Leo and Tatum had been bugging the couple for weeks to babysit the little Wyatt. Family was an important value at the Morgan’s, a value they successfully taught to their son. But Elliot and Azalea loved taking care of him, forgetting a bit about themselves sometimes. That’s how his mother convinced him; the young married couple deserved some time together, childless, just enjoying each other. Plus, the grandparents were wrapped around the little boy’s finger, spending time with him whenever they could.

“ Baaaby… “ Elliot sang, sitting down next to Lea, who was still in bed. When she finally opened her eyes, his smile grew wider. “ Guess what. “ He said, though not leaving her enough time to actually guess. “ My parents picked up Wy this morning, and i’m taking you out for a well-deserved us day. “

the previous night marked the completion of her first week back at school, teaching. and she loved it. but, boy was she exhausted. after a long summer break, lea was still getting into the swing of waking up early, getting wyatt ready, making breakfast, and heading to work before seven in  the morning. still, her life felt picture perfect. all beacuase she had elliot by her side.

azalea adored sleeping in on saturdays. she was wrapped in the blankets completely, often the type to steal from elliot at night without realizing it. their dog, bear, laying at her feet keeping them warm. his voice wakes her, slowly. despite being half asleep, she opens her eyes with a smile, listening to him speak. “hm?” she mumbles, shuffling to sit up a bit more. “aww no way, really? el, that’s so sweet.” she giggles, warmth in her smile. “so, what are we doing today? or is it all a surprise?”

 “ You think so? “ Elliot asked, his eyes widening with hope. “ It’d be so nice if the clinic could stay in the family; I mean, I don’t wanna pressure him or anything, he can become whatever he wants. But it’d be nice if he actually wanted to take over one day. “ The tall man continued, a smile in the corner of his lips as he briefly thought about their future. “ See? So a lizard is a much better idea. “ He replied proudly, gently moving his hand up and down her back. “ I will, you won’t even know it’s there. I promise. “ El nodded, obviously a little excited about the idea himself.

lea giggles as elliot talks about passing down the clinic. the idea appealed to her as well. that was why they moved to riverside. to find the perfect home for their family and future generations. the girl lets out another sigh, having to stand on her toes to wrap her arms around his neck. “i guess you’re right... besides i want to make sure he has the best birthday ever.” she rest her head on his chest a moment. really, she just liked having elliot close. “fine. long as you promise. you never break your promises so i trust you.”

Ivy loved that she could count on her best friend for pretty much anything- she was always so happy which really fit well with her own bubbly personality. Their conversations were always so positive, even though they were there for each other if anything went wrong. “ Aw thanks, it means so much coming from you. “ The redhead smiled, placing a hand on her heart to demonstrate she was touched by her friend’s words. “ I’d never doubt you wouldn’t think about that, you’re always so thoughtful. Oh, I love that idea! We could play a classic game of Duck Duck Goose, and maybe we could have some sort of treasure hunt? “ The girl suggested, still thinking about what else they could plan. “ I know. Last time I went at your place he showed me his many, many drawings of lizards in different environments. “ She responded, rolling her eyes though an amused smirk appeared on her features. Ivy obviously loved being complimented, but she felt a bitter taste when she thought about Valentina and what she’d think about this interaction. “ Yes! Oh my god- do you imagine if our kids fall in love one day?! “ The redhead continued, her voice a little too cheerful as she noticed Azalea’s small moment of nostalgia. 

“no problem, babe. you know i love ya’.” she responds. lea couldn’t have asked for a better best friend. something about being around ivy kept her smiling, kept her ever optimistic personality afloat. the girl felt lucky, to have amazing people like her and elliot in her life. her eyes brighten at the mention of a treasure hunt for the kids. wyatt would love that sort of thing! “oh! that’s brilliant, ivy! maybe get a treasure box and fill it with candy and stuff and the kids have to follow a map and find clues to find it?” she was suddenly inspired by the small idea-- already thinking about where she was going to find a lizard decorated treasure chest. maybe that was a diy project for later. she always loved doing that sort of thing anyways. she giggles, rolling her eyes at the mention of her son’s drawings. “it’s crazy how much he can just talk about different lizard environments? like, what three year old knows all that.” she was a proud mother that he did. she isn’t able to think too long about her brother, ivy’s comment pulls her out of her own thoughts. “aw! can you imagine how cute that’d be?? i can’t wait for wyatt’s wedding day, not gonna lie.”

