The best notes written in manuscripts by medieval monks
Colophon: a statement at the end of a book containing the scribe or owner’s name, date of completion, or bitching about how hard it is to write a book in the dark ages
Oh, my hand
The parchment is very hairy
Thank God it will soon be dark
St. Patrick of Armagh, deliver me from writing
Now I’ve written the whole thing; for Christ’s sake give me a drink
Oh d fuckin abbot
Massive hangover
Whoever translated these Gospels did a very poor job
Cursed be the pesty cat that urinated over this book during the night
If someone else would like such a handsome book, come and look me up in Paris, across from the Notre Dame cathedral
I shall remember, O Christ, that I am writing of Thee, because I am wrecked today
Do not reproach me concerning the letters, the ink is bad and the parchment scanty and the day is dark
11 golden letters, 8 shilling each; 700 letters with double shafts, 7 shilling for each hundred; and 35 quires of text, each 16 leaves, at 3 shilling each. For such an amount I won’t write again
Here ends the second part of the title work of Brother Thomas Aquinas of the Dominican Order; very long, very verbose; and very tedious for the scribe; thank God, thank God, and again thank God
If anyone take away this book, let him die the death, let him be fried in a pan; let the falling sickness and fever seize him; let him be broken on the wheel, and hanged. Amen

I think Rob Garren's Purple Poultry Project is very interesting and i have been following it closely i think for over a year now. He has some very pretty birds but the project is still in its infancy but im glad he made a group where he specifically posts.
He is basically selecting birds who have lots of iridescence and selecting for purple iridescence specifically. If I remember correctly he wants to produce birds who are large meaty and are productive egg layers.
His founding birds were Ayam Cemani, Sumatra, and a land race chicken breed Ponape but has since added other breeds like the Shamo

There’s this girl at my school and she’s really nice and I remember sometime last year at one point she would carry a clicker around and click it everytime she had a happy thought/something good happened/she laughed etc. It was always kind of cute how you’d just hear the little click every once in a while throughout class it always made me smile knowing that it was bc something made her feel happy idk

a couple months ago someone sent me an ask asking if I’d ever heard of Boquila trifoliolata and I was like ‘no way. this can’t be real’ and i looked it up and it was and I forgot about it until just now when my supervisor and I got sidetracked and I looked it up again to prove to her that it’s real and found out that not only does this plant vaguely mimic the leaves of whatever plant it’s vining on, it does it when it climbs on fake plants too so any theories about how it does it that include gene transfer or chemicals or touching it in any way are just out the window and those were like, the only theories the original researchers had about how it might be doing it. so anyway I am screaming and crying and whatnot

Confession time; while I may have started making my girlfriend lunches purely because I love her there’s now a little bit of gay spite involved as well. I want the straight girls she works with to see what they’re missing and hold their men to higher standards.

just so people stop (hahahahah as if) asking me the same 3 or 4 things over and over again in tags/comments/my inbox
- no, normal people do not get sleepy when they drink caffeine????? people drink caffeine to wake themselves up / keep them awake. monster etc are called energy drinks. people. please. come on.
- no, normal people do not get heart palpitations/the shakes/headaches/nausea (physical effects that can resemble anxiety/panic attack) from caffeine. if vibrating straight into the shrimp dimension and coming back with a headache was normal, caffeinated beverages would not exactly be popular. you just have a low caffeine tolerance.
- yes, you can have adhd and a low tolerance for caffeine at the same time. caffeine tolerance is a liver metabolism issue. adhd is a brain abnormality. these things are unconnected and the end result is probably something like "i want to take a nap and am also vibrating". uniquely shitty way to get nerfed though, sorry bro.
- unmedicated adhd people get sleepy/relaxed when we have caffeine bc adhd brains are understimulated and caffeine is a moderate stimulant that gets you to just-under-neutral aka "sleepy nap times" zone. if you consumed enough you'd eventually get there but it's really not that powerful a stimulant and you're starting half a lap behind everyone else.
- i cannot believe i have to say this but if you are taking adhd meds then yes obviously caffeine will work more-or-less as expected? you already solved the understimulation problem what did you think the medication was for. "i take adderall and caffeine gets me buzzed" is not a counter-argument to "people with adhd get sleepy on caffeine". you did amphetamine and caffeine at the same time buddy. come on.

I have always been partial to stories which feature the removal of many layers of clothing as an important plot element. One of my favorite Scandinavian folktales is about a queen who, through some magical conception mishap, gives birth to twins. The younger twin is beautiful and normal in every way, but the older twin is just. Y’know. A big horrible snake with arms.
When the younger twin grows up and wants to get married, the lindworm returns and insists that he, as the elder prince, must be married first. When a massive horrible snake with arms lays down the law like that there isn’t really any room for disagreement, but it turns out to be awfully hard to find a bride willing to marry him. The king and queen search far and wide for a woman who will take a husband who is 50 feet long, doesn’t have legs, and may or may not eat his would-be wives when they are appalled by him, but eventually they find a local shepherd’s daughter who is either coerced, a monsterfucker, or just very open-minded and agrees to marry the lindworm.
Depending on the version, the bride either seeks out the advice of a witch or comes up with the idea all by herself, and goes to the bedchamber on her wedding night dressed in many layers of dresses. Her big horrible snake with arms husband is waiting for her and bids her to disrobe, but she asks him to shed a skin as well. Her sexy Russian nesting doll cosplay has so many layers that by the time she is naked, he has shed all of his skins and is 1.) either a sexy naked human dude underneath or 2.) is this meaty blob of helpless worm meat that must be whipped and bathed in chemicals before he transforms into a sexy naked human dude. Either way, they presumably live happily ever after and the younger prince can finally get married.
I’d like to know how the elder prince adjusted to having a human body. He was born a lindworm and lived his entire life slithering around—he’s never worn pants! He’s never had to sit on a toilet! What’s he gonna do now that he’s a sexy 20-something heir to the throne? Is it a shock for him when he looks down and he’s just got one sexual organ? His butt is in the back now, he’s got to shave, he’s got to eat with a fork and a knife and chew his food instead of unhinging his jaw and swallowing it whole.... is it weird for him? Is his honeymoon spent learning to walk on two legs? Is his instinct to crawl out of bed and drag himself across the floor by his arms? Does he roll onto his back and play dead when he gets scared? Does he wrap his torso around his lunch and attempt to constrict it? Is his wife... into this?
