Archie was definitely going to baby Maxie and check up on him often, even if Maxie didn't want him to.

He... actually paused once Maxie asked that. How was he going to explain that? It took him a few seconds to respond as he tried to organize his thoughts, feeling his heart ache as he did. He took a deep breath before speaking. 

"Yer right, Maxie. I'm not unfazed by awakening Kyogre. But wouldn't this be affectin' me? I spent over 10 years in my life trying to find out how to expand the ocean, but for it to lead to the world gettin' destroyed if those two scamps weren' there to stop the legendaries? 'Course I'm affected by it."

He looked down at Maxie and slowly hugged him gently once he laid on his chest. "And as for how I managed to live with myself... I had my admins, my most loyal members. They helped me to cope with what I've done. But it ain't just about them being my admins. It's because we've known each other for so long that we know everything about us. Shelly let's me explain my feelings and she tries to help, and Matt always makes me set up certain goals to help. He even tried to make me do 5000 punches one day like how he does everyday. It didn't get rid of the guilt, but it certainly helped. Would it be a surprise to you that a tough guy like meself actually cried in front of my admins after Matt tried to finish AZOTH?"

Like for a starter with Archie

I realized that I didn’t make a post like this before, but like the title says, like this post and I’ll message you so we can talk about the plot or any ideas for it. For now, I’ll only accept three likes. I’ll message you later tonight once I get the chance to.

And unfortunately, Archie was indeed going to be like a mother to him, but why wouldn’t he be? Why wouldn’t anyone close to Maxie be worried about him? He looked extremely worried about him. He slowly placed a hand on Maxie’s shoulder gently as he stared at him, looking for any signs of possible discomfort on Maxie’s face. He wasn’t going to pull him into a hug unless Maxie wanted to be hugged.

He gently ran his fingers through what remained of the ends of Maxie’s hair. “This isn’t like ‘the great Maxie’ as you call yerself to cut most of his hair off.” Archie then shook his head. “Maxie... you’re not a monster. You’re...” he softly laughed before resuming, “... a fool like me. A monster wouldn’t realize that what they had done was wrong; a monster would think nothing was wrong with their plans and would continue to mess up the world. Yer a human, albeit one that made big mistakes, but a human nontheless that learned from their mistakes... just like me...” 

Archie sat down on the couch by Maxie once he started to cry and moved his hand to his cheek from his shoulder, holding his cheek gently. He had never seen Maxie cry before and he never seemed like the type to cry or to act so emotional. Then again, he always acted like he wasn’t like that. Maxie probably thought that he was idiotic, Archie thought.

Again, Archie shook his head. “It’s not just the hair, is it, Maxie? You’re also still upset after awakening Groudon, and I’m guessin’ you’re also upset for cutting your hair in the first place. And even if you still think it’s stupid to be upset by that, it’s okay to be upset at things, no matter how small or stupid it is.” He stated as he tried to comfort Maxie.

✦ Being well dressed

Archie had dressed himself only a few minutes ago and was currently waiting outside of his base for Maxie to arrive. They were going out to dinner to a fancy restaurant, so they had to dress up for it. How Archie managed to find a suit that wouldn’t rip in certain spots due to how muscular he was is a mystery. Even his wetsuit ripped on on his arm years ago!

He was no longer wearing his bandana, revealing his hair. Normally, it was messy due to it being under his bandana a lot and Archie rarely brushing it, but it was clean now since he didn’t want to hear Maxie nag about how he didn’t clean his hair for their ‘date’, if you could call it that. Archie even combed his thick beard as well. 

After hearing someone clear their throat behind him, he turned around to see Maxie dressed up as well. He surpressed the urge to whistle at him due to how he dressed as he thought Maxie would consider it as being rude. “Woah… You look amazing, Maxie.” He complimented. 

Maxie is always dressed up formally in his Team Magma uniform, yet him being in a suit made him look more formal than he did before. It really suited him as well and to Archie, he was looking handsome. It wasn’t long before Archie held his arm out as a silent invitation for Maxie to wrap his arm around it. With a small smile on his face, Archie asked, “Ready to go?”

Archie was surprised by the young Alolan champion hugging him suddenly after winning a double battle at the Battle Tree. For a scamp like Moon, she had a tight hugging grip. He soon recovered from that surprise as he laughed softly and hugged Moon back, being gentle with his grip. He let go after a few seconds. “Well, that was quite the fierce battle I had with ye, scamp! So much power in such a wee little thing like yourself! Bwahahahahaha!!” He said and let out another laugh, louder than the last one. 

