“It does make sense and I think it’s really, really sweet. I highly doubt that there are many other people who are as thankful for what you’ve been through and who would use their past to do something so positive. You’re all kinds of amazing.” She tells him with a smile.

“you’re kinda biased, don’t y’think?” he teased, smiling genuinely at her. “but thank you, you are too, you know.”

“Oh gosh. At the top of her lungs? I’m looking forward to it,” she winks. “That’s very true, actually. I don’t think anything could be as crazy as hearing from your pretty new boyfriend that he was getting a baby,” she laughs. “I’m so glad you did, babe. So, so glad.”

“oh, yeah, if you’re lucky.” he laughed, smiling at her. “yeah, i’ve got you beat.” he nodded. “me too. it’s really the least i can do, y’know? like not even just money wise, but to like, thank the system, i guess. they did a lot for me, placin’ me with my parents and stuff, i should repay the favor. i guess. i don’t know, does that even make sense?”

“rarely. i can’t seem to find any of them.” she frowns a bit. “see, i didn’t even know you guys had a library here. nothing ever seems to be where they say it is. it’s kind of offputting.”

“you’re not looking enough then.” he shrugged. “they’re hidden, i guess. i don’t blame you.” he said with a sigh. “are you new? d’y’want a map or somethin’?”

“i wouldn’t that kinda rule too seriously. mall cop probably had a bad day - some kid made fun of his badge or something. and you were just a convenient punching bag.”

“i’ll take being a punching bag, i guess. good thing i took karate in elementary school, yeah?” he chuckled.

“I won’t even care, honestly. She can yell it however much she wants,” she smiles even wider. “That’s the best thing anyone could ever say to me. That no one could ever take her from us,” she whispers. “I don’t know. I mean, I didn’t wanna be that weird girl who tells her brand new boyfriend that she already sees a future like that with him. Didn’t wanna weird you out.”

“i’m sure she will, at the top of her lungs.” he laughed. “it’s the truth. it seems so... surreal, i guess.” he nodded, “what? no way! i was that weird guy who told his girlfriend he was getting a baby.” he laughed. “you can’t seem weird after that kind of thing.”

“What about when you are off baby duty? and i did ask Isabel.”

“i’ll probably go to bed, i have a meeting in the morning. what did she say?”

“The thought of her calling me mom literally makes me reallly wanna cry.” She laughs softly, reaching up to wipe one of the tears that did in fact fall. “She is our kid. And I really, really want her to be ours forever. Want to do this with you. Well, keep doing it with you. I knew from the minute I met you I wanted to have all of this with you and the fact that we’ve already almost got it forever is pretty damn incredible.”

“she’s getting there, i’m sure she’ll be yelling it ten thousand times a day in no time.” he said with a small smile. “then we’ll do it, it’ll be official and everything. no one’s gonna be able to take her from us.” he said proudly, smiling down at the her. “you did? how come you never said anything?”

“oh yeah?” she raised an eyebrow, “and what do I win from you eating my food? exuberant company?”

“uh, yeah.” he laughed. “obviously.”

“I’m sitting home being broad does anyone wanna take a walk or maybe go out to a club to get there dace on with me?”

“see, i would, but i’m on baby duty tonight. try asking isabel.”

when you spend the last twelve hours in surgery; i can’t remember the last time i was ever this tired. can i get a hot bath and some coffee please.

“yeah, sure. how d’you take your coffee?”

“The one time I am lazy and order pizza I would end up getting some weirdo trying to hit on me and try and get my number. I thought I would be nice and not call his boss and just give him a fake number so he would give me my damn pizza and leave.”

isabel-alvez:

Isabel wraps her arms around his middle, beaming at the soft kiss to her forehead. She melts into his chest as he speaks and then lifts her head back up to look at him when he’s finished. “Wait, really? You want me to be her mom? For real?” She asks, her eyes wide in absolute disbelief. “I never wanted to overstep so I figured I’d kind of just play the part. I’m seriously gonna cry…” She whispers, biting her bottom lip to stifle the giant grin on her lips and the tears already pooling in her eyes.

he nodded at her question. “yeah, of course. you’ve been her mom for as long as she’s known, m’sure she’s gonna call you mom when she starts talkin’, too. it’s only right that it’s official.” he said, grinning at her when she seemed to be taking it all in. “you’re not overstepping, she’s our kid. i couldn’t do it without you.” he said honestly. “i would say don’t cry, but i don’t blame you, i nearly cried when they told me she was open for adoption.”

Isabel was definitely a bit shocked by all of this but there was no way she would ever let anyone else end up with their child. She nods a few more times an looks up to meet his eyes. “She’s ours. Has been for all this time and I would literally claw someone’s eyes out if they tried to take her.” She tells him, never getting like that. “It means a lot to me, ya know. The fact that you care this much about my opinion and want me involved in all of this. Thank you.” She whispers softly.

cayson beamed as he looked over to her, glad this whole thing had gone as smoothly as it had. he didn’t think she’d have said no, but then again, he didn’t really know what to expect. he walked over to hug her tightly, kissing her forehead softly. “let’s not do that, the media would have a frenzy over it.” he teased, smiling at her. “well i wouldn’t just come home one day and be like, hey, adopted a baby today.” he laughed. “and besides, i uh... was thinking we could do it like, together, for real, on paper. i want you to be her real mom.”

Watching him not know quite what to say makes her a bit more nervous and she’s honestly frozen in shock for a few seconds when he actually gets it out. “Adopt her? Wait, seriously?” Isabel asks, running her fingers through her hair softly. “I wouldn’t want her to ever somehow end up anywhere else but with us. If adopting her is the way for us to make that official, I think we need to do it.”

he watched her processing everything and sighed of relief when she seemed to be on board with it all. “yeah, seriously.” he nodded, perking up at the thought of actually going through the adoption process. “i just, i don’t want to do it if you’re not totally sure, ‘cause like, once we get ‘er then we can’t back out or anything.” he said, knowing how awful it would’ve been if his parents hadn’t gone through with his adoption. “i just can’t imagine anyone else having her.”

“yeah, no problem. at least, i know they do for dogs, and they’re not too different, cats and dogs.” he shrugged. “but anyway, where was the last place you saw her?”