“well, that isn’t written on your forehead, is it?” valentina said, not getting how that would change anything about the point she was making. being bisexual and married to man was fine by the church, as long as you didn’t commit homosexual acts so… still, would not be an issue. “well, thank your lucky stars you teach where you teach.” she told her, honestly just bitter about things that had nothing to do with azalea. valentina shrugged. “i guess. i won’t be wasting money on any classes before our children are at least six or seven. any younger and you’d be better off burning your money.” she told the other woman, her voice still as flat as ever. she didn’t want to impress this woman. at all. she was a threat, to everything that was stable and secure in her life. at least, that is how she perceived it. she raised an eyebrow at lea and chuckled. “it’s been quite clear from the start that this is ivy’s shower that you’re planning for her. i’ll just go have a drink with some of my friends or something, don’t worry.” she said, after being pissed off for months that it seemed like everyone had forgotten she was going to be a mom too, not just ivy.

she rolls her eyes at the girl’s remark. “didn’t say it was... sorry.” she replies with a bit of a sarcastic undertone. what was with val? azalea had worked tirelessly to get the femme to like her and none of her efforts had proven profitable. growing a little irritated, she just nods along to a few more of val’s comments. she was having to consistently remind herself not to take any of what she was spouting to heart. lea nods one last time in agreement. “you’re right. it is her party. i mean, everyone’s gonna be paying attention to the one with the baby bump.” she tries to lighten the mood. “but, you should still participate. pictures and stuff.”

Her smile grew wider as Lea reminded her about the baby shower, placing a hand on her baby bump. “ Thank God you’re here for that- Val’s rehearsing like crazy and I have the boutique to manage and future lines to work on. So you’re basically our life saver! And, that’s without saying you have your own stuff going on. “ Ivy replied, with a grateful smile on her full lips. “ Great choice! I think you’ll look gorgeous in it. I’ll have it ready for you next time you come by the shop. “ The redhead said, with excitement still in her tone. 

“oh no worries, babe. you know i love planning stuff anyways.” she brushes off, with a warm smile. she nods excitedly in response. “i can come by tomorrow.” she says, tucking her dyed hair behind her ear. “so for the baby shower, where did you want it? your place? my backyard’s always open as well?” she suggests.

“ Probably. “ El agreed, nodding as he let out a small chuckle. “ But I think it’s nice he likes animals so much. “ He was definitely expecting the negative reaction from Azalea, when he spoke about the lizard. But Wyatt had been obsessed with the creature since before he could talk, even requesting a lizard-themed bedroom, in green, obviously. “ Come on babe, it’s not that bad! I’ll feed and take care of it, and think about it this way; it teaches responsibility to the little guy, and you know he’s been begging for one since he learned to speak. And, you know damn he could’ve asked for a snake. “ The tall man tried to convince his wife, a large smile on his face.

“i do too,  he’s a little veterinarian in the making.  he’s already so much like you.” she giggles. lea was glad wyatt turned out more like his father. he picked up things she’d loved about elliot. like the way he seemed to care for everything-- including animals. and his big heart. she tries to listen to elliot’s reasoning for getting the little boy a lizard, but of course her thoughts made her pretty apprehensive. afterall, she didn’t have a huge love for animals like elliot. at least, for animals that weren’t dogs. “oh god, a snake? i’d never let him have a snake, hell no.” she shivers a little at the thought. lea lets out a sigh, “but, maybe you’re right...” she replies, surprised at herself for giving in so easily. elliot and wyatt both had that effect on her. “fine. we can get him a lizard. just, make sure it stays in his room.”

“Get this: this morning I was trying to work on my book and Zara comes in, absolutely begging to sit on mama’s lap, apparently just wanting to watch me work for like- an hour.” Molly gushed. “Please, tell me how I can make sure she stops growing up so fast! She’s already four, I can’t believe it.”

azalea giggles, finding the anecdote adorable. “aww, that’s so sweet!” she coos. lea takes a sip of her coffee, thinking about her son. wyatt would totally do that sort of thing around his father. as for her, the four year old was around her alot more than elliot and, as a result, he was a little less clingy. she shakes her head with a chuckle, “i know right? i wish there was some sort of time machine to go back a few years. wyatt’s birthday is in a week.”

“ I think he’s trying to find a lizard and brings back everything he finds on the way. Maybe we should get him one for his birthday, after all. “ Elliott admitted, chuckling at the face Azalea made when she thought about the mouse. 

“i’m gonna have to watch him more closely,” she laughs, shaking her head. she’d always let wyatt run around in the backyard with bear while she had her morning coffee. she was realizing maybe she should go out there with him, just to make sure he isn’t digging up any other creepy crawling animals. she looks a little baffled at elliot would suggest such a thing, her jaw dropping slightly. “uh-- what? a lizard? what’s wrong with more legos?” she replies. “that’s so gross, el.  no way.”

