Ok so I normally would never do something like this but I’m getting a little desperate now. I know I hardly ever do any personal posts, but I’ve been basically jobless for over a year. I’ve been graciously surviving by living with my parents, but I need to start making some sort of income. Job hunting is difficult enough as it is, but without a car my options are limited even more (and unfortunately I don’t live anywhere close to public transportation…). So, I guess I’m going to try to turn to my art to make even a tiny bit of income. My first goal is to get a scanner so I can upload higher quality pictures of my traditional art, and I’d also like to start doing digital again so I can do proper commissions someday soon. I’m still figuring out how Ko-Fi works, but any support (or even just advice on how to use it) would be greatly appreciated 🥲

I envy writers.

As an artist I can give you a snapshot into a world.

But a writer.

A writer can take you there.

They can weave together words and create a portal to anywhere. You can visit those places instead of looking out a window and wishing to be a part of it.

thinking about the scene where xie lian meets ghost fire hua cheng and learns about his beloved and how he tells hua cheng that his beloved might feel guilty or burdened if they know hua cheng remained in this world because of them so hua cheng swears to protect them in secret and never let them know the reason...

and now I can't stop thinking about how that is probably the reason why he came to xie lian in disguise 800 years later and didnt want to reveal their past connection or his feelings right up until xie lian figured it out himself in the cave of ten thousand gods. he really was just going to remain at his god's side, cherish him and protect him and take care of him for the rest of eternity just like he'd promised all those centuries ago if xie lian hadn't realised it huh 😭😭

Hong-er’s death is never touched upon in canon, which I think is an honest tragedy. It’s a common head-canon for people to believe that Hua Cheng died on the battle field, and while I also really like this head-canon, I have also been exploring different ideas.

For one, Hong-er really did leave the army after he was kicked out by Mu Qing. He didn’t know that Mu Qing wasn’t acting on Xie Lian’s orders, so it wasn’t like he had any reason to rebel against it. He only learns that Xie Lian didn’t mean to have him kicked out of the army after meeting him on the streets of Xianle during the first sighting of the human face disease. Even after that, he did not return to the army, but instead joined the effort of caring for those who were infected. The last we see of Hong-er is when Xie Lian visits the Palace of Xianle—the first temple ever built in his honor—before he returns to heaven. During which, Hong-er is fighting to defend the Palace of Xianle from a gang of men who had desecrated the temple. These men, mind you, were fully ready to bash Hong-er’s head in with a rock, and were only stopped when Xie Lian intervened.

All of this truly does make me think that there is a significant possibility that Hong-er’s final moments took place in one of Xie Lian’s shrines as he tried to defend it from an angry mob who wished to destroy it either near the end of the war or after it.
