I really want to imagine what would have happened to Riverclan had Frostpaw actually died and never appointed a leader. Who would split up to the other clans, who would still keep to Riverclan territory, and how long it'd last. I cant find other's AUs about it so I guess I gotta make my own

I don't know why but I'm partial to Frostfur x Redtail having Brackenfur and Cinderpelt and Lionheart x Rosetail having Thornclaw and Brightheart when I feel like splitting the litter into two. Sleek and important queen Frostfur being mates with the important deputy Redtail. Big and fluffy Rosetail finally getting the fluffy mate and family she always wanted, until both her and Lionheart are tragically killed in the same battle, defending their kits in the nursery. And then Frostfur is left all alone, taking in and raising all four kits as best as she can. It's no wonder she wanted to stay in the old forest when the clans left for the lake territories.

i'd share a template but i actually got this tree-making style from someone on twitter, and just reconstructed it myself (i use sheets a lot so i was able to figure out how they did it) i will teach:

start with empty sheet. go view->show-> and uncheck gridlines

2) click this box and colour fill the sheet with a nice colour that doesn't hurt your eyes and is readable with black or white text overtop

3) select all of the columns, hit resize columns, and set it to 30. this will make your sheet very small, so make sure to keep your selection and click "insert 26 columns to the left/right" to make it larger

^ as you can see here the box that im selecting is very small now! this is correct.

4) select a 4 spaces wide x 6 spaces tall box, reset its colour to white, and click 'merge cells'

5) select the 4 squares directly below the box and click merge cells again. this is your text box, where names can go. if you aren't adding names you don't need this.

^ i am using the font verdana, 10 font size, with central horizontal and vertical align 6) you now have your character box. i copy and paste the same box around, and just change the name. next i will show you how to put the picture in. 6.5) you will need a picture or screenshot of your character/picture. i should add that the picture squares aren't actually perfect squares (they're taller) so make sure the pic you get isn't one either! select your picture box and copy+paste the picture it. it will appear VERY big usually but this is OK. art used here is ursidays

next, click the 3 dots at the right corner at click 'put image in selected cell' at the bottom.

now your picture is in the cell! 7) now i will teach how to do the lines: the red and blue boxes are to show how many spaces are between characters, they are not things you will add. i do TWO spaces between people right next to eachother horizontally and THREE vertically.

first, i do all of the horizontal lines, between the lovers and above the children.

you will click the 'borders' button. in the lineweight options (bottom right button) i set it to the 2nd thickness. then, click the button that creates a line on the TOP of what youre selecting.

that makes this;

next, select the right spaces to where your lines end. you can select the left side, but make sure all of the things you select are on the same side.

you will now go back to the 'borders' menu and click the left-border button.

and that gives you this!

this is pretty much all you need to know. for me, if a character is divorced/disowned, i change the lines to red, and if a character is adopted, i change the lines to blue. a character w/o a known lover but who has children i give a line coming from the bottom of their name. if two unrelated lines intersect, i colour one of the touching lines the background colour but slightly darker to make sure it's obvious they aren't connected. ok thats it! if you/anyone else needs more help just ask me :3

The group of Riverclan cats that just, appear in Dark River and then Eclipse in PoT drive me crazy. Where did they come from? Who is their family? And then they proceed to make their kits the majority of future Riverclan after OotS. Icewing, Graymist, Duskfur, Otterheart, Pinefur, Rainstorm, Mintfur. The best "in universe" explanation is that they had been warriors that just hadn't been listed yet, because 9 apprentices (Dapplenose and Pouncetail included) becoming warriors at roughly the same time is ridiculous. But I just cannot for the life of me figure out where to place them in the Riverclan family tree, and there's barely any discussion online about where these random cats might have come from. Im looooost

I keep going back to Bristlefrost and Stemleaf and her unrequited love. There's not a lot of media I know of that focuses on that kind of love that's strong and true, but respectfully drawn away when the other person doesn't feel the same where the rejected person is the main focus. I havent come across too many fandom works exploring this dynamic between them either, it's a shame.

