Cool! Of I may ask though, how do you usually conceptualize your OCs? Do the backstories come first or the designs?

It really depends! Sometimes the backstory comes first, then the design or I think something would make a cool design for an OC and think about the backstory later. 

Or a third that happens (kinda frequently) is that I find the way an OC ”acts” is quite different than what they started out as, or they changed drastically in looks over time, and I usually recycle the previous version or designs into a new OC. 

Take for example Tama (a bit far back on this blog). Originally the character was named To/ariel (can’trememberhowispelledit) and she was a Noble who adopted and cared for orphaned children.  Over time, To/ariel took on a different role and eventually got kicked from the Amulet OC List as she moved to Personal Story OC List. But, I had liked parts of the original concept I did for her, so I recycled elements into Tama’s design, mostly the long dress and pattern, and Shoulder..gorget...thing.

Really, everyone has a different method for how they create Ocs, so don’t try and limit yourself to sticking to on side if it’s not working! If you’re stuck, try a different method!

OH er uh man. Uhh I forgot to kinda mention that 90% of what I sent here in the past years have been retconned... Meaning a lot of them are not, uh, viable? Am I allowed to still submit here tho? >_

Of course! 

Ocs change all the time! (I know mine have gone through at least a dozen changes in all the years I’ve had them, even the ones outside of Amulet) Ocs don’t have to static and unchanging. People change all the time! 

I look forward to seeing what all of yours become!

The worst thing about writing scenes non-chronologically is that my characters decide to reference things that apparently happened to them and then I’m like oh, I guess I have to make that have happened then.

Royal Sisters
