Theo Raeken sits in front of him, jaws clenched shut. He moves slow, deliberate, like he's practiced the movements. Only when he's already put the phone to his own ear does Liam remember to take his own off the hook. It's just so jarring seeing the guy again after everything that happened. And the worst thing is, he looks... different. Almost small, lonely.

It's what he deserves.

"I'd say I'm surprised to see you here, but honestly I'm more curious what took you so long," Theo's voice crackles in his ear. A smirk spreads over his face, a reflection of the Theo he knows too well, even after months. He was too quick to judge before, just because the guy could use a shave, doesn't mean he's any weaker than he remembers.

Or: "Thiam AU where Theo doesn't get sent to Hell, but he's in prison instead and Liam starts to visit him because he wants to know about the Wild Hunt and then he (tries) to break him out of prison".

Liam throws the lamp on his nightstand at Theo's head. He watches him dodge it. The lamp smashes against his wall, falling to the floor in pieces.

"Get out! Get out, you fucking asshole!"

"Oh, you don't mean that," Theo says.

Liam grabs a nearby book. A hardcover Theo had taken to reading at night. He raises it.

"Oh, for the love of God, stop throwing stuff!" Theo takes a step forward, wrapping his fingers around Liam's wrist. Theo's strong. Stronger than Liam, even though he has more experience playing sports. It always pisses him off.

Liam growls. "Let go of me."

"I'm sorry, okay," Theo mumbles. "I shouldn't have done that. I promise I won't do it again."

"You know how much my friends mean to me." Liam finally manages to pull his arm away from his grasp. "You know and you still-."

"I know." Theo cups his cheeks. "I know. Please, forgive me."

"Go away. I don't want to talk to you right now."

Liam looks to the side. He doesn't have the strength to rip his face away from Theo's warm hands.

"I love you," Theo mumbles. "Liam..."

"That's not enough. You have to try. To be better."

"I am, I am better!" Theo takes a breath. "We belong together, Liam. We do." Liam stays quiet, because he knows. They're just about as fucked up as each other. "Look me in the eyes and tell me you don't feel the same as I do, then I'll leave you alone."

The same.

Yes, Liam loves him. Liam loves him more than anything. More than he'll ever admit to himself.

He knows, too, that they belong together. In a fucked up way no one can really understand. No one but them.

"You've given me so many reasons to walk away," Liam says, staring at a spot on his wall. If he looks at Theo now, he'll break.

Maybe he wants to do just that.

They belong together, after all.

"Then why don't you walk away?" Theo asks. His hands disappear from Liam's face. He misses them instantly. "It's not like I'm keeping you hostage here."

"You still don't get it do you?" Liam looks at him, finally. Theo's never been more gorgeous than when he's angry. Liam thinks he's the only one able to see the beauty in such a thing. Something others learn to hate. "It's because I love you."

Theo lets out a breath, his face softening. His arms fall around Liam's shoulders, wrapping him up in a warm hug. "Why didn't you just say so," he whispers, into his neck.

Things are okay, again.

Sometimes they need an explosion to clear the playing field. To make things calm. It's how they work.

And as long as they do, Liam will stay.

Theo’s drying dishes at the sink when the back door quietly opens. He can’t help but hide his smile, amused until he starts to turn his head and sees Liam’s face. He’d expected red rimmed eyes and a hint of fang. What he didn’t expect were the purpling bruises lining Liam’s jaw, his empty eyes, and the crimson that’s still drying on the front of his shirt and flaking on the skin of his neck. Slowly, Theo puts down the mug he’s been rinsing and takes a deep breath.

”You’re covered in blood, need to tell me something?” He asks, aiming for a casual tone as he looks at the beta. Vacant eyes lift on instinct and emotion flickers through them after a beat. Theo’s lack of patience has him scenting the air, but all he can smell is Liam’s blood and the faint tang of metal beneath it. “Talk to me, little wolf.” He murmurs, softening his voice with concern as he takes a step closer.

