important writing reminder: do NOT force yourself to write when you're exhausted and/or feel yourself criticizing every single thing you've previously written.
forcing yourself to write when you think everything you're writing is garbage, is not going to do you any favors. take a break and get back to it later.

i cannot stress the importance of letting yourself be autistic
not just the good parts, not the parts that are met with an “aw, that’s a good autistic trait, so it’s ok!”
no. fuck that. you’re autistic, and as long as you’re not hurting anyone (including yourself), do whatever the fuck you need to in order to have your needs met and feel comfortable.
it sounds harsh, but sometimes it needs to be: fuck other peoples’ feelings. they are not the top priority in your life, you are.

WRITEBLR REINTRO
hey there! i've been on writeblr for almost a year now (where did all the time go?). i'd made a writeblr intro back then, but have grown tremendously since and think it's the right time for an updated version that represents me more authentically.
about me
i'm ann lilly jose (they/she), an 18 year old writer from a very small locality in kerala, india
infp, enneagram type 2
i'm an english literature student
i write literary fiction and poetry
i'm a discovery writer and a proud member of the weird verbs, specificity, and flowery prose community
my taste in music is questionably vast and diverse, but shawn mendes and bts <3
i run a literary magazine called eclipse zine
my aesthetics: moon phases, tinted skies, black coffee, midnight angst, chaos theory, old books, silent corners, intense conversations, meaningful connections.
my wips
Tumblr media
[image description: a hanging branch of berries silhouetted against a blurred rising sun. towards the right, a white serif font reads, "dairy whiskey". / end id]
my main wip which is currently, in all its glory, a blank document. this is a literary fiction novel about lost childhood, religious trauma, toxic relationships, and the concepts of purity and sin. even though it's never explicitly stated, this story is set in my hometown so expect a lot of kerala's landscape and culture.
Tumblr media
[image description: a finite expanse of dark blue water, fallen leaves on its surface. in the left corner, a white serif font reads, "twinepathy". /end id]
literary fiction novella about identical twins norah and renee. central themes include grief, trauma, and guilt. told in a series of poetic vignettes.
Tumblr media
[image description: a city captured at night - a shop lit in orange on the right, a street on the left with a parked white car, electric posts, red lights and residential buildings. towards the right, a white serif font reads, "let's be suns tonight". / end id]
this is a literary fiction novel about clueless boys noah and levi as they try to untangle their complicated lives overnight with each others' help. my first step into gay waters. central themes include survivor's guilt, effects of fame on celebrities, and of course, love. this novel is sisters with @avakrahn's every sun that ever died. wip intro here!
Tumblr media
[image description: lily pads floating on the surface of water. towards the center, a white serif font reads, "stray ghosts sleep on lily pads". / end id]
this is my poetry collection in progress. running themes include ghosts and eating (or wanting to eat) inedible objects. i share a few of my poems on tumblr. find them here on my poetry masterlist.

Hey, I know it’s hard to believe that your writing is “worthy” sometimes! And it can be even harder - and take more mental energy - to convince yourself of that.
Instead of putting “worth” or “value” on your writing, try asking yourself some of these questions instead!
Do I enjoy the process?
Am I telling the story that I want to?
Am I creating something that brings me joy, comfort, and/or self-expression?

you're still a writer, even if:
you don't write every day
your books aren't published
you haven't finished your first draft
your stories don't get a lot of interaction
you keep creating new stories instead of finishing them
you aren't as good or skilled at writing as other people might be
you struggle to come up with new ideas
you abandon stories when you get bored of them
you don't want your books to be published
you take long breaks between writing sessions
you only write for fun
you doubt your ability as a writer
you don't create original stories and write fanfiction
you don't know all there is to writing techniques and writing rules
Writing is about writing. It's not a competition of who can reach what first. You still hold value as a writer, regardless of what your progress or process looks like. You set your own goals, and it's okay to only do this for fun.

There is no one right way to tell your story. Your writing will sharpen over time. Your ability to weave words into tales will strengthen the more you practice. So don’t worry about writing your WIP “right”! Every storyteller will put a unique twist from their perspective on a story idea. Focus on telling your story with your voice, the way you want to!

i'm a little bit pretentious lol!
Active WIPs:

[image: a photo of a person underwater with their eyes closed and right arm extending up. they are wearing a thin white shirt and a black vest. the photo is cropped just below their collarbone. the water is tinted a dark green. to the left, in a bold serif font reads "revelations, revelations." / end id]
revelations, revelations.
A literary adult novel set in 1980s San Francisco, following twins Felix and Dorothy as they try to navigate their trauma and identities after escaping the conservative Christian cult they grew up in - and realising they are not the good people they thought they were. Features religious trauma, queer history and lots and lots of water imagery.
Tumblr media

life cycle of massive stars
A literary/contemporary/??? new adult novel set in 2018 UK, following three autistic housemates - Kristen, Tomas and Junie - trying to survive their final year of University and all the massive life changes out of their control. Features second person POV, some experimental form, flowery prose and my proof that litfic protagonists can be funny <3
I also have two other novels I'm not actively writing: I Am Made of Indigo and Eulogy For Our Burnings
Tumblr media
[image description: four wide pillars, painted orange and brown. in the middle, on the second pillar is the shadow of a person. to the left, in a bold serif font reads "how to swallow matchsticks" / end id]
how to swallow matchsticks
Collective title for my short fiction! I like to write about relationships, breaking points, self destruction and impulsive decisions. Highlights include a teenager taking her little sister to the aquarium after killing their father, ace lesbians teaming up against the commune they spend their summers on, sneaking out to visit your brother who faked his death, setting a laundromat on fire to impress a girl and a cat that might be God.
Tumblr media
[image description: an image of an extended hand and arm in the shadows, illuminated by an orange light beneath it. to the left, in a bold serif font reads "this is where i buried my baby teeth" / end id]
this is where i buried my baby teeth
Collective title for my poetry! I like to write weird little narratives and long, freeform monologues. Themes include reckoning with your body, reckoning with your past self, perception of others in relation to yourself, fragmented identity and being transgender <3

Repeat after me:
Good rest is required for creativity
I am allowed to rest in order to restore and rejuvenate my creative well
I am not lazy for resting
My WIP will benefit from the rest I give myself and my creativity
My writing requires rest just as much as I do in order to flourish

eat nothing, eat it raw - poem
Tumblr media
well, well, what has life come to? i’ve always loved poetry and have wanted to write it, but so many things kept me back from giving it a go. there are so many talented poets out there (massive respect and love to them all) and i was so worried about my words lacking depth, them meaning nothing, and them making no sense to others. a few days back, i made the decision to learn how to write poetry and write at least one poem a day no matter how bad it turns out to be. i watched several youtube videos, read countless articles, and read so much poetry on the internet to get me motivated, and i think it worked? the feelings i mentioned before - of worrying about my words meaning nothing and them making sense to no one - is the topic of this poem. i’m still starting out, so please be kind and let me know what you think! poem transcript and taglist under the cut.

You are a writer. Whether you write every day or not, you are a writer. Whether you write five hundred or five thousand words a day, you are a writer. Whether you’re full of creative ideas or not, you are a writer. Being a writer requires one thing: loving what you do.

Creating can take a lot out of a person mentally. Don't forget to rest every once in a while! It's okay to step away from a project that is mentally or physically demanding. Just keep doing what you do!
