𝐓𝐇𝐄 𝐒𝐎𝐍𝐆 𝐃𝐑𝐎𝐖𝐍𝐈𝐍𝐆 𝐎𝐔𝐓 𝐓𝐇𝐄 𝐎𝐓𝐇𝐄𝐑 𝐒𝐎𝐔𝐍𝐃𝐒––
at Almost Sweet is doing nothing for Pax’s headache. a couple of stress lines ruin what could be considered a flawless complexion, as he rifles through a box of records he doesn’t really care for. he didn’t exactly love his job, but the music in question would subtly remind him of the fact that he could be doing better in the occupational area of his life… and while he’s used to a pair of headphones over his ears, his comment snaps him from his own inner monologues–  “I’m in dire need of an aspirin–” once again, he’s speaking of the music inducing the headache. “Or if I’m lucky, a lobotomy.” these are, of course statements a worker in said establishment should not be speaking, and yet he continues with his complaints, “Is it 6 p.m. yet?”

— Ashley is poker-faced towards her potential test subject as she procures a checkered, stainless steel thermos from the depths of her tote bag. The thermos lid doubled as a cup, a cartoon rabbit design on its flat end. “I have something stronger than aspirin,” she says. “If you hate Butter as much as I do, take a sip of this. Spiked lemonade gets me through my morning shift.” Her latest, frenetically brewed potion wouldn’t be earning her any Michelin stars. The lemonade was spiked with a tonic with the core ingredients of leaves of sneezewart, the gills of a falsk kantarell mushroom, eye of newt, chicken feet, and hyacinths. Not the most appealing thing in the world  — hence her keeping quiet on what exactly she’d spiked the lemonade with. “Before your manager sees,” she urges.

INTRO // KRISTOPHER DROSSELMEYER
— Kris Drosselmeyer is a struggling inventor who manages Falling Star Toys, a family-owned business that has seen better days. He wants to fulfill his mother’s dying wish and restore the shop to its former glory, thereby reintroducing wonder and magic to a new generation. But when the harsh realities of life give him burnout, he struggles to reconnect with his curiosity and imagination  — the very traits that once made him the perfect person to revive the store. (P.S. If he steps on one more loose Shopkin, heads will roll.)
Tumblr media
THE KRIS OF YESTERYEAR
🕰️ To understand the young mischief-maker, you needn’t look further than his childhood desk: handcrafted figurines, a coffee tin full of leftover cogs and gears, a three-headed dog he’s sculpted out of polymer clay. The Store will be his someday, if he likes, and his mom says that she thinks he’ll be great at it. She doesn’t know that the (failing) report card she’s been waiting to read is hidden inside his desk drawer, submerged underneath travel brochures and clippings from National Geographic.
🕰️ Kris likes to fly paper airplanes out of town bounds and swears they vanish into thin air. (As an adult, of course, he’d chalk it all up to an overactive imagination. But at the time, he couldn’t help the feeling that he must’ve seen real magic.)
🕰️ His family would support him no matter what career he chooses, but he feels an obligation to the family toy shop. It’s been run by Drosselmeyers for over seventy years. Yeah, no pressure in knowing it’ll be his fault if he breaks a nearly century year-old chain. 🙄 Tethered by responsibility, he comes to terms with a future within Woodvale.
🕰️ If he’s not actively getting into trouble, then he’s probably being yanked home by the ears for causing trouble. Funneling all that energy into creating things — playing Victor Frankenstein, fusing an amalgam of clock parts and toy scraps discarded by his grandfather — keeps him from wrecking too much havoc.
🕰️ Kris is a bright light of wonder and imagination, a boy who makes up for his faults from an earnest desire to bring delight to others. He makes up the best games, he knows the best places to play, and he likes to share his creations with others.
🕰️ He’s around twelve when his mother suddenly and unexpectedly passes. He allows his incredible imagination to collect dust, but will stay in Woodvale to secure his mother’s dreams of the store remaining family owned. His grandfather isn’t going to be around forever, nor is he in any condition to be running the books, fixing up the building, or keeping up with the times. It’s time for Kris to step in.
THE KRIS OF TODAY
Tumblr media Tumblr media
🕰️ SO, he’s basically Stu Pickles now.
🕰️ His grandfather had been managing the shop prior, having been extremely reluctant to let Kris do anything but mop the floors. Bookkeeping was a mess, the building needed work, and Falling Star Toys was truly a shell of its former self.
🕰️ Once Kris fully took over a few years ago, the locals have noticed some life SLOWLY returning to the shop. Kris is currently just the store’s manager. (The shop is currently in his grandfather’s name, and they’re desperate to turn a profit so they won’t have to sell the building to the property-hungry CEOs in town. While it’s clear there’s plenty of heart being put into the place, it’s a constant fight to keep the shop running.)
🕰️ Occasionally, he’ll feel a spark to invent something that’s probably too dangerous to sell to children and/or catches on fire LMAO. His creative hobbies include repairing antique clocks, wood carving, and just vibing at a pottery wheel.
🕰️ He's a pretty competent craftsman when he has the energy for it? BUT it turns out that energy is quite the luxury after a long, headache-inducing day of telling Karen she cannot return the empty packaging of a Shopkins toy bought two years ago without a receipt.
🕰️ His house is a total bachelor pad; no curtains, a refrigerator stocked with a whopping two eggs & a can of beer, the scorched rug from the last invention to burst into flames, and a trail of socks as far as the eye can see.
🕰️ Kris DOES love kids though, but the fact that he’s turned forty-four and is still without a family of his own? He thinks he’s allowed himself to be so consumed by the store, that he’s allowed his chances at fatherhood to slip through his fingers.
🕰️ Even if life seems to have worn him down a touch, he’s still the same Kris deep down: a kind, imaginative individual who’s still a really big kid at heart. It might take some time, but he can regain the ability to see the wonder in everything.
🕰️ He doesn’t take things personally? He cares deeply & intensely for a small number of important things he can count on one hand, so he has a core morality about it. But for everything else he doesn’t really give a 💩!!! Generally, Kris is playful, a tease, and faces even the most agitating of situations with a blasé sense of humor.
🕰️ Sometimes his creations delight, other times they malfunction and terrify. This plays off Herr Drosselmeyer’s ambiguity in different productions of The Nutcracker, where he’s either a figure of fun, terror, or a little bit of both!
🕰️ Also in accordance to the original story, there’s a slight air of mystery about him. He doesn’t voluntarily share much information, nor will he supply details unless you keep digging. The sounds of power tools coming from his basement also does not do him much favors with his neighbors in the South part of town LOL.
THE POWERS
🕰️ He’s skeptical about the “powers” people have been discussing around town? His have only activated while he’s dreaming, the effects of his object animation disappearing once he wakes. It really only works when he’s able to connect with the ol’ Drosselmeyer imagination & sense of wonder, which is harder to achieve in the real world than in the land of make believe.
Object Animation: User can create, shape and manipulate any sort of inanimate objects, products/finished goods, ie. physical objects that have been manufactured from either natural or artificial materials
🕰️ He can’t create objects from nothing & can only control as much as he can suspend his disbelief for. Since he hasn’t really “realized” or used his ability yet, I was hoping to explore it (and it’s many weaknesses & downfalls that will lead to Silly HijinksTM throughout the RP!) I’m thinking that grief can either halt his power or heighten it, depending on the context!
AND YEAH!!! That’s all I have for now! Ashley & Linus’ intros are coming soon~!!! :3