“I…I’m…” Liam’s voice trembles and then gives out completely, syllables and consonants lost in the space between them. Theo’s worry increases tenfold. There are a number of ways he can tackle this, but he’s not sure which one will be best today. The anniversary of Brett and Lori’s death has haunted the beta for the past few years and each time it’s come around, Liam’s reaction has been different.

Death is kind of like floating. The moment of impact hurts. Like being thrown off the seventh story. But then it becomes blissful, in a really fucked up way. 

Suddenly all problems. All worries, they disappear from your mind. It's like looking up at the starry night sky, thinking: 'I'm nothing compared to the universe.' That's what death is like.

Obviously, Theo hadn't anticipated dying today. 

He'd gotten up and gotten ready, he put on the clothes he wore yesterday (something he will probably regret after learning that, yes, ghosts are real. Spending an eternity with an oil stain on the front of his shirt might get old). He'd brushed his teeth, put on his shoes, neglected eating breakfast because every penny counts and he's already lost too many.

In the end, the way he went... A stray bullet leftover from one of the hunters, ending up in some guys gun only to end up in his shoulder with no one there to help him, because even though him and Scott are on somewhat amicable terms, he's away for college and, let's face it, Theo's too ashamed to ask anyone else for help. 

He goes quickly. He's okay with it. 

The boy standing in front of him, hands on his hips, decidedly is not. 

"What the Hell is wrong with you?" he asks, the moment Theo's eyes blink back open, after he thought he'd closed them forever. "You're a fucking wimp, you know that? Acting all broody and shit, while you could've just asked for help!" 

"Oh, fuck you," Theo mumbles, rubbing a hand over his face. It's his luck to get stuck with some annoying loser who thinks he knows everything better the moment he dies, yet he feels lighter than he has in hours as he stands, parting from his deceased body. "For your information, that wasn't a normal bullet. I couldn't just go to the hospital." 

"Yeah. I'm not stupid." The boy crosses his arms. "But you could've gone to Melissa, or Argent. Or, like, anyone else. But, no! Little Theo Raeken needed to go out with one last depressing bang." 

Theo pauses. "Do I know you?" 

The boy sighs. It's the first time Theo has looked at him properly, short hair, the bluest eyes he's ever seen. He looks like he's constantly agitated, or maybe that's only now. Theo's feeling pretty agitated as well, if he's honest. Can't even get a moment of rest after he died, it seems. 

He doesn't recognise him, though. He would have, if he ever met him. His face isn't something you'd forget. Even now, Theo thinks it might be burned into his memory forever. From his sharp eyes to the downturn of his pink lips.

"Of course you don't know me. I doubt Scott would've ever told you about me. Can't ruin his perfect fucking reputation. I gave him a piece of my mind after you killed him. Thanks for that, by the way." He smiles, holding a hand outstretched between them. "I'm Liam." 

Theo takes his hand. It feels as real as a human touch, which makes him halt. He'd thought ghosts would feel different. He hadn't thought ghosts were real at all. "Theo," he says, eventually. 

"Yeah, I knew that." 

"How?" Theo asks. He eyes his dead body and Liam must take notice of how uncomfortable it's making him, because he nudges him towards the street. It's not the fact that he's dead that bothers him, really, he's been dead before and he's honestly grateful he's not back in Hell with Tara. The thought of someone finding his body, though, that's what messes with him. 

Liam hums as he walks straight through the people on the sidewalk. "Well, ever since Scott killed me I've been meaning to get my revenge. So, obviously, I had to stalk you guys. His pack. His family. Whatever helped me get closer to my goal." 

"Scott killed you?" 

The feeling of walking through people is something he might not ever get used to. It's like someone is swirling around his insides with a pair of chopsticks. And so, he tries to dodge most of the people, which makes Liam snort. 

"Yep. Wasn't great, actually. Much less 'I'll just lay here and die' than your death was." Liam shoves his hands into the pockets of his jeans and ducks into another alley. Theo follows him, because what else is he supposed to do? "I'm his first beta," Liam tells him. "He won't admit it, but I am. He bit me and my body couldn't handle it. Very slow, very painful death. He kept me locked up in a bunker, where no one could hear me scream. Well, until I died. After that he buried me out in the woods. No one has found me yet, my parents still think I'm alive. Somewhere." 

