he smells like cigarettes and green tea, with a hint of sweetness and safety. he tastes like chocolate and mint, with a hint of bitterness and longing. he looks like a piece of art, with a hint of imperfection and insecurity.

isaiah scratched his head in uncertainty as he looked down at the food in front of him. he had decided to attempt to prepare a meal for himself in hopes of eating dinner at seven, but from the outcome of it all, he wasn’t so sure that was going to be possible now. despite all isaiah had learned in the year he had lived alone, he still had trouble with cooking dinner for himself. while at first he thought he had followed the directions perfectly, it appeared he had still done something wrong as the food didn’t look like it was supposed to. so with the internet no longer being much help, isaiah decided that it was best if he asked one of his neighbors for advice as he promised he would stop eating out all the time. leaving his apartment, he knocked on the neighbor’s door and was met with their face soon after. “hey, i’m sorry to bother you, but i really need your help with something,” he apologized. “you busy right now?”

hello! hello! i’m haiz and i’m super excited to be here. so this is my little isaiah and under the read more are some things about him.
isaiah’s only been living at hazelwood for a year now. he was born and raised in the upper east side of manhattan and comes from an extremely wealthy family, but decided to try living on his own without the help of his parents when he turned twenty. he thought it would be an interesting experience to interact with people outside of his social class and live the way that they do. while it hasn’t been easy for him as he’s been used to having lots of money and things done for him by others, isaiah has learned a lot in the year he’s been living on his own and is proud that he’s made it this far.
at the age of nine, isaiah discovered that he was slowly losing his hearing and would one day become deaf. so in order to make the transition a little easier for him, he learned to speak american sign language and preserve his speaking abilities so he would be able to communicate with both deaf and hearing people. he discovered Deaf culture a few years later, which also helped him cope with the changes, and for several years now has culturally identified as Deaf (with a capital ‘D’) despite being clinically hard of hearing.
most people mistaken him for being the shy and quiet type because he’s Deaf, but isaiah’s not like that at all. in actuality, he’s super outgoing and friendly and will socialize with just about anyone regardless of their hearing level. he’s a pretty chill dude who loves to have a good time and is down for anything that sounds fun, sometimes even if it’s dangerous.
he’s attending college at nyu for business and computer programming. although he isn’t sure if computer programming will get him anywhere in his future, he still enjoys learning it.
he’s probably the most well-known person out of anyone in the building since he likes to blare his music (usually anything from the 20s and onward) at any chance he gets. yes, he’s that kind of neighbor, but he doesn’t do it intentionally to piss anyone off as he’s Deaf and can only hear the music if it’s super loud. he’s not a dick though, and makes sure not to do this in the early morning or too late at night.
he has a tendency to be very blunt and say the first thing that comes to his mind. while this is common and not considered rude in the deaf community, isaiah knows that it is in the hearing one and apologizes if he says something hurtful during the times he forgets.
when he isn’t in school or hanging with his friends, isaiah bartends at a popular club in manhattan in order to pay rent and anything else he needs. while he was used to being on the opposite side of the bar before, he really enjoys working behind it and chatting with the people he encounters. it also doesn’t hurt that he gets to listen to some really good music on the job too.
isaiah doesn’t care for labels, especially when it comes to his sexuality, and hasn’t bothered trying to find one either. he doesn’t really give a shit if someone’s a man, a woman, or non-binary because he’ll still fuck them either way. it’s all ‘the more the merrier’ to him.