“why? you’re married to a man. no one would even blink.” val said, grumpily drinking her coffee and just wishing the woman would fuck right off. she was tired, she wanted to go be with her girlfriend and honestly, didn’t this woman have a family of her own? why was she here? her angry, jealous, possessive brain wondered. “yes, well, anything to get money out of parents.” val mumbled - honestly she was a professional pianist and composer. of course she knew there were kids classes, she also knew that most kids had the talent of a cucumber. “well, it certainly is dumb.” she deadpanned and sighed. “honestly, i’d rather talk to ivy about whether to reveal the sex or not? i don’t know, it’s not all my decision and we don’t know yet. so, that’s that and honestly, the baby shower is for ivy. not me. i’m not even pregnant.” she said, a little sad but trying to hide that. she was a mother-to-be too and sure, the babies might not be biologically hers but they were still her children. she wanted a baby shower too, or at least a part in the joint one but it didn’t seem like that would happen.

azalea shrugs, “well that’s nothing i want to stand behind. i’m bisexual.” she starts to explain, hoping maybe if she told val more about herself she’d like her a bit more. “besides, i never want to pressure the kids i teach into feeling they have to be a certain way. that’s not right.” she looks down at her feet, struggling to find a reason to keep the conversation up.  val had no reason to hate her, but the more she was around her the more obvious it was that she did. but, azalea was going to pretend she didn’t feel something was off towards the other. for her friendship with ivy’ sake. “isn’t that nearly everything you can put your kids in nowadays? just for money? wyatt did those baby swim lessons, which we could’ve taught him ourselves.” she adds, in a joking tone still doing her best to warm up the conversation. she decides to ignore the small jab that val made at her, focusing more so on the baby shower. “yeah, you guys should talk about it. it’s good to have a mutual decision.”  she nods, “but, you if you wanna do anything at the shower you tell me.” she smiles. “i know ivy’s gonna want everything vegan and cruelty free so i’m gonna have to start looking for vegan caterers. are there any colors you wanted to do?”

“ You think so? Well, if my boutique ever fails at least I know what to get into! “ She joked, letting out a small laugh. “ Oh right! You’re doing a bbq, right?! What ideas did you come up with, so we can brainstorm? “ Ivy continued, obviously excited by the whole birthday thing. She loved them, especially when they were for kids. “ No but it’s true! Oh god, so do I. Now you stop, you’ll make me blush. “ The redhead chuckled, running her fingers through her hair. “ And i’m sure Wyatt and the babies will get along well as they grow up- that’s gonna be so cute. “ 

she shakes her head giggling, “that’s a good plan, but unforately i don���t see the boutique failing. you’re store is gonna be huge.” she compliments with a grin. azalea nods in response, already starting to think about the decorations she has to buy for the party. “yeah, and don’t worry, we’re having vegan food. i’m gonna make elliot  grill some vegan hotdogs.” she says with a smile. “well, right now all i have planned is water balloons and painting these little lizard pictures i have for them-- you know how much wyatt loves lizards.” azalea absolutely adored party planning. really, planning anything in general was a hobby of hers. it’s why she made a good teacher. “but you’re so pretty when you’re blushing!” she coos before nodding in agreement. “aw, wyatt can be like an older brother for them.” she can’t help but think of her own brother, her smile slipping a little bit at the thought, briefly.

“ Sorry! I got so busy with everything- but here. “ The redhead apologized, passing her the folder. “ It’s a new lingerie line, fit for pregnant women and ones who aren’t. I think you’ll really like it! In fact, choose your favorite and consider it a gift- i’m sure Elliott will love it too! “ Ivy said, giggling.

“it’s alright, i know you’re busy. which is exactly why i’m planning your baby shower.” azalea takes the folder, flipping it open. she looks through the designs with a warm smile-- always impressed every time she got to see her best friends talent first hand. she nods, listening to ivy explain the line, immediately starting to blush at the small mention of elliot. “i think you’re right about that.” she giggles as well. “how about this dark green set? think he’ll like this one.” she says, pointing at a two piece bra set.

“you try that in a religious school. the catholic schools i went to? no chance in hell.” she told her, her brain going off about straight privillege, or at least the privilliges that came with being in a straight relationship. once again, it stemmed from how she was treated by her parents and her old classmates when she came out. “he can barely write his name. he cannot play the piano yet.” she said, definitively. only a few children could play and well, if wyatt didn’t have the actual want to play, he shouldn’t be made to. oh, right, azalea was pregnant too. “to reveal what? whether our babies have a penis or a vagina? how weird.” she said as she pulled up her lip in disagreement. “the genitals of our babies have nothing to do with the people they’ll become. also the blue and pink are ridiculous and honestly, why is that even a thing? no, i will not participate in that nonsense.”