"And now you want to kill Scott?" Theo asks. It makes sense. He would want to kill Scott if he was in the same position. Hell, he wants to kill Scott on a near daily basis just because of his annoying face.

"Well, you already did that." Liam shrugs, leaning against the brick wall. "I thought that was, like, what was holding me back from moving on. Some ghosts say you can only move on from the mortal realm after completing your unfinished business, others say you're stuck as a ghost until everyone forgets about you." 

"There's other ghosts? In Beacon Hills?" 

He hopes there's no one here he killed. That could become awkward. Or lethal, if there's any way for ghosts to die. 

Liam grins. "I'm the cutest one, though." He holds out his hand and it takes a while for Theo to realize he's supposed to put his hand in his. 

"Come on," Liam says, when he finally does, and promptly pulls him through the wall.

Theo leans a handful of things in the span of two hours. 

1. Laura Hale makes the best alcoholic beverages and ghosts (even werewolves and weird science experiments) apparently have no issue getting drunk. 

2. There are a lot of ghosts in Beacon Hills. Different ages and species blending together at the bar, like they've been doing it for centuries. Most of them have. 

3. Liam Dunbar is the most magnificent boy in the entire universe, and he's only admitting that because he's drunk. 

They're sitting at the bar, and it's immediately crystal clear that Liam is a big deal around here. Theo can't place his finger on what it is exactly, but people gravitate towards him like moths to a flame. 

Liam laughs at the appropriate moments, flirts with a girl wearing pigtails and a bubble skirt, fixes an old man's tie and in the same breath compliments another person's eyeshadow. 

He's...fuck, he's like really attractive. 

Theo must be staring. He knows he is, and yet he can't seem to stop. It might be something in the drinks, it might be the shock of dying. All of that's probably just an excuse for Liam. 

Liam who is turning to look at him, mischievous twinkle in his eyes as he softly kicks Theo's shin. 

"Are you jealous or something?" Liam asks, sly grin on his face. It snaps Theo right out of his thoughts. He'd been staring right at him. Good thing he wasn't drooling.  

"Jealous? Of you?" He scoffs. "You wish." 

Liam's grin spreads wider. "I didn't mean of me. I meant of them." He licks his lips. "Do you want me all to yourself, Raeken?" 

"Stop talking to me like we know each other so well." Theo gets off the bar chair he's been sitting on, wobbling on his legs. So what? He's never been drunk before. "Matter of fact, stop talking all together." 

"I can work with that," Liam says. His touch against Theo's arm feels near electric, hand sliding down until it's wrapped around his wrist. "Follow me." 

Theo does. Because he's dead and what else is he supposed to do when a pretty boy tells him to follow? He can have this, for fucks sake, he's allowed. 

Liam is on him the moment they slide back through the wall, pushing him against the opposite side of the alley, hands sliding up over his torso to grasp his jaw and tilt him forward. Their lips connect and it's unlike anything Theo's ever felt before. 

He gasps into it. How could he not? This is the craziest thing he's ever done and he's done a lot of crazy shit. He can feel Liam smiling against his mouth and all his jealousy dissipates. 

It doesn't matter who he complimented, or talked to, or helped. Because it's Theo that gets to have him now. All to himself, hidden between two towering buildings.

Liam hums as their lips move together. Their breaths mingle, the taste of beer and something smokey transferring. 

For someone that died when he was sixteen he sure as Hell can kiss. 

Theo can't help but groan into his mouth, pressing harder against him, until suddenly all the pressure is gone and he's left gulping in breaths with his head tilted back against the brick wall behind him. 

He feels like he's starving. There's a pathetic kind of need coursing through his veins. It's something he's never felt before, something that doesn't have anything to do with how many drinks he had. It settles low in his stomach, keeping him warm while Liam's hands spread out over his chest. 