𝐓𝐇𝐄 𝐒𝐎𝐔𝐍𝐃𝐒 𝐎𝐅 𝐓𝐇𝐄 𝐒𝐓𝐑𝐈𝐊𝐄𝐎𝐔𝐓 𝐋𝐀𝐍𝐄𝐒–
at Lucky Strike Bowling aren’t nearly as good as the nachos that have been devoured within the past couple of minutes. honestly the sounds pins knocking into each other is kind of knocking on his nerves. why did he agree to this again? the plate– the real subject of his attention, hardly had any cheese left and despite how fast he’s eaten the snack– he’s ready for another round. he’s waving down an attendant server lady to fulfill this request. much to the other’s misfortune, he’s the worst bowling partner, “I don’t know, maybe you should just bowl for me instead, I kinda just wanna eat nachos now…” he offers a shrug as the thunderous sound of another strike fills the air. “It’s not like I’m any good anyways–” of course he wasn’t even trying to begin with… “Oh hey, before I forget maybe we should order a pizza too?”

— “I watched hundreds  — no, dozens of professional bowling videos on YouTube,” he said. “If there’s one thing I’ve learned: it’s all in the wrist.” Linus hadn’t bowled since low-rise jeans were in fashion, so he was as far from a professional bowler as one could get. With the focused gaze of a champion, he picked up his bowling ball and sauntered towards the foul line. There was no doubt in his mind that he would ace this shot. “Once the owners get a load of this, they’ll give you that pizza for free,” he said. The dark-haired straightened his back, squared his shoulders, and indulged in the glow of his own confidence. He released the ball. It immediately curved into the gutter. “Maybe it wasn’t the wrist,” he said. “You know, in college I was on the hockey team.”

it’s  a  warm  summer  night,  the  man  situated  in  his  usual  spot  at  his  favorite  bar  on  main  street.  it’s  late  enough  that  he’s  already  a  few  drinks  in,  the  desire  to  chat  up  the  patron  to  his  right  washing  over  him.  he  rests  an  arm  on  the  counter,  turning  to  face  them  with  a  raised  brow.  “  you  look  like  you’ve  had  a  long  day,  ”  eric  starts,  and  perhaps  he’s  just  looking  into  it  through  the  wrong  lens,  but  he  thinks  their  expression  tells  enough  of  a  story  that  he  isn’t  wrong  to  make  the  assumption.  “  can  i  buy  you  a  drink  ?  ”

— Mixology was a form of potions brewing, wasn’t it? Ashley’s focused on the bartender as if observing their craft could inspire her own. The night of ingredients hunting had been to no avail, but that was unsurprising. She never knew what the ingredients for her potions were, nor what the final product actually did until finally stumbling upon them. With her doe-eyed gaze distrusting and her subdued, monotonous voice soft as the curtain fall of dusk, she leaned forward. “Walk me through what happens if I say yes,” she said. “You have my blessing if I like your answer.”

there was a pastel green ice cream cone in cass’s hands, the treat dripping onto the pale white paper wrapped around it. she brought the cone to her lips and bit into it.
“ you know I haven’t even eaten ice cream like this that often until I realized how much people hated and honestly their discomfort fuels me.”

— “Yeah, I don’t get the youth,” he sighed. Kris scooped a spoonful of salted caramel ice cream straight out of the container. When you worked retail, there were days where buying a full pint out of the freezer section was the only barrier between you and committing arson. “Do you even like to eat it that way?” he said, stifling a yawn. “It all comes out the same in the end anyway.”