“well, good thing i don’t teach at a religious school.” lea says in a mumble. she was growing incredibly uncomfortable. and, it showed in the change of her posture. she shys away from val a little more, attempting to think up a way to get out the conversation that wasn’t equally as rude. “yeah, but don’t they have those kids classes? doesn’t matter. it was just an idea.” she shrugs, obviously learning it was best to stray away from the topic of piano. maybe val was just really passionate about the skill. she can’t help but let out a small chuckle, shaking her head at val. maybe it was just the way val said it but the lea could barely hid her bubbly personality. “no, no i mean i agree it has nothing to do with who they are but,” she pauses trying to think why parents do the big sex reveal baby shower events. “it’s just dumb fun for expecting parents, ya’ know? it’s not like the baby’ll remember any of it.” she defends herself a little in her tone. “but got it, no sex reveal cake. so are you guys just gonna tell everyone? not keeping it a secret? i like that. el and i waited til the baby shower to tell everyone. but instead of that blue and pink thing we did green and pink, our favorite colors, and have everyone vote on what they thought we were having.” she found herself rambling, yet again.

“ Honestly? If I wasn’t a fashion designer I’d probably be doing the same job as you. Caring for little ones is so much fun- I’ll help with game ideas anytime if you need. “ Ivy suggested, smiling excitedly. “ It makes me feel so good that you’re the one who’ll be keeping my kids when they get to kindergarten though. “

“i think you’d make such a good teacher.” she says with a bright smile, “and i’m gonna have to take you up on that offer. wy’s birthday party is coming up and i still need a few extra game ideas.” lea tucks a few strands of her hair behind her ear. she blushes slightly, waving a hand. “oh stop, you’re such a sweetheart. i can’t wait to meet your kids! especially if they turn out have as sweet as you.”

“well, which child doesn’t love pets.” she said, with a small shrug. “there are still schools ivy and i wouldn’t be able to show pictures of each other to the children if we were teachers.” she told her, suddenly quite bitter as she thought of that. well, turning things lea said negative was something she was very good at. “thanks.” she said, an urge to roll her eyes very present. why did she always compliment her. her and ivy. couldn’t she go compliment her husband and leave them alone? she thought, though she knew that it was okay for ivy to have friends. she just wondered why they all had to be hot. “i was seven.” she explained. “and he shouldn’t be put into it. he should want to play.” she said, a slight edge to her words.

lea picks up on the shift in val’s tone. she tries her best not to read too much into it or take it to heart. maybe val was just having a tough day. “i-i think you could? i mean, my schools not judgmental or anything. and, kids are so sweet, ya’ know? they don’t care about who you’re with.” always the optimist, lea tries to lighten up the conversation with her encouraging note. she nods as val thanks her for her compliment. azalea wonders if it was something she’d said that had caused val’s mood to go sour. it always seemed to whenever she was around her. “oh, maybe i should wait, wy’s only three.” she sighs with a small small. but, it falls after val’s next comment. the tone making her even more uncomfortable. lea sways a bit in place. “yeah i guess you’re right. i don’t know, he’s really into animals like his dad. just thought piano would be a different hobby for him to try.” lea stays quiet a moment, trying to think up something to shift the topic to. “so uh-- sex reveal is coming soon! you and ivy gonna do one of those cool balloon box reveals or something? just wondering because, ya know, i’m planning the baby shower.” lea just assumed ivy would let her plan the party. planning stuff was just lea’s thing anyways.

“ So I just launched a new line at my boutique, and this week is the gender reveal appointment! Things are so good right now, I hope it’s not a sign something’s bad’s coming though. “

azalea grin enthusiastically, almost unable to contain just how excited for ivy she was. “why haven’t i seen the designs for the line yet? details, details.” she kids, nudging the others shoulder. “oh comeon, don’t say that! things are going good and that’s that. nothing bad’s coming, sometimes life’s just really good to you.”

valentina smiled at azalea. she knew that is was mostly her past scars that made her jealous of lea and ivy’s relationship and closeness but that didn’t mean that she couldn’t imagine it. lea and ivy. her brain did like to torture her. “sounds very exciting.” she told the other woman and licked her lips, slightly annoyed that she had to interact with her to not seem rude. “i have to rehearse for a new concert series. probably a ten hour session to get ready. my fingers are already hurting.” she complained.

whenever she’d stop by val and ivy’s place, it wasn’t rare for lea to just start rambling if she found herself alone with valentina. she didn’t know the other very well and, as a result, she felt a bit uncomfortable if there was silence between them for too long. “it is! and i get to show them photos of wyatt and elliot-- oh, and they love seeing my dog.” she is rushing through her words a bit, visibly excited. “ya’ know i think that’s so cool. you’re so talented.” she smiles softly, complimenting the other. anyone who knew azalea would know she was trying pretty hard to get on val’s good side through her compliments. “when’d you start playing? i’ve been thinking about putting wy in some piano lessons.”

“school starts back up tomorrow and i literally, cannot wait.” azalea muses, obviously beaming at the idea. “i get to meet twelve little kiddos-- think we’re gonna play some getting to know you games. ugh, i freakin love my job, there’s nothing better than getting to wake up every morning and just hang out with kids all day!”
