"Uh, are you sure you're in the right place?"

As Kat looks on at the stranger, it couldn't be more obvious that she's incredibly unimpressed. She stands with folded arms and glares at him head-on, though the furrowing of her brow ruins the intimidation factor a little - as does the fact that she's clearly just a kid. It seems like maybe she's studying him, trying to get a read on him, but... she evidently doesn't like what she sees.

"This is a girl's school, you know. And I've never seen you around before."

"Really? I had no idea."

Kat isn't completely stupid - she knows that mouthing off too much to someone like Mustang could end up getting her in serious trouble. Still, 'used to getting your way?' Ugh, now that's annoying to hear. What a misconception - Kat never gets her way. That's why she has to go ahead and take what she wants anyway.

"I thought you military types wanted results? Well, I guess I could see why it'd be embarrassing that a young lass like me was braver than the lot of you when it came down to it." ...But despite knowing that getting sarcastic is a bad idea, it seems Kat can't help herself anyway. It's a little painful to think about what might be coming next, but it's too late to worry about it now.

"Sure, though, I got it. Won't happen again, Boss!"

MAKING A POKEMON VERSE FOR KAT RN... i've talked about her potential team here before but she's having a delcatty, a mismagius and a litwick at the very least for sure!

i'm tempted to have her have fallen into the pokemon world through an ultra wormhole from another dimension... maybe one where pokemon were either feared or thought to be myths?? but i might not go with that in the end, i'm not sure yet...

I WANT KAT TO BE A FRANKENSTEIN GIRLIE SO BAD............... like i think she'd actually hate victor as a character, lmao - she's definitely the type who'd get mad at him for whining and see him as a little bit pathetic. though i do think it'd be fun if she could relate to him a tiny bit, too... subconsciously seeing herself as causing trouble for everyone and relating to that, maybe?

but she'd love the horror and concept of the book itself, and maybe moreso respect it for being the first of it's kind. mind you, the creature wouldn't get any slack from her either! she'd sympathize with him, but as far as she's concerned, he's making excuses just as much as victor, lol.

Is she okay? ...Kat's still stuck on trying to process everything that just happened!!

Her heart still races with adrenaline from the experience, everything having happened so fast that she barely understood what was going on at all. When they jumped through the window, Kat had thought that that was the end for her! And yet here she is, still in one piece and standing stunned, wondering if perhaps the events of this evening have been some kind of wild dream.

Before she can think about it further, she finally register's Dark's question, and realizes he's waiting for an answer. And so she quickly responds-

"Who are you!?" Completely ignoring the question, Kat turns on him and instead demands an answer herself. "Are you- Dark? The Phantom Thief?"

She's only just learned about his existence, but Kat can't see any other possibility. Which, now that she thinks about it, is more than a little suspicious - especially when Daisuke is the one she'd been with up until now. They clearly have a connection... Kat wonders all at once if they're the same person, but when she thinks further, she can't figure out how he would've changed his appearance so quickly.

Though maybe something like that is a piece of cake for a famous Phantom Thief. She'll keep her suspicions to herself for now, but if Daisuke isn't the one who saved her, she can only hope he made it out alright...

"This is... one of the craziest nights of my life." Kat muses, still looking like she's trying to process the events of the evening. But then, a slightly dazed yet mischievous smile starts to sneak onto her face.

"That was- so cool. Trust me, that's not a compliment I give out often. Hey, are you really as famous as everyone says you are? Couldn't resist helping a girl in trouble like me, huh?"

forwards , left , forwards , left , the right was a dead-end that led to the outside ; if it were anyone else , they might have been feeling claustrophobic by now crawling about blindly in the dust-filled systems , but this was a boy who had long already marked and memorized everything from the locations of each museum window to its ventilation labyrinths on a stolen-away floor plan .

get into the security center , take one last peek at what might lay in store for him for the next night , get out safely --- it was only three simple steps , as simple as "steal a priceless work of art" was nothing more than one , at least once you ignored every other immediate obstacle and obstruction that got in the way .

likewise , cleverness had to go hand in hand with care , improvisation with meticulous plots and schemes ; it's why , finally , when he reaches the screen-filled room and spots his would-be accomplice revealed by just a fringe on the cameras , he winces --- thank god , her face wasn't revealed , but he nearly gasps as the stationed guard squints then flips every dire siren-alarm switch before rushing out of the room with a shout .

( no ... no --- ! ) daisuke's left helpless as the room empties : she was going to get caught ; they'd jail her at this rate ! ( wouldn't they both get jailed ?! their faces would be all over the cameras the instant they made a break for it ! ) --- unless ... ?

a firm kick sends the grating of the vent clattering onto the ground . the niwa lands in the room only to rush over to a locker : as he had expected , they still hadn't been cleaned out yet . in most cases , "dark" wouldn't have even bothered with a room like this ... and yet he pilfers what he pleases : a spare officer's suit and brimmed hat , one that he changes into within less than a ticking second , the clock-hand within the room's interior counting down sharply in between long wails .

the door is next : he races out in the same direction as the guard , making use of a sharp shortcut to greet the girl from a perpendicular direction . ' hey ! ' a gloved hand stretches itself outwards towards her . ' come here , this way --- ! ' ( would she even be able to trust him like this --- ? ) in the din and ensuing chaos he nevertheless hears it : a gasp of recognition from the other guard , a halting and affronted : ( you're --- ! )

the one sweeping up kat into his arms as their company lifts a crackling radio and starts to shout into it : ( he's here ! he's early ! damn it , kaitō dark has entered the premises ! i repeat , kaitō dark has entered the premises ! )

it'd be a fine welcome any other night . and yet , racing away with a girl instead of a priceless , stolen treasure in his arms , careful to keep his palm and his person obscuring her face from the prying lenses of cameras , it's the first time he's ever felt his heart beating so anxiously like this .

' wiz --- ! '

glass shatters ; black wings unfurl --- he's charged through a window , shards twinkling as they rose high , higher and higher into the sky . the brim of his hat too struggles and catches against the ascending winds , until finally , it falls away , spinning quietly in a free-fall towards the ground . amidst the sound of flapping wings , the great phantom thief's face is finally revealed ; so are his sympathies , his blatant worries .

' ... are you okay ? ' an incident like that was just too close a call !!