"That enough of not talking for you?" Liam asks, moving closer until Theo can feel his hot breath against his neck. He presses a single kiss against his pulse. 

Theo swallows. "Think I need some more of that, uh, not talking."

Hello friends!

Hope this past weekend was a pleasant one for people, and if it wasn’t then I hope the week gets better. In that same vein, I wanted to give a heads-up that we are coming up on Big Bang season, and hopefully get people excited or interested in joining the @officialthiamlibrary event that will be running this summer.

What is a Big Bang you ask, well let me explain:

A Big Bang is a fandom event put on with the goal to create community through connections.

What connections does it foster? How does it work?

The event primarily consists of a writer and an artist of any different media (moodboard makers, photo editors, playlist makers, video editors, painters, sketch artists, etc) that are partnered for the duration of the event

Writers come up with an idea for a story/fic which are then submitted to the pool of artists who choose their favorites. Once pairs are sent out it's up to the writer and artist to communicate and over a couple of months the writers write and the artists create art using their media of choice for their chosen partner fic.

It sounds big and intimidating, but this is one of my fave fandom events of the year. I’ve participated in the Thiam one put on by the Offical Thiam Library the last two years, and honestly it’s so much fun. Hands down some of the most fun I’ve had. We’re finalizing details soon, and so I figured it’d be a good time to start putting the idea in peoples heads.

It’d be absolutely AWESOME if a bunch of people were to participate. The more, the merrier with this sort of thing.

Liam sits upright now, clearly recognising that devious shift in the chimera and it makes him wild. “Teddy?”

“Didn’t get my turn,” Theo hums, kicking his jeans aside.

Okay so, hey! When I said see you soon I didn’t exacly mean today, but yknow, i got excited and started writing and when I realized I had already finished it so… why not, huh ;)

i watched dead boy detectives this week and now i'm kinda obsessed with making it about thiam. so i present you the thiam dead boy detectives au plot bunnies in my head 🐰

there are different ways i imagined it. the first:

theo dies and is sent to hell. now, contrary to what happened to edwin, he very much deserved it. his hell in this au is similar to his canonical hell, so tara keeps haunting him and clawing his heart out of his chest and then it all starts again – for eternity. but he manages to escape! and he decides to spend his afterlife doing some good deeds so that he can maybe convince death not to send him there again if she ever catches him.

then he meets liam and keeps him company while he slowly dies after being beaten by his teammates. when liam wakes as a ghost, he wants to get revenge, but theo is afraid that's gonna get him sent to hell, and so feels compelled to guide him in a different direction. liam lets it go but decides to follow theo and solve ghost mysteries with him forever :) at first theo doesn't want him around (because vulnerability is a bitch) but liam is as stubborn as he's beautiful, so there's no escape <3

at some point theo will have to tell liam the whole truth about his past and how cruel he was, of course. liam is taken aback, and they have a fight and theo pushes him away in the worst way possible. but then liam is in danger and theo sacrifices himself for him and is dragged to hell, and liam still decides to risk everything to get him back!

alternative that mirrors the teen wolf canon:

liam is a ghost that works together with scott, stiles and the others in the dead boy detectives agency (it was only scott and stiles at first, then other people joined, both dead and alive). they meet theo on a case, but he manipulates liam to obtain something (he could be a witch in this, or an evil ghost, or another type of creature).

at some point, he gets killed (or just caught by death) and sent to hell. years later, when the detectives have to go to hell to retrieve something or someone, liam meets theo down there. theo decides to help him because he feels guilty about everything he's done in the past, and in the end liam can't leave him behind, so he drags him all the way back to earth.

theo has a lot of magical knowledge and decides to use it to help the others solve all their cases, even though they don't trust him. liam doesn't either, not entirely, but he's the only one who saw theo in the depths of hell and is sure that the boy would do anything to keep himself out of there.

theo of course develops a strong sense of loyalty and devotion towards liam, just like in canon <3 and in the end, maybe there's a moment where liam could finally move forward to heaven, but decides to stay behind with theo <3