Has anyone ever considered the AU concept of BloodClan being the SkyClan remnants? I think there is something to the idea of the exiled Clan becoming a constant thorn on the sides of the forest cats and holding on to an enmity and resentment from the time they were scattered from their home.

YES that's pretty much exactly the conclusion I drew as well. Your littermates are the ones you are close to. Even full-blooded siblings from a different litter just don't seem to be considered with the same closeness

i'm always rolling around my ideas of how family dynamics work for these cats, but if feel like the concept of "half siblings" wouldn't really exist? you either have littermates, or siblings from other litters, at least on your mom's side. maybe half siblings might be a distinction if you share a father, but i don't really think so. it just doesn't seem to be a useful definition when multiple litters and often multiple dames and sires are so common. they're either your sibling or not. i don't think my clans would even know the phrase

something i wish ppl understood more about pinestar is that he... was not interested in leopardfoot at all. like, in any way. he never thinks about her unless somebody else prompts him to. he never calls her "my mate" or anything, the closest he gets is saying "the mother of my kits". other cats call them "mates", but not Pinestar himself, not even internally, which implies he... didn't see leopardfoot as his mate?

it implies there mightve been miscommunication between the two about the nature of their relationship. maybe leopardfoot thought they were mates, but pinestar didn't. but pinestar is absolutely dogshit at communicating, and is extremely depressed and doesn't care about anything including his own life, and leopardfoot assumes his lack of objection is him reciprocating her feelings. (after all, if he fathered her kits, i think it's a reasonable assumption for her to make that he returns her feelings)

i imagine from pinestar's perspective, he saw fathering the kits as a duty to the clan. throughout his leadership, he's extremely disconnected from himself as a person (well, cat lol). he sees clan life as being nothing but soulless obligations with no place for emotion anywhere. it then makes sense, if leopardfoot asked "do you want to have kits", he would say "yes" because to him it's just another task to keep thunderclan running. i think he would have said yes to any she-cat who asked, because he was so disconnected from everything, it didn't matter to him who it was. it's just another part of his duty as a thunderclan cat. it explains why he has basically no emotions towards leopardfoot at all, how he barely feels any different to her than he does to all his other clanmates.

leopardfoot and pinestar r both such interesting characters i stg im always rotating them in my head.

i think sparkpelt would have been a good character if she was exactly who she was. a talented kid that learned that she was better than everyone and kept that until adulthood when she was met with someone who she cared about that she realized she wasnt perfect for. a messy person with strict rigid values that werent always right which she realized when her kid challenged them. someone whos allowed to be imperfect and grow from that

horrendous opinions on sparkpelt especially in asc are way too common. i know half of this fandom doesnt read the books. why do you have opinions on them

I've been enjoying reading and rereading the books for what they are lately, but I will eventually take a more involved look in the clans as the religious cults that they are. Like that kind of subtle horror in living in a commune that knows where you are all the time and dictates what youre allowed to do. Like living in middle school for the rest of your life. It just always gets to me how often even the adult individuals have to sneak away to get even a moment to themselves before the clan starts questioning where they are lol

This is why I dont include same-sex mates or trans cats in my family tree rewrites. Because my favorite thing is to look at what culture and relationships are actually implied through the writing. The only gay cats are implied to be outside of the clans, and I think that is telling.

And I do think there is more social commentary in these books than people give them credit for. Especially in the newer arcs, multiple "good guy" cats and even protagonists have been questioning StarClan and parts of the Code and clan life without much resolve. As in, theyre not shot down and taught how perfect and right StarClan is and then readily accept it. They are left in their muddled thoughts to fester. I feel like this state of dissatisfaction the clans are in is worth looking into.

so yes anyway the clans would be homophobic. can we talk about it more does anyone have some thoughts they would like to share. warrior cats is so much more interesting when you look at it through the lense of the female characters and that they live in a misogynistic and overall bigoted society. maybe warrior cats is actually a meaningful social commentary. maybe the world is made of pudding. i think squirrelflight and leafpool are lesbians