He coughed afterwards, but recovered before smiling at her as they left the battle area as Moon decided that was enough battling for today. “We’re going to wrap things up for today? All right! Give me a shout if you want to tussle; I’ll be waitin’!” He said before walking out of the Battle Tree.

Archie fell down to his hands and knees after Maxie knocked out his Sharpedo with his Camerupt, despite the type disadvantage his land loving rival had. He came down to the Seafloor Cavern to stop Maxie from awakening Groudon, knowing full well about how dangerous the legendary was and the damage it would cause to not only the ocean Archie loved, but to the entire world as well.

Maxie’s grunts, before Archie could get back up, pinned him to the ground and kept him there. “You go on ahead, sir!” “We’ll keep him down!” “Go with your admins to finally awaken Groudon, sir!” Was some of the things the grunts said as they kept the strong man down despite his efforts to get up. 

And just like that, Maxie returned his Camerupt and made his way deeper into the cavern. “Maxie!!” He called out as a last attempt to get him to stop. “Don’t do it!! You destroy everything!! Even the land will be destroyed by Groudon!!” Maxie, however, just… ignored him and continued walking with his admins with the Red Orb in hand. 

Archie tried harder to get up, but to no avail. “MAXIE!!!” He called out loudly, reaching an arm out to the direction he went; still not receiving an answer. He… was going to awaken Groudon, and Archie was powerless to do so now thanks to Maxie’s grunts.

Archie’s eyes widened as his former rival suddenly kissed him. His body froze up for a moment as he felt his heart start to race. He… didn’t know how to think of this due to how sudden it was. He didn’t do anything for a few seconds as his mind raced, thinking of what he should do. 

Archie then slowly closed his eyes and took in how Maxie’s lips felt. They were so soft unlike his rough lips. Did Maxie enjoy kissing him despite this? Enjoying this or not, he knew that Maxie must be waiting for a response as even a second in a kiss could leave someone anxious if the person didn’t kiss back.

He wrapped his strong arms around Maxie’s waist and shoulder, but his grip was gentle as he didn’t want to accidentally hurt him. Slowly, he kissed back as he shared his body heat with Maxie. Archie ran his fingers through the curled ends of Maxie’s hair and pulled him closer, savoring every second of this.

Eventually, the need for oxygen arose and Archie slowly pulled away and opened his eyes, looking down at the red head as he kept combing through Maxie’s hair. “Max, I…” He was at a lost for words, unsure of how he could express his emotions after Maxie kissed him for the first time.

Archie watched as Maxie stepped into his room, ignoring the rhetorical question that came out of his rivals mouth. He faintly heard Maxie's stomach growl, making his concern grow. "Do you need me to get some food for ya, Max? I'm sure there's some food left after my crew had their share of dinner." Archie offered, standing by his door as Maxie sat down on his couch.

To Archie, the temperature was perfectly fine to him, but then again, he was rather muscular, which gave him more body heat. "Just as I can't imagine how you live in yer base in Mt. Chimney while wearing all those layers of clothes, even if you tend to get cold easily sometimes." He responded as he walked to the thermostat and turned up the temperature in his room by a few degrees. 

He turned around to look at Maxie and was about to open his mouth to respond to Maxie's question, but closed it and froze up for a second as he turned around in time to see his hood back. He didn't see it down for long, but he saw it long enough to notice how his hair was... 

Archie looked shocked, although he soon looked concerned again, that Maxie's hair was like that and walked over in front of him. "Maxie... yer hair... Did you cut it...?" He asked and pulled his hood back slowly. His concern for Maxie grew more with how he sounded.

Matt and Zinnia?

… Zinnia… That name brought a sour taste to his mouth. She was the woman who used her Dragon Pokemon to easily take out his strong Pokemon while his barely scratched her Pokemon and she took his key stone as well! … Not that he thought like he should be able to mega evolve his beloved Sharpedo after what he did. She… certainly got on Archie’s nerves during the short time they interacted with each other. Not only did she defeated all of his Pokemon with ease, but she also went on about how that trainer was the hero of the story who was there to save the world again, which was true in a way, but her attitude was rude and rubbed him off in the wrong way. Thankfully, that was the only time he had encountered that trainer, and hopefully he won’t see her again.

