It's been a while!

Irl stuff (moving again, starting some new hobbies, learning a new language, keeping up with irl friends, and some big changes in my job) has once again upturned my life. I've also been moving into doing separate, more professional fiction and nonfiction writing ( I got an article published! :D ) which is why I haven't been very active across blogs for a while.

I still really enjoy revisiting my silly little guys and building this little unique world of mine and I do feel like there's more to explore and more stories to tell in the future but I realize now forcing myself to meet these quotas I put on myself and then getting upset with myself when I didn't meet them was not a good way to go about this hobby.

I'll try and be on again in the future when the right inspiration strikes, probably sooner rather than later. My discord is available to mutuals if you'd like to stay connected in the meantime :)

Thinking once again about how canine motifs keep showing up in Nico's characterization and how I can't decide on the definitive one because they all fit her:

The she-wolf, the symbol of Rome itself, a protector of the weak. A caregiver with sharp teeth. Something soft and deadly all at once.

The Canaan dog of the Levant, a wolf-like sheepdog used by the Judeans and Galileans in the times of Jesus to guard their flocks. A creature loyal to those it trusts, vocal and unrelenting. Clever, confident, and territorial.

The red fox, symbol of cunning. A patient creature that is able to manipulate and maneuver around its foes to get what it wants. Extremely intelligent and shrewd, preferring to use wit instead of force, preferring to strike in the dark and out of sight

Not me playing with the idea of Nico being a direct descendant of St. Longinus, the centurion who lanced Christ on the cross, through Ferro.

Not me thinking of how the legend goes that Longinus was cured of severe cataracts after some of the Christ's blood spattered into his eyes and playing with the idea that his descendants tend to have extremely good eyesight despite their age and ailments (e.g. Ferro has never had to get glasses despite being in his late 50's) but they're not sure why

I’m kinda glad I didn’t make Nico the reincarnation/direct descendant of a major saint/Biblical figure like I originally planned but I do still headcanon she does have a Roman ancestor who was also present in Jerusalem at the time of the crucifixion
