what do you think the first meeting between the two of them was like? did they hit it off right away or did it take time for them to warm up to each other?

(i’m answering this out of order so it flows)

have you ever seen two dogs meeting each other for the first time? where they’re standing stock-still, making eye contact with each other? tails wagging slightly, bodies tense as they decide if they want to play or fight? they know what their opinion is, but they don’t know what the other will do?

that’s what their first meeting was like. it was tense and still between them. both are creations of stefano, of course, and both have their loyalties to him, but otherwise they knew nothing about each other. all obscura knew was that she was here first. 

the guardian had her saw. obscura had her wires. there was occasional movement as though they were trying to circle each other, quick and sudden and stopping into stillness again. there were some silent threats with weapons, some flashing of metal to let their own danger be known; they also made low sounds at each other (obscura’s more a low sort of growl, while the guardian gave a threatening chuckle of sorts).

but the obscura snapped a picture, the guardian laughed, and the two got along quickly. there’s a lot in common between them, after all: their loyalty, their creation, their inability to verbally communicate.

maybe what’s most fun about the guardian to obscura is how brutally violent her kills are, and how fun those pictures are to take. (it’s even better when they work together, but then it’s harder to take a good picture.) she also loves her laugh and thinks she’s absolutely beautiful.

how was obscura created ?

i had to talk to toast about this one but:

obscura’s creation was brutal and painful, but not to her. she’s a metal frame of a skeleton surrounded by sculpted flesh. the frame came first when stefano had the idea, the concept of obscura. the camera was second, something treasured and valued. only once the bones were in place did the flesh begin to be laid on, each woman killed carefully selected to best contribute to what obscura would become, flesh ripped from real bones and molded over metal.

because stem is influenced by imagination, obscura became alive once the threshold of what stefano deemed complete was met, and she knew instantly that he was her creator and that she would do whatever it took to protect him. (she also knew instantly that she had a desire to create, and while the desire was just as violent as his, there was always something notably more pure about it coming from obscura.)

obscura facts while on break:

like stef, she has no concept of personal space!! she greatly enjoys physical contact, and if she likes you she has a tendency to stand over you because of how her body curves (her legs are technically behind you, but with the curve of her torso and her long neck, she ends up above you)

she's naturally drawn in by the grotesque and has no knowledge of conventional human standards of beauty. to her, the guardian is peak beauty, by any standard that should exist.

while she takes her own pictures of her own acts of violence, she also likes taking pictures of stefano after he's committed acts of violence. she likes how he looks all covered in blood! and that look of satisfaction in his eye after creating something he's proud of!

she has no way of communicating with words and has no desire to communicate with words. she likes the way she communicates with sounds alone.

if she's alone and/or bored, she might dance a bit, enjoying the graceful, near-weightless feeling of moving en pointe.