Shelly!

Shelly has been Archie’s friend ever since they were kids. Dewford was a small town, so his friends were limited, but Shelly was the closest to him. Perhaps it was because they saw the mythical Pokemon, Jirachi, together on that fateful day that brought them close together, or perhaps it was just because they’ve known each other for so long and enjoyed each other’s company. Whatever it was, Archie was grateful for it.

Archie was surprised that Shelly still stayed with him after he awakened Kyogre, despite her telling him not to do it, but he’s glad she did even if he was a big dolt according to her. She stayed loyal to Archie through thick and thin and is still by his side along with Matt, willing to help with the newly reformed Team Aqua, and to help Archie with his guilt, something that may never go away…

Matt

Ever since Archie saved Matt from a terrible storm, he had been extremely loyal and grateful to his savior. While Matt is quirky with how he talks about him, Archie still appreciates his way of showing it and doesn’t see any problems with Matt saying that he’s his bro and how he loves him platonically. However, Archie still feels guilty and blames himself for driving him, along with the rest of his loyal crew, to such extreme lengths due to the events involving Zinnia and Matt wanting to complete project AZOTH. Despite this, Matt stayed with him when Archie reformed Team Aqua for the better and helped him with the terrible guilt he has, which Archie is incredibly grateful for.

Maxie wasn't the only one suffering with guilt. Archie had awakened Kyogre as well and witnessed the two legendaries clashing against each other with the weather going back and forth between a horrible drought and a hard heavy rain. 3 months after that, he still couldn't forgive himself. He was... such an idiot for awakening Kyogre. Especially when Shelly told him to not do it when she realized how devastating it would be to awaken it.

But... Shelly, along with Matt, helped him with the guilt. Yes, they couldn't get rid of it, but they could at least try to lighten their friend's mood. Shelly just talked to Archie about his guilt and tried to offer him comfort and support whenever he wanted to talk, like a therapist, almost, while Matt would invite his bro to work out with him and encouraged him to reach a goal while working out. 

Archie was alone in his room, laying on the couch as he stared blankly at the ceiling without speaking, perhaps comtemplating on what he had done, when he heard his door get knocked on. Was it one of his admins checking up on him? That question in his mind was quickly answered when he heard Maxie speak, as well as pleading...? Strange... after the events of the legendaries awakened, they didn't see each other in these past three months. Archie just... didn't want to see him after what he had done, what they've both done. He was concerned about Maxie and how he was being affected, but didn't come to visit him. 

"Hang on!" He called out, although not in his usual cheery way, and got off of his couch and to the door, opening it to reveal Maxie. Archie soon looked concerned as his rival didn't look that well. He noticed that his hood was up and the eyebags on his face, had Maxie not been sleeping as much as he should?

"Maxie...? Is somethin' wrong with you?" He asked softly and stepped out of the way so he could step into his room.

Three months.

Three months since Groudon nearly asphyxiated the world with its unending droughts. Since he failed Courtney and drove her to trying to destroy the world. Since the child and that woman saved it from the meteor.

Three months and guilt still held its bony hands tight around Maxie’s thin neck. He’d tried to keep it away through any means - throwing himself into work at Team Magma, avoiding sleep and the nightmares that came with it, oh Arceus anything - but it just wouldn’t go. It finally came to a head one evening as he glared into the mirror of his personal bathroom in the base. He hated the demon staring back through his own reflection and didn’t stop himself when his hands grabbed at a nearby pair of scissors.

At first, the crudely short haircut he’d given himself provided him a brief moment of gratification; he felt relieved to behold the unrecognizable face staring back at him. Like his euphoria upon initially summoning Groudon, however, it didn’t last.

What was he thinking? What if his grunts saw him like this? He had an image to maintain! How could he give his grunts the opportunity to see their leader in such a state as this? There had to be somebody he could confide to… his admins? No, of course not. Courtney would be as distraught as she was when their plans initially failed, and while Tabitha was helpful, he was better for tactical wisdom instead of emotional support.

There was only one person he could depend on. He hated to admit it, but it was true.

That was how Maxie found himself knocking on Archie’s door, his hood thrown over the ragged mess of scarlet hair atop his head. “Archie. I’m not here to fight. Let me in.” He hated how weak he sounded. “…Please.”
