Okay hot take: Hunter doesn’t have dark circles under his eyes because of lack of sleep. He has dark circles under his eyes because of abuse. Trauma can seriously dysregulate your body and autonomic functions. Basically your internal metronome gets all messed up. Excessive tiredness even after a full sleep is a common sign. Hunter could sleep as long as he wanted, but those dark circles wouldn’t go away because he doesn’t need sleep, he needs his body to feel safe.

Thanks to his constant, high strung anxiety, Hunter gets those sudden, involuntary chills regardless if he’s actually cold or not. Sometimes it’s a constant shivering that lasts for an extended period of time, but most instances it’s a single, abrupt, and full body shudder. He does his best to suppress them when he’s around others, though. How successful he is with that varies.

Also, can we take a moment to think of how much this boy had to physically endure at a young age? Like, as someone living in the demon realm with no magic, he’d have to go through so much physical training to build up his strength. Even if Belos did give him his staff of artificial magic, what of before then? And clearly he’d need to be able to still be a force to be reckoned with if he didn’t have access to his staff. We already saw how he was able to parkour his way up the side of a building to get to Luz. That sort of strength and skill takes awhile to build up, and something Hunter would need to maintain, too…. While magic can accomplish a number of things and perform astonishing feats, there are still limitations that come with it. To permanently change the form of another is an incredibly difficult task to accomplish even for the most powerful of witches. Certain spells and potions can rearrange or alter things for a time, but the effects are always temporary, unable to constantly maintain the new form it’s been placed in. The only thing that can ever get close to making permanent physical changes are curses, but those are far too dangerous and dip too much into the darker elements of wild magic for anyone to ever think of studying it or messing with.

Therein lies the issue for Hunter. As a trans man, in order to sustain the appearance he desires and alleviate his gender dysphoria, he is in need of a potion. The effects itself are temporary and do wear off after a few days, so it’s a potion he has to take frequently. But, even then the effects themselves are limited.

It’s able to deepen his voice and help give him more of a masculine build; broad shoulders, sharp jaw and features, and flat chest. Yet, that is the extent of the potions abilities.

That said, while all of that is generally temporary, there are some things that are somewhat permanent if it’s used for a long enough period of time. So his vocal chords have been permanently altered as has his general build, but a good chunk of that is mainly thanks to the fact that he’d began taking the potion at a rather young age. So, his body naturally began to grow and develop in that direction. However, these changes aren’t quite as pronounced without the use of the potion, and were he to stop taking it, once it wore off, his voice wouldn’t be as deep, his build not quite the same in comparison. This is a very rare thing to happen, but it has occurred on more than one occasion, and why, even if they are so rarely used, he keeps a few binders with him.

Rapid fire Luca AU headcanons, lets gooooo

While they’ve lived in Portorosso for the last 25-30 years, compared to your average human adult, Raine is rather academically uneducated. While they aren’t dumb or willfully ignorant by any means, there are a number of human subjects most often taught in schools that they simply never learned. Higher forms of math, history, and many of the sciences are all things Raine never learned. That isn’t to say they’ve never tried to learn or read up on things, either, but it’s more so a case of ‘they don’t know what they don’t know’.

Having lived primarily as a human for majority of their life, they’ve developed a number of habits that helped to avoid getting wet and exposing themself as a sea monster. Of course, there have been some close calls throughout the years, but they’ve managed to learn and adapt from those mistakes. That said, even after Luca and Alberto come to Portorosso and help open the door for sea monsters to be openly present in town, old habits die hard. Raine isn’t at all troubled at being outed as a sea monster now – it’s actually something of a relief to them, really – but, it’s still something they have to get used to as well. After so many years of avoiding water while in public, they may still try to ‘hide’ as a first instinct.

Raine’s music shop is as much a store as it is something of a hang out for their customers. With record players, radios, and even a few of their instruments available to play and use, so long as they aren’t broken or treated poorly, anyone is able to use them. The resulting chaos of conflicting noises can be a bit of an ear bleeder on busy days, but for the most post it manages to work. They also keep a bunch of snacks and goodies for the town’s kids that might hang around to listen to the radio or play a few of their favorite albums.

Believing themself to have been the only sea monster in town, while liked by many people in Portorosso, Raine never got particularly close to anyone. Even though they loved the town and the people who lived there, they were well aware of the dangers that could come with revealing what they really were to others. So, even with the few ‘friends’ they have, there’s always something of a wall that had kept them at an odd distance from others. Part of the reason the need to hide no longer being present is such a relief to them. They don’t have to keep others at such a distance any more.

Well, you’re not wrong. Raine is more or less a bit of a switch, buuuut they definitely fall into being the bottom in most cases. They’re very much someone who might tease and initiate things with their partner to get them going before completely letting them take the lead. Of course, there are the few exceptions to this, and if they’re in the right mood, they might not relinquish that power quite so easily.

Although it’s nothing particularly intensive, Raine 100% does some sort of physical workout as part of their morning routine. Nothing long or incredibly strenuous on themself, but enough to keep up their physical health and maintain their strength. My evidence for this? Eda is clearly the taller of the two, and Raine was able to not only lift and hold her in their arms for a time, but also balance them both in a god damn tree. That’s not something easy to do if you don’t have the muscle for it.

Yknow. Even as Head Bard, Raine probably wouldn’t have been taken as seriously as they ought to be. We’ve already seen how illusion magic is viewed, and I think it’s safe to say bard magic would only be a step or two above that. Thought of as a ‘weaker’ magic. And, between that and their stage fright, Raine… probably would have been severely underestimated by most all the other coven heads.

I was just reminded of this precious children’s song I used to listen to, and just. Raine would absolutely play it and other children’s songs to small kids. The only audience they never get anxious in front of. They aren’t necessarily the best singer, but for the sake of the song they’d do their best and try to encourage the kids to sing with them.

As I was talking with a friend about their situation regarding climbing the ranks of the Bard Coven until they reached that point where they had to hunt down wild witches themself, I realized that their supposed kill count wouldn’t be entirely accurate. When they finally get a grasp on how to maneuver through things, Raine would have been able to spare quite a few of their would-be victims. Faking their death and helping them hide away from the cities of the Isles where Belos had that firmer grip of authority. These would have usually involved solo missions or instances where they could get the other alone to let them escape.

But, this couldn’t always be the case, and there were more times where they were backed into a corner they couldn’t get out of.
