I know I don't post here much, but I'm just popping in with my huge mom energy to say it's ok to avoid the news and negative social media if it's becoming too much and impacting your mental health.

It can feel like the world is burning right now, literally and metaphorically. Women and anyone in any marginalized community are afraid. That's valid. But you can't save the world alone. If you have a community of solidarity and support, that helps. But, if, like me, you're lying awake at night ruminating, turn it off.

This is going to be a hard week. Give yourself some grace and practice self care. (Or just play a lot of Animal Crossing and only get your news from Isabelle. That's my strategy.)

For your music requests, I'm a big fan of Half Alive! I feel like they're hitting their stride music-wise, and their music videos are always a blast if you're into that!

I've got a question for you: what is your go-to book recommendation for acquaintances? Is it your favorite book? or something different?

Ooh! I've never heard of them! Thanks for the rec. I don't really have a go-to book recommendation. I try to feel out what the other person has read and liked, and recommend something in that genre, if I know it, or something adjacent. What do you like to read, for example?

I've decided I really like Tumblr. (Don't worry, I won't tell the other Gen X.) But as someone who works in social media, it's super refreshing to use a social platform that is actually about interests and community and creativity and not just an ad platform with a few posts from friends and a lot of irrelevant junk thrown in. I've been using social media since its birth, and Tumblr feels the way it was when social media first appeared: fun. I did have a Tumblr blog in the early days, as did many of my friends, but I stopped using it years ago.

I still haven't had time to actually do much exploring and find folks to follow, but I will. On the other hand, no one has yelled at or insulted me yet, and that's not nothing.

The lie: @cat-identifier did not donate her hair to Locks of Love, although she'd have plenty left if she did. She practically cries when strands come out in her brush. The truths: When she was in 2nd grade, she saw a negative write-up about a book she liked in the NYT Book Review, got her sassy back up and wrote a rebuttal, which they published. This led to a very silly moment where, upon meeting her 4th grade teacher for the first time, he said "You're the one who was published in the New York Times!"

Also, she really does also drink soy sauce. Don't look at me. Not my fault. Maybe she has a sodium deficiency?

Oooh... I think my two favorites would be P&P and Persuasion. I've read Northanger Abbey, and am yet to read the others lol.

It's funny, Mansfield Park is my mom's least favorite one, therefore it is my least favorite one haha.

Ohhhh... you gotta ask the hard questions. I've read P&P the most often, but I have also read S&S many times, so maybe a tie there. Persuasion next, then Emma, then Mansfield Park. Northanger Abbey is a cool concept, but I don't think the writing is as strong.

Free Mom Hugs has come up a couple of times, so if you haven't heard of it, here's the deal. It is a national nonprofit supporting resources for LGBTQIA+ people. A great music artist is Jhariah! I'd definitely recommend his album Trust Ceremony (which can get a little confusing because one of the songs IN the album is also called Trust Ceremony, lol)
