Oddly Specific Hermitcraft Headcanons
564 posts
Got any headcanons for Hermitcraft (or affilated series) that can really only be described as "oddly specific" (for example, BDoubleO100 always toasts his bread for exactly 15 minutes)? Put 'em here! We take pretty much anything and everything as long as it's SFW, and non-bigoted.

Joe isn't a mage
He's a magician
While both mages and magicians have some similarities, there is one key difference.
Cleo and Zedaph are both mages. They both have mage stones that are linked to their soul power, causing magical bursts based on the gem type.
Magicians don't have soul power links to mage stones or any magical items. Much like wizards, they use knowledge to make things happen. Unlike wizardry, they use tomes and other magical objects rather than potions.
Joe calls himself the only true magician, in a world full of magicians who are just glorified conmen.

(c!)Grian is still the creator of the Life Series in-universe, as the Watcher in charge of the games. His friends' heightened emotions during the games make for a fantastic food source - his key feeding grounds, in fact.
To him, it's a necessary evil. He needs to feed on emotions to be able to maintain his preferred, 'normal' form. Without sustenance, he will gradually wilt into an eldritch horror still capable of affecting the world around him, but unable to feel anything.
Not the world around him; the warmth of the sunshine, nor the wind against his face. Nor any emotions; the love he has for his friends disappearing, the happiness, anger and grief of his memories fading into just blank acknowledgement that they ever happened. The people and world he holds so dear to him become nothing more than toys in a toybox. It's a frightening thing to be aware of.
He never wants that to happen. It had, once, during S8; unable to quell the sheer numbness and boredom that seemed to slowly consume him after the high from 3rd Life wore off, he didn't think much of causing a cataclysm just to shake things up a little, see his friends' reactions, have some fun... and that was how Moon Big happened. (Last Life was a last-ditch attempt initiated by the rest of Boatem to get him back to his senses.)
Understandably, he wanted to make sure he was always well-fed from that point on... which means more death games for everyone. Unfortunately, emotions are also an addiction for Watchers, so the more they feed, the more their hunger grows, and they need to feed more often, leading to a reinforcing loop.
The 'silver lining', if it can be called that, is that his friends involved in the games are all aware of his motive and needs, and all consented to it. The games are actually pretty fun anyway, and it's helping someone who is otherwise a great friend out, so it's a win-win situation.
Still, they're trying to work on a way to break, or at least manage the emotion addiction. It's not healthy for him, and there's a very real possibility it could get worse. It was once possible for him to exist among his friends without needing to cultivate and harvest emotions to feed on, and that was the long stretch from S6-S7. He's still trying to go back to... however he was doing it back then.

Joel has the biggest collection of teas. British teas, Asian teas, he has every single tea you could possibly think of. Many hermits have tried to find a tea that Joel does not have but none of them have succeeded.

etho hates the dark so much, he sleeps with either the lights on, or with a night light. the first time he told other hermits about it, he was a bit embarrassed and awkward about it, but now all the hermits have a night light at their home just in case for etho.

I’m sorry guys I didn’t mean tags I meant notes. You guys are doing your best and this blog is amazing! I meant it seems like there’s less people putting comments in the notes or submitting things.
Oh that’s fine! And don’t worry we have a lot of submissions (I really need to clear out the inbox lol)

Grian, taking full advantage of Watcher divinity perks, changes his wings every season just for vibes.
S6's look was junglefowl - colourful and flashy, not the best fliers around, ancestor of chickens.
S7's was scarlet macaws - pesky birds, similarly flashy, he's also gotten much better at flying by this point.
S8's was owls - being nocturnal as a Mooner, matched Pearl as a welcoming surprise. (Also, the inspiration for his base that, uh. aged badly.)
S9's was ravens - his role as a messenger to the other side of the rift, and overall having a more mysterious vibe for the season (+ his double-crossing King Ren - so long as there are ravens in the tower, the kingdom will not fall... but the raven preferred to fly away.)
S10's is kingfishers - did it in desperation for his fishing luck to turn around.

Once Grian and Scar were exploring and got stuck somewhere so they called Mumbo to come help them but he got stuck too. They then proceeded to call Skizz and he got stuck as well. When Xisuma finally found them he gave them a lecture on being more careful and calling for hermits they will not get stuck with you.

No more angsty watcher headcanons. Have a fluffy.
[Good/morally neutral watchers au]
Grian is not a watcher, he almost was so he has some powers, like his wings and shape-shifting, but other than that and void resistance he doesn't have any of the watchers powers. Because of this many other watchers he knew and got along with when he almost became one are very protective over him.
So you might just stumble upon him building something with like 50 pairs of eyes hivering around him.
[Another headcanon is that the watchers are us, the viewers.]

When Etho and Mumbo stand next to each other, Etho looks taller. Mumbo is actually taller and wears boots that (unintentionally) add to his height. Even when they're standing next to Skizz, who is the same height as Mumbo without the boots. No one knows why.

sometimes (more than he'd like to admit) grian likes to perch over other hermit's beds when they sleep and watch them in silence. he does it to some hermits more than others, but he has perched over every hermit's bed at least a few times.

Also to clarify my last ask, the pranks at the potluck are usually Grian, Joel, Martyn, and whoever else feels like it playing pranks on Jimmy. It’s a wonder he keeps coming back.

The hermits will host a potluck every few months and invite their off-server friends to it. (Lifers, empires, mcc, misadventures, whoever they can really) there’s food, games, maybe a few pranks, but everyone has a fun time together.

If anyone wants Grian out of their way they put him in a box full of useless buttons. This includes the watchers, but since they’re so much bigger than him it looks like they’re putting their hyperactive child in a playpen
asdfghjkl that's so funny

Certain animals will tilt their heads to listen more carefully. Most hybrids of these animals, such as Ren and Grian will do the same thing. Other hermits think this is very cute. Grian knows that other hermits think this is very cute and will do it intentionally to get out of trouble. Some hermits, Mostly Xisuma and Doc know that he’s doing it on purpose and no longer fall for his tricks.

I've said this before on another blog but I wanna put it here eheh
Doc has been isekaid multiple times due to his game breaking redstone contraptions. Sometime they just go haywire and he gets transmigrated into a whole new 'server' (universe but he doesn't know that) and just chills there until he finds a new way to get out.
After some time of breaking that 'servers' laws of reality he just returns to hermitcraft like nothing happened.
Hermits usually don't notice either cause its either that time moves differently in that 'server' and its been not that long, or they just assume he's on some other escapade
He also doesn't bring it up with the others since it happens relatively commonly that he sees it as another Tuesday
It once came up with grian for some reason and needless to say the guy was freaked out
It ended with g asking the other watchers if they knew about it and they just chuckled and said yeah
