for my birthday i want a little stability

hey everyone, if you follow me or have seen my posts you know i've been dealing with unstable housing, caregiver abuse & harassment from my landlord for the past year. i have an eviction hearing on thursday. i'm hoping to move at the end of september, but things are still up in the air.

it's my birthday in about two weeks, and i would love for this one to be better than the last few.

the nonprofit that promised to cover my moving costs suddenly told me last week that they're out of funds. so i'll need to cover movers (not sure how much yet but it was about $850 last time) and first month's rent plus fees ($450). i also really, really need new glasses ($300+). my senior cat needs a vet visit at some point.

it's a pretty big bucket but any drop helps. so for now here's my ko-fi:

My mother has just woken from a 45-day coma. She was injured while trying to bring food for us, and when she finally opened her eyes, her first words were a request for fruit. I had nothing to give her. Prices are impossibly high, and with my injury and the fading of donations, even this smallest request feels unreachable.

Cancer sucks!! I'm scared that I'll lose my dad, and I desperately need help!!!

Thursday, August 28th: Hello, everyone. I’m Gem, a bi, mentally ill, and disabled woman, and I regret needing to ask for help, but I need assistance in covering travel expenses to visit my dad & return home.

On August 15th, I received a call from the hospital regarding some check-ups my dad had due to a persistent cough he's had for some time. To our dismay, they've diagnosed him with throat cancer. We're still processing this, and my dad was given two options: chemotherapy or a laryngectomy (removal of the voice box).

The last few weeks have been especially tough, with my dad travelling back and forth to The Royal London Hospital for various tests and scans. Thankfully, the doctors have assured us that if the cancer hasn't spread, the best chance for survival would be to proceed with a laryngectomy. He is scheduled for the operation on Tuesday, September 2nd.

If all goes well, he’ll spend about a month recovering in the hospital, learning to breathe, eat, and communicate without his voice and through a stoma. However, while he is in the hospital, we need to return home, which puts us in a tough spot, as we could only afford one-way tickets. A return trip costs £167 for two adults.

I know this is a big ask, but if anyone could spare even a small amount—just £1, $1, or €1—it would make a truly significant difference. Sharing this message would also help just as much.

Layla and her children are sick!

Layla @sallymosworld reached out to me today to let me know she and her young children have fallen ill. They have fever, chills, and cough, and on top of that are also suffering the skin conditions that plague so many of the people currently living in tents. Being sick in Gaza is very difficult as there is not much medicine available to ease symptoms or comforts to help one rest and recover. It is especially dangerous for children with their weaker bodies and immune systems!

Donations to Layla's campaign have slowed, and she's using all her energy to take care of her children while she's ill herself, so she hasn't been able to promote it like usual. hey what's up. i am in desperate and urgent need of emergency housing in the philadelphia area.

i currently rent a spare bedroom in a house and the landlord has gotten so sick of me that they regularly corner me to scream and insult me, yell at me across the house with no prompting, whisper threats to me while i sleep, etc. would really like to be out of this situation.

i can afford $350/month in rent. i have an elderly cat who is very social and loves people but cannot be around other cats. i am quiet and keep to myself and for the most part just want to be left alone. i am extremely desperate. i need help badly.

I know that on the internet transfemmes tend to get accused of “separatist ideology” the most for speaking about our issues, but I do think it’s hilarious (evil) how the more marginalized you are the harder it becomes to actually be separationist or isolationist because of the exact systemic discrimination that creates those desires.

Like ok, you’re transfemme. You have hella bad experiences with non-transfemmes doing transmisogyny to you so you end up interacting almost exclusively with other transfemmes.

But you’re also Black, and you hope that also being marginalized will help cut out the antiblackness and transmisogynoir from non-Black transfemmes, but it turns out they still gonna do that shit to you, so you retreat to just other Black transfemmes.

And then you get hit with long covid or literally any other disability, can’t work anymore because of it and become reliant on mutual aid to survive. Surely, you think, the double whammy of being Black and transfemme means they’ll understand ableism too. Maybe mask so you can be with them safely without getting even more disabled.

And then they don’t, so you try to find other disabled Black transfemmes, a sliver of a sliver of a sliver, but they’re all ALSO broke and isolated and surviving on mutual aid and luck and they tell you your options are to accept everything being done to you so that you have a chance of surviving via mutual aid and community resources, or simply give up.

So you go back to the larger community to have a chance of surviving, because the average lifespan for Black transfemmes is mid-30s and you’d like to beat the average at least, and you prepare to suffer again, to survive.

Last year, two of the best known/loved cis Black women who were disability advocates on Twitter died due to lack of mutual aid. One couldn’t raise funds for her chemo, the other couldn’t raise funds for a rideshare to the hospital the day she died and knew that an ambulance would ruin her financially.

I look at them, two well known and loved disabled Black women who put so much effort into helping their community only to die due to lack of help, and then I look at the other disabled Black trans folks I know surviving off of mutual aid and I wonder how much longer it’ll be until it’s them, because they damn sure don’t got the same amount of people that even know who they are.

Even though we feed my little sister in priority, she’s lost 5 kilos in a month, when she should be growing and gaining weight. Her growth is stunted and her mind is destroyed in ways a child’s mind should never be. Can you imagine your daughter or sister being tired of a life that’s lasted for less than five years? My heart breaks for her every day.

We’re truly struggling to survive in northern Gaza. We’re at the mercy of the prices that keep rising up to $200 for one kilo of flour and $1,300 a month for the destroyed single room the ten of us live in. Add to that medicine, Internet fees, phone data, a turn on the phone charger, and you’ve still barely scratched the surface.

We need help. We’re thankful for anything you can give, even if it’s just $5 and even if you can only share our campaign. All we ask is that you don’t ignore us, because our lives depend on it 🙏

Saturday, August 2nd: Hello, everyone. I’m Gem, a bi, mentally ill, and multiple disabled woman in desperate need of help, as I'm struggling to pay my rent, which is now overdue!!!

I apologise for asking for help again, but as most of you are already aware from my previous posts, I have been struggling quite a lot recently to make ends meet due to my rent arrears and outstanding debt, which keeps building up every month as I am unable to clear it.

To be quite honest, these past few months have been absolute hell for me, and with no other income, I've been relying on the kindness of others to get by.

I desperately need that kindness again, as the welfare I received last month wasn't enough to cover all my bills and rent, and I received this letter today stating that I am £143.06 in rent arrears.

Again, I know this is a lot to ask, but if anyone could spare any amount to help me, even if it’s just £1/$1/€1, it would mean a lot, and sharing helps just as much.
